Thread: I might have doubts but I am still getting it.

I might have doubts but I am still getting it.

I was blown away at how mediocre quake 4 was from a adventure class FPS to a mindless gun and gun shadow of itself it was the last new game I have preorder or bought at full retail ,I generally wait till reality sets in and the game drops to tis real value usually 10-30$ I got prey collectors ed for 30 the game itself was not great but not bad either.

I been waiting for Bioshock since I heard abotu it a couple years ago already have 50 pined away even tho I fear it will suffer from "contemporary" design small level design no secrets or niches(Q4,D3) odd weapon balances with watered down "realistic" design (Q4,D3,HL2,DX2).

From what I have seen this seems to have more care and effort place into it than Duse ex 2 which was a watered down for consoles mess you want to make games for consoles fine but don't destroy a games complexity for it you might can sale "contemporary" games to the shallow masses but even they will wake up one day mostly when they hit 28-30 :P,uhg mass marketing to tweens(12-20soemthing) is killing "media" I am really gettign tired of shallow in name only game/movie of the month BS..

Meh I am rambling sorry sorry

I do have some questions tho sorry the rant'o'meter was up :X
this game is the standard 5-8 hour FPS type right, or is it the expanded FPS type like dues ex and such 8-15 hour?

Since devs cant program control schemes for crap anymore I tend to avoid FPSs on consoles I so hate the limited shortsighted cookie cutter schemes without button mapping and other "normal" options I cant enjoy them at all,Halos odd fine dead center aim is one of the most annoying aim systems I have every tried to play.

Besides the "control issues" I have with some games button mapping should be a basic option now adays let people swap alaog sticks and program out the best way for them to play a game I know 70% of gamers will ignore it but I am Dysgraphia and begin learning disabled with a mis brain is so fun when you find a game that can not swap analog sticks or buttons, every one dose not play the same way devs have forgotten that...

Bah I rambled more than I wanted to, I am not worried abotu getting Bioshock to work on my comp as long as it can run on XP/DX9 I will be happy I wont be touching vista for 3+ years I will get a 360 and a nice keyboard and mouse converter for it I have the Max shooter for the PS2 and Xbox its a nice device a bit limited in key customization (only uses 12 keys and you can onyl swap in between those) but it works great enoguh for me to enjoy halo 2.

I don't see why MS doesn't just make a KB&M game pad for the 360 and sale it for 80 I'd be happy to buy it just have some control over the button placement and sensitivity since LIVE divides people by skill there wont be any more noob bashing than there already is.

In final I hope BIoshock is the best of what can be made today at least be worth 80% of tis full retail price, dose anyone know when a demo is coming out?

I'd like to play the demo before I go off and preorder it...

Oh if this gets moved or lock or deleted can someone tell em why? i try and stay inline as best as I can to each forum I join since I can be hard to understand sometiems ,I do not know if its the grammar of that post or the subject matter as I said I am learning disabled..and I am also odd :X

ah well heres hoping Bioshock breaks some records..it'd be nice to see a worthy game sale and not the mindless trend games that hit the bargain bin after a week...

    Welcome to the forum Zippy
We are still trying to persuade the awfully nice people at Irrational to give us a demo, perhaps you would care to vote on one of the other threads named Petition.
    Dont apologise for being odd!

I have to I am old (32 last I checked) and odd (I like anime over normal tv) and I am very very very fickle about video games I loath the contemporary themes of quantity over quality and name branding/in name only to push sales shcemes.

Because I am not a normal shepple I have found games, music and movies not made for me but for the tweens who have more moeny than brains....altho I need new bwains too :X

yes yes give mew a demo and a preorder you should get :X

First of all, welcome to the forum.
    Read this first

I take it you haven't been keeping up with any of the news on Bioshock at all, just judging from this. So I'll take the rest of your post in strides.
Keep in mind this is Irrational Games developing here. They don't disappoint, especially when it comes to hidden nooks and crannies and unique and innovative systems for things like weapons.

Answer, from the creator of the game:

Don't quote me, because I barely know anything about consoles, but I would think a standard USB mouse/keyboard combo can be rigged to work on a 360.

    I don't think there's going to be a demo.

It may or may not be moved to the Questions for the Team section. We'll see.

Yo! Welcome! Your not the only one who enjoys his anime over regular T.V (cept for stuff like Futurama), . Although I have no qualms with controls for consoles I can see how people that primarily played PC would.

I really wouldn't worry about Bioshock though, Irrational is a very excellent developer, but hopefully they will release a demo so people can test it out.

At least we know what Bioshocks game type is over at the Fallout 3 forums we are waiting for them to drop the bomb is it going to be a FO game or a TES spin off...altho I would be interested in a TES FO if location damage is in it but meh I enjoy FPS type games altho if its a FO based game with FO skill sets not some D20 rip off can you say insta preorder :X

I wonder when they will get done with DNK forever Duke and Blood are the only 2 insanely fun and evil FPSs I have played and really nothing have been made like I wonder if they can transit Duke into todays game.

Not to be disrespectful but I take creator interviews with a grain of salt to much PR spin and let downs from games past make me say "talk to the hand, show me the demo"

that said looking at the info available Bioshock is deep even if its smaller and less deeper than SS2 its still far above average.

Last I check you can rig a KB and mouse to the 360 but only games that use it will use it I could be wrong, XFPS has made a all out converter its cute but only has 3 or 4 presets I'd rather wait till something more configurable comes along.

