Ancient Egyptian Race in the game

I'm Argentine of North African ancestry and I was extremely offended that in Civilization Revolution Cleopatra was portrayed as Sub-Saharan African (Black). Would Shaka Zulu be portrayed as Nordic? Of course NOT! Ancient Egyptians were the same as their neighbors the Berbers and Israelites which were Semitic Caucasoid people. I think Civilization V should accurately depict Ancient Egyptians as a Berber people.

One problem, Cleopatra VII was from foreign dynasty, she was not Egyptian, and not from Ancient Egypt. She was Macedonian or Greek (do not sure about nationality of Ptolemy Soter).
I think the best looking for her is Mediterranean, or like Fayum people.

So if she is Greek/Macedonian why is she being depicted as Nubian in Civilization Revolution?

So if its just a game why not depict Shaka Zula as Swedish or Caesar as Chinese?

Hold your horses, hitman. Don't be sounding all logical and stuff up in this piece. We support only unfounded disapproval of irrelevant aspects of this game in this thread.

Because creators liked to present unhistorical looking of characters, like in Civ 4 they did with Catherine the Great (ahoy pirates!) and many times with Tlatoani Montezuma II (wild savage and northern Indian, what a shame!)? To not write about Alexander the Great, who was blonde and looks like in historical images only in Civ 1 if I am correct or about Civ 3 Genghis Khan... Very good question.

So you believe it is alright to have my people's history stolen from us? That is quite nice of you!

I don't believe this is the reason. There is a movement amongst African Americans in the United States to steal our North African history from us. I believe this has affected their decision to do this.

Yes, why not? No one has said anything against that... Or maybe they could just depict him as he was in the game?

As these are games, I have to admit that I care more about gameplay elements than how tanned Cleopatra is.

It's a computer game not a textbook. People play it to have fun.

More than that, the game developers are under no obligation to provide historically accurate information.

    cashew

i think and i might be wrong

but sid meir has re-written history!!

its a game if they wanted historical accuracy to be portrayed in the game then only certain civilisation would be able to discover certain technologies etc

its not meant to be an educational means. if people want to know who cleopatra, gengis and mahatma ghandi are then you can go and do the research.

surely if they wanted to give historical accuracy on each nation/race's most powerful leaders then the germans would've had hitler?

Clearly you DO NOT understand at all. I'm pointing out that they are placating the theft of North African history which is a tender issue amongst North Africans. "non-white" ????? North Africans were the first white people bud. Go do some research on the Berbers, Egyptians, and Israelites.

Yah! I can't believe they are doing this! For too long the white man has been kept down by the black man!

As a white person, we need to stand up and fight our black oppressors. Let us join hands and form a million man march to Washington and tell that black tyrant that we, the white folk of America, will no longer tolerate the centuries of white servitude!

    POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

okay I think she should look like a mixture of Greek and Egyptian, which I probably think she was. Yes she is from of Ptolomaius descent, and yes the faraos intermarried, but only when possible.

However which would you prefer. A Sid Meier spends a lot of time getting it just right with every civ

or B that he focuses primarily on content?

Besides, what is a Civilization anyway? It's not really a salon fait ekspression anymore. Should Sid then drop the franchise?

It's never going to be perfect, Sid however, is the best there is at it

I apologize in advance for grammar and spelling errors as I'm not a native writer

Threads like this demanding political correctness out of a game drive me nuts.

I remember when they included religions in Civilization 4, the developers had to write a disclaimer about how they weren't taking sides in the religious debate by adding them as a gameplay aspect. Such a waste of time to appease a few tools.

In my opinion, allow the developers their artistic license.. they will take it anyway whether you like it or not. If you want to spread the "truth", do your research, write your thesis and post in on Wikipedia.

I agree with you 100%, TBS.
Next we're going to hear complaints that a civ leader was wearing clothing from the wrong decade that isn't historically accurate.
