Patch Tied To Games For Windows

Ok this is REALLY STUPID. If you get the patch loaded with you games for windows userid and then Reinstall the game, you can't get the patch!!!!

The presence/absence of the patch is NOT based on what is on your computer, it's based on your games for windows userid. If you have downloaded the patch and then have to reinstall.... guess what? YOU CAN'T GET IT AGAIN BECAUSE YOUR GAMES FOR WINDOWS USERID SAYS THAT IT'S ALREADY ON.

THIS IS GETTING MORE AND MORE RIDICULOUS EVERY DAY. Please, please, please, if you bought this game with a credit card, please work with them to dispute payment for this game.

I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW STUPID IT IS THAT SOMEONE WOULD TIE THE PRESENCE/ABSENCE OF A PATCH TO YOUR GAMES FOR WINDOWS USERID RATHER THAN WHAT IS ACTUALLY ON YOUR HARD DRIVE.

THIS IS RIDICULOUS. GET THE PATCHES ON YOUR WEBSITE, 2K AND QUIT SENDING THEM DOWN THROUGH GAMES FOR WINDOWS.

    GEEZ. THIS WHOLE GAME STINKS.

    And Guess What?

You cannot sign up for a new games for windows userid. It's broken. You get an error when you try to sign up for a new id. So if you patched and uninstalled, you're screwed. You cannot get the patch again. It's tied to your current userid, NOT what is actually on your hard drive, and you cannot sign up for a new games for windows userid, because microsoft has some huge bug that won't let you sign up for a new ID.

GET THE DAMNED PATCHES ON YOUR WEBSITE SO WE CAN DOWNLOAD THEM AND PUT THEM ON, QUIT USING GAMES FOR WINDOWS TO MANAGE OUR PATCHES.

    IDIOTS.....

Pretty fail indeed. I don't even get an option to download the patch when I log in.

I can't think of any possible reason for such a stupid method to be used for updating a game.

Do you mean a new gamertag?

I'm trying to figure out exactly what's going on so I can talk to Microsoft and find you a solution.

    Thanks.

If you've downloaded the patch once, you can find at: C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\Microsoft\XLive\ Updates

    Install it manually.

    Yeah.

GFWL will only do a check to see if the patch file has been downloaded to the directory mentioned above. It doesn't examine the actual game files to see if it's been applied or not.

If GFWL detects that the patch file is already on your PC, it will assume that it has already applied. And therefore will not attempt to run the update file automaticaly.

I do agree that GFWL is pretty much a joke. It doesn't even turn off achievements if you use cheats. Weak!

Out of curiosity, I was looking for this on Windows XP, but couldn't find it. Do you know where it is on XP? (I do have all my hidden files shown.)

I'm wondering when the STEAM version (well workable version) of the patch will be avaliable, considering games on STEAM and other digital-distributed versions of games require a different patch.

Not only that, your really inconviencing your Australian customers, which is sad considering the Bioshock IP is/was Australian when your 2k Boston (or whatever it was) was called Irrational Games (you know the guys who did System Shock 2).
But I went off on a tangent there, the Windows LIVE and XBOX LIVE system fails due to its system not being on ISP's unmetered internet traffic list (except for one ISP, Internode, ppl will post if theirs is if something has changed).
This means that for a significant chunk of your Australian customers it will eat into their download limits, especially if its a large patch (anything bigger than 50MB to 80MB).

At least most ISP companies either have seperate sites to download their patches that count as unmetered OR Include some/all Australian Content servers as unmetered internet traffic.

see this thread if you want to read into it more

Can't remember how you access that folder in XP, because I stopped using it ages ago.

Search in your HDD for file Media1.cab, you'll most likely have only one and that's the folder that the patch is saved to.

I have never had a game

with such a horrible patch system. Who would ever guess that patch is in directories that deep, and understand how games for windows works? Games for windows should detect the patch is NOT on and PUT IT ON if you have to reinstall.

This whole thing is like a nightmare. I just hope the reviewers are honest about this game. I just hope they tell people to stay clear of it, so they are not banged over the head by 2k games and robbed of 50 bucks.

Please support the game yourselves. I feel like I'm jumping through 50 hoops just to play this game. Games For Windows Live is awful.

Once the patch is successfully installed it is deleted, you will not find the patch on your harddisk.

New BS2 version is (for the retail DVD version):

    "DisplayVersion" = "1.0.0001.131"

The game displays 1.0 because the actual number is apparently too long to display.

    Hey guys,

I'm working on getting you a manual link. For now, please don't post unapproved links, as we have to vet them and make sure they are working correctly. We don't want anyone accidentally installing something that isn't fully functional, so for now, please go through GFWL and if you have a problem contact us.