I was going to get a 360 this year but MS has been dckign with the hardware so much I gave up....by next year it will have the new CPU/GPU so no more heating problems that will be worth it!

I love how time splitters handles it might be a simply B class FPS but even it has full config for controls and halo have a few presets and thats it...it makes me wonder what they are doign a flagship title should have more polish than that.

Darkwatch was not so bad let me swap analog sticks to my good thumb I generally shut off auto aim because it screws with my precepsion Halo has odd almost elitist controls loved it on the PC its a solid fun game but on the console its a pain and half.

I see a bad trend of devs sticky with quick and easy cookie cutter control schemes for most games thats not a issue but for a FPS its everything.

    witch
I always liked animation and anime more, normal TV always tried to hard to water stuff down with reality or focus to much on who's sleeping with who so I clung to the best of kids TV,dark water,Beast wars,Xyber 9,Fighting food ons(it might be 4 kids but tis insanely fun) Pizza cats some of the mid 90s to TV anime like DB/DBZ or Technoman before it was heavily censored was fun as well now adays its all heavily edited to be marketed to brain wash youths.

Even retail DVDs are suffering from over the top Americanizations ,dubing/domestic on a whole be it for games or anime has become more a marketing gimmick than anythign else...I pretty much cling to fan subs I'll take poor but direct translations/mis translations over with translation notes over pompous domestic subs that wont even try and sub the opening/endings.

no offense taken, i know what you mean...BUT the quote I posted wasn't from a PR interview...it was Kevin's own words from one of the *very* few posts he made on this forum. That was anything but a marketing ploy...

Ah well anythign coming from the pub or dev is "PR" and I tend to ignore it and go on the accumulation of what I have seen and heard.

Have they release some gameplay movies?
I need to drool over something :X

FF12 is keeping me somewhat satiated its rather annoying that the game has such a restricted feel to it its like the shops work on auto scaling or something altho the skill system is fugly you can't help but build overly generic charatcers the real time combat is not the problem the generic and meek skills/equipment is.

LP board is kind of a joke the Sphere grid might have been odd but it kept a character on their class skill path this is a mish mass of randomness oh how I miss true charatcers that had fun and diversive skills in combat FF4/FF6 how I miss you!

Been messing about with demos and stuff since I got DSL put in sat net was killing and dailup before it was hell >< Infernal is a rather simplistic 3rd person action shooter its simple and fun and ya the dialog/banter is so bad it adds to the whole exp, worth checking out if you can handle such a cheap game.

Another NEW game I tried is Alpha Prime this game was built as a classic FPS you have medium class level design much like HL2's there are nooks and hidden stuff, from the demo I'll go as far as to say it has better level design than HL2 definalty better than any pompous mainstream gun and run that most FPSs have become, I love the hacking tool it use's a visual OSD like Metroid prime very very neat you can opening doors with it and hack cam data lines, the down side for the game is 2 fold non upgradeable single fire weapons no retail box,its on cfor about 40$ us if you don't know uses a online protection installer to verify you have a legit copy...this kills me After experiencing HL2 on dailup I refuse to put up with anythign that requires the net to install or play if D2D gets it I'd be happy to sped 50 on it, D2D is worth every penny they do not use any cracked in a day consumer annoying DRM the price tho comes in a 10-25% mark up over retail ,I wish they would hook up with off shore devs and promote and sale more games.

    teh caffeine+zippy =incoherence ><
commas might be in there but I am unsure if paragraphs ramble on like that ><

before I forget I got pariah for 10$ its a hacked together older but very "contemporary" FPS I always wanted to try it 2 oe 3 things would have made the game rock ,hand grenades for you and the soldiers chasing you ,alt fire no excuse not to have it ,soldiers carry 1-3 weapons is it bad when the later enemies on Unreal 1 could pick up ,chance and carry different weapons..."static enemies" that carry 1 weapon and fire only 1 way are throwbacks to "2d" level design when you could not flank in different ways.

Speaking of 2D I miss the only super fun sprite based FPS large level designs with secrets and nooks ,Duke and Blood are the best of the classic style FPSs, Quake 2,Unreal,Dues ex,SS2,Turok 1-3 and Undying are other FPS's I was charmed by so long ago.

Theres lots of gameplay videos, head over onto the Rapture homepage, and you'll find a 14 minute developer demo, plus an astonishing Hunting the Big daddy video. I think its safe to believe the hype on this game, the results on screen speak for themselves.

its hard to believe when every one is sleeping with trend☺☺☺☺☺s but *L*
I got my doubts( and the Hdef interview and first trailer) but it dose look like a sweet game anyway you look at it.

my main concern is the size of it FEAR took my 4 or 5 hours to finish it was a nice game and all but 10 a hour is weak even tho I got it for 20 :X

Yeah, length is a concern for me too,I'm estimating around 10-12 hrs max, although I do play games fairly quickly. My time for FEAR was a little over 5 hours.
I think what will make BS so special is the amount of re-playability,its impossible to explore every option on offer just on one playthrough.
I know its easy to be cynical about over hyped games, but I've got every confidence in this one.

Mmm If I do preorder it I wont get it from EB or GS since they have "boycotted" used PC game sales I boycott them I guess best buy could be considered a first tear retailer...mmm

plus your usually wind up gettign a edit version on top of paying more..its like "be happy to pay more for less its happy anal carnage time" ><

    cooperate is disgusting....

Speaking of disgusting seen what they did to Shadowrun? :X
