Textures Don't Seem To Be Loading

I've fixed all the other issues with this game except for textures loading extremely slow or not at all. An example being in the first room of the game, the pictures are extremely blurry as well as the text on the wall due to the textures just don't seem to load. I'm not quite sure what the issue might be but I don't want to play through the game until this is fixed so I might enjoy the art and graphics throughout the game. Here are my relevant pc specs.

    XP Service Pack 3
    AMD Athlon 3500
    2GB DDR Ram
    256MB Nvidia 8600 GTS
Driver version. 196.21 (I believe it's the newest)

I'm quite sure it's not due to the specifications because my game runs well otherwise on medium to high settings and there is fairly little lag except for when large amounts of enemies appear. Any help on this issue would be appreciated. Something else I would like to add, the various menus and opening cutscene seemed to lag my computer so bad I ended up having to disable the backgrounds for them and disable the opening cutscene so here is another problem although it doesn't really bother me at the moment.

I've seen this issue brought up a couple of times. Try running the game in windowed mode to see if that helps.

If they aren't already, you could also try setting your textures to high. Try it even if you can't run the game comfortably at that setting just to see if it's an issue of textures streaming between medium and high settings.

Please also try switching on "Force Global Lighting" to see if it helps with the issue. Also make sure your resolution is the same as your desktop.

    From the readme file

    1.1 Minimum System Requirements
    -------------------------------
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP (SP2 or later) / Windows Vista / Windows 7
    Processor: AMD Athlon 64 (3800+ 2.4GHz)
    Intel Pentium 4 (530 3.0 GHz)
    RAM: 2 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 7800GT with 256 MB RAM or better
ATI Radeon X1900 with 256 MB RAM or better
    Hard Disc Space: 11 GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 9.0c compliant card

    1.2 Recommended System Requirements
    -----------------------------------
Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP (SP2 or later) / Windows Vista / Windows 7
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core (5200+ 2.6 GHz) or better
Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo (E6420 2.13 GHz) or better
    RAM: 3 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA 8800GT with 512 MB RAM or better
ATI Radeon HD4830 with 512 MB RAM or better
    Hard Disc: 11 GB
Sound Card: 100% DirectX 9.0c compliant card

Its clear to me that your system is right at the bottom end for this game. Your CPU is below minimum spec and you don't have enough memory on your card to use High textures either.

    XP Pro
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+
    2GB RAM
    512MB GeForce 9600 GT
    The drivers are the latest

I'm running the game on the highest settings and I seem to be having the same problem as the OP. The menu is fine and so are the opening cutscenes but the game itself looks like the textures don't want to load and it looks like the game is running on half the resolution it's set to (running it on 1280 x 768). Everything is all jaggy poorly loaded. I've tried running it on medium and low and doesn't really help anything.

I've tried both of the suggestions above. The Global Lighting doesn't do anything it seems and Windowed mode makes the game look better in the slightest possible of ways.

Here's hopin' someone has a miracle to help me out here cause I feel like I've tried everything. Haha.

I looked at your link and the first picture is basically how the whole game looks no matter how close I am. Plus the jaggies which make me wanna cry.

I tried both with high and medium textures and it didn't seem to work. It seems like sometimes the textures will load and other times they won't. I was playing very well last night with the textures loading with perhaps a few hitches including some splicers but it still ran very well. So the problem appears to be intermittent for reasons I am unsure. I did get textures to load in an area by switching to medium and back to high although I assume that is because the game loads the different quality textures when you switch the texture quality.

Edit: Well using that method the textures seem to be loading fine now after the first level. Although they load a bit slow at times it's to be expected with my hardware. In case you were wondering it is loading the high textures fine.

It's clear to me you know relatively little about computers. Try doing more than point out to me what I already know. I know pointing out the system requirements might make you look intelligent but it honestly makes you look like a smart ass. I built my computer a couple years ago and I know what it can and can't run. I believe I mentioned I can run the game fairly well on high. So Sleepy Ben please don't come into my topics again with your presumptuous know it all attitude. Thank you and good day.

    Hey Everyone!!!
I had the same problem as most of you where the textures took forever to load, looked like crap and just wasn't fun to play.
When I first installed the game everything looked fine, but than something happened (not a patch) which changed the textures so they were blurry, washed out, and didn't load properly.
I also had issues with picture tearing.

I was messing around last night and figured out what the issues are and how to resolve these if you have a Nvidia / Geforce video card.

Bioshock settings: everything set to the highest settings and vsync I disable or enable depending on my mood.

The settings I adjusted which resolved the issues are located in the NVidia Control Panel.

If you have issues with blurry textures, this is caused by having 'Texture Filtering - Anisotropic Sample Optimization' set to "ON". Make sure this is set to "OFF"

If you have issues with picture tearing this is caused by having 'Antialiasing - Transparency' set to either multisampling or supersampling. Turn this setting to "OFF"

Here is how my settings are under the nvidia control panel and everything is working and looking much better.

    [
    • I]Ambient Occlusion: On
    • Anisotropic filtering: Application-controlled
    • Antialiasing - Gamma correction: On
    • Antialiasing - Mode: Application-controlled
    • Antialiasing - Setting: Application-controlled
    • Antialiasing - Transparency: Off
    • Maximum pre-rendered frames: 0
    • Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration: Single display performance mode
    • Texture filtering - Anisotropic mip filtering optimization: Off
    • Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias: Clamp
    • Texture filtering - Quality: Quality
    • Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization: On
    • Threaded optimization: On
    • Triple buffering: On
    • Vertical sync: Use the 3D Application Setting[/I]

I hope this helps many of you out.
    Thanks!
