Why can't Eleaor remove her sea slug?

"This is Eleanor Lamb speaking. It's been many years since my last Diary. Mother found a way to rehabilitate me psychologically, but she can't remove this... this thing inside my body. I look in the mirror, and I see a freak. I remember very little - just an artificial sense of peace and a compulsive hunger for ADAM. Doctor Alexander is trying to help me adjust. He's responsible for part of my condition, but he wants to make amends"

Why can't Sophia Lamb remove the sea slug from Eleanor's body? In the first bioshock Tenenbaum devised and formulated a plasmid to safely remove the slug without killing the host. Does Sophia not know of this?

Maybe it's to do with age? Even though Sofia got Eleanor back when she was still a little girl, presumably the plasmid for removal of the slug/ADAM hadn't been developed by Tenenbaum yet. By the time does, then maybe it's bonded too fully with Eleanor's body or once puberty has started it becomes impossible? Just a thought.

Maybe she doesn't want to remove the slug. Having the kick ass powers would come in handy :P

That would be handy but from the audio log she expresses feelings of disgust. Quote "this thing inside my body. I look in the mirror, and I see a freak".

Think about this; when you see Tenenbaum, she has several saved little ones with her. This means she has spliced herself with the 'savelittlesister tonic'.

And maybe, if she were to remove the slug, she would mutate like gil does, because the slug doesn't regenerate her or something.

That makes sense. Maybe Sophia Lamb doesn't want the slug removed so that Eleanor could retain her "genetic resistance" to the side effects of splicing. Eleanor might also know of the cure but never got the chance to obtain a sample.

what i find weird is if she still has the slug wouldn't she still look creepy like the other little sisters? like the only way the little sisters go back to looking like normal girls is the save sister tonic and obvious it hasn't been used on her but she looks as normal as a regular 18 year old

I could've sworn that the "Exorcism" tonic just breaks the mental conditioning on the Little Sisters; not removing the slug.

If I'm correct, the slug will die over time if it doesn't ingest any ADAM.

So it's quite possible that her mental conditioning was broken via Exorcism Plasmid, and we know that Sophia has been giving Eleanor insane amounts of ADAM to make her into the Utopian. So, because of this, her slug is still intact, and Sophia will have kept it alive no matter the cost.

I think I'm right in what I'm saying, but I'm not 100% sure.

It does'nt remove it, it just kills it.

    Errrm, I don't get it.

In BS1 it is quite clear the mental conditioning stays. This is why you go through the proving ground with a cured girl who still harvests ADAM like she is trained to, despite "exorcism." Mental conditioning is not touched.

Futhermore, the slugs produce ADAM, so I doubt they die without it. The "recycling" process is likely just speed up production and get more into the girl before she returns to the vent as possible (for obvious reasons, the more the better, more profit, etc.)

My interpretation, is that the "exorcism" does not remove the seaslug, otherwise it would be same reward as harvesting a whole one. So, I figure, it must simply break the bond between them. It's still there, they are simply no longer as symbiotic. The girl stops producing ADAM, and stops being immortal, and her physical symptoms stop.

ANYWAY, back to Eleanor, I cannot say I picked up this diary (yet), so maybe it's fairly old? Maybe, AFTER the recording, the slug was removed? This could be a "midway" point before they happen upon Tenenbaum's cure, or their own. It makes sense, because, if Gil is still helping, he is still sane. They probably haven't even moved onto Eleanor as the "utopian" experiment yet.

    But alas, I don't know.

I wouldn't mind a sea slug if I could shoot BEES out of my hands!

The Insect Swarm is my favorite plasmid too. Level 3 makes it too much fun to just kill a random splicer and wait for others to walk by and activate the hive bomb. Plus the way the splicers react to the bees is funny.
