    Hello,

Please try this basic troubleshooting, please let me know if this helps.

    1. Delete all temporary files from your system.
Hold the windows key and press the 'R' key, this will open the Run window
Type 'temp' then click OK or Navigate to C:\Windows\Temp and delete all files in this folder.
Type '%temp%' then click OK or Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\*Your User Name*\Local Settings\Temp and delete all the files in this folder.

You may need to turn on the ability to view hidden files and folders to do this. To do so, double click My Computer, then click Tools and Options. Then click View and select the option to view all hidden files.
Then reboot and try the game again.

    2. Close down all background tasks.
To do this hold the windows key and press the 'R' key, this will open the Run window, then type MSCONFIG and click OK. From there click on the tab marked startup.
Click the button marked as Disable All, then click Apply and Close.

    3. Reinstalling the game.
Please uninstall the game, then delete the folder that is left behind. Then reboot the computer, reinstall the game and reboot again. Then install any patches that are available for the game, reboot the computer and then try the game again.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

I am experiencing the exact same problem. Bioshock did work some weeks(made it to "paul etc" 3th level). At that level quicksave gave errors (not able to save). After restarting the message came: "could not load save games".
The autosaves did appear. And I could play and save. A day later Bioshock 2 stopped working after the intro scenes. After the 5 cubes with the little sister, the screen went black, mouse pointer appears. I had to close with taskmanager. CPU load was low.

Vista 64 bit, Sys specs. AMD x3 445, ati 4870 512 mb. 4 BG ram
    I tried reinstalling bioshock.
Display drivers reinstalled (different versions 10.6 to 10.9)
Still the same problem: screen goes black, after introscenes, when the bioshock menu should appear.

Go to your documents tab in the star menu, then find the bioshock 2 tab. Open said tab, then open the saved games tab and delete all of the saved games inside. Dont worry this wont harm anything.

Restart Bioshock 2, if it tells you that you need to update Gfwl dont!! Exit the game and go to the gfwl main site and d/l the update directly through them, not through Bioshock 2.......it could also crash your game as well. The gfwl site is googled easily.

Now go back and play B2, when you save, make sure to only use one save throughout the whole game (autosave) you can manually save to the autosave game too. For some reasons B2 has a problem loading multiple saved games. This may be whats causing the crash. You may get away with having 2 saved games, but i would not chance anymore than that.

    Good luck guys.

Deleting the savegames works!! Thanks for the advise..
    Biosock 2 at least starts..
What is strange, is when I am already logged in to gfwl, but at the startup B2says I am not?!

To bad I have to start all over again, at least that's more sportsman like.
No savegames any more.. (I will try to set some back)

I placed all savegames back, except for the quicksaves. At the moment I am not experiencing any problems with startups and playing, although I don't use quicksaves anymore. I save the normal way. Quicksaves appear to be the problem. Maybe the file went corrupt somehow.

Nice, just make sure to overwright your saves. You want to keep all the saves you have to a minimum. I would not have anynore than 2 different saves at a time. 1 autosave and 1 manual.

If your Gfwl ever messes up, create a offline account. You wont be able to play Mp (who cares, its dead anyways) or do the achievments, but at least you will get to play the game. O ya, and never update windows live through your Bioshock 2 game. As I states earlier, doing so was causing crashes and freezes. Always update your game through the Gfwl's main site.

Good luck and have fun beating B2!

I may be a bit reckless, but I managed to play with 3 savegames of the map Pauper's drop. (I had to try ) I overwrite the same savegame most of the time. I just entered the next level Siren Alley.

But anyway PopNfresh, thank you very much for your advise!!
