Recover saved games - Please help!!!

    Hi all,

Sadly i've reinstalled my windows while i was playing Bioshock 2 and know i can't load my saved games.
I've made a backup of the "Bioshock2\SaveGames" and after reinstalled the game i put that folder in the old place but now when i start the game i doesn't show any savedgame.
I'm using a offline profile with the same name (99.9% sure).

Please help i was already at "Fontaine Futuristics".

Thanks in advance (sorry for my bad english).

Save files are linked to your GFWL profile.
On your harddrive there will be an encrypted file which is linked to your save file. This is found in the GFWL folder.

I've just done this exact same thing. Surely there is a tool to migrate GFWL offline saves to 'other' offline accounts?!

I say 'other' based, presumably, on GUID since the 'old' offline account and 'new' offline accounts have the same usernames!

Please provide a tool to facilitate this kind of migration.

Not sure about that. I think it's something that the GFWL team would have to make.

I've just returned from posting on the GFWL forum. Hopefully this should not be hard to achieve. I'll report back with any progress.

I can see that this is more of a GFWL issue than a 2K one but still... bad call 2K. To have such a nice game, that has obviously had a lot of time and effort put into it, be ruined by some third party bolt-on is such a waste. Essentially 2K has shot itself in the foot but the really sad thing is the people who spent the time on the game design probably had nothing at all to do with the whole GFWL implementation.

You have my sympathies Mr Games Developer.

Well my problem is that i've formated my C: partition and i didn't keep the GFWL folder.
I just have the bioshock2/savegames folder with my saves...

I've reinstalled my bioshock2 game and installed the GFWL using the same offline profile but when i start the game it doesn't show any savedgames.

I've put my savegames folder in the same place that the game keeps the savegames.

    Please help

If you only backed up the save folder then you have only backed up half of the saves and they are now useless

Would it be possible to get a sticky or something in support FAQs that tells people the exact requirements for backing up saves?

People who have not had to deal with GFWL before have no idea what to do.

Better to change the rediculousness that is a GFWL - save game system. I mean AFAIK the GFWL data you need to keep is in a hidden folder(!!!!!).

Why on earth does a save game need to be allocated to a GFWL account?! I understand the DLC, the patches and the multiplayer - online stuff but a save game just seems silly.

I'm almost certain that could be patched out of the game code. BS2 obviously saves its games to its own folder anyway, they're just not able to be accessed.

To say that half the save has been lost by not backing up the GFWL folder is innaccurate; The entire savegame file is in the bioshock save game folder. Windows live just doesn't allow the game to access them unless your account's GUID matches the files.

Obviously the flaw here is in GFWL but I imagine the game can easilly be modified to work around the issue entirely.

I've posted a short guide on what you need to do to successfully back up your Games for Windows Live (GFWL/XLive) offline profile. You will need to have all of the data relevant to the backup or you will not be able to restore your offline profile in the event you need to re-install Windows.

    Guide: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=688347

Hope it helps -- for those of you without all of the necessary files in your backup, the cold hard truth is that you have most likely lost your saved game progress and will need to start over (this applies to offline GFWL profiles only).
