    Bioshock 2 PC Crashing

Hello, I'm having problems playing this game. I try playing the Single player game, but it isn't working. I click on Single Player, Pick the difficulty, then watch the video. Right after the video everything just goes black and it would say something like “Bioshock 2 has stopped working”. I can't do anything. How do I fix this problem? I'm running Windows 7 and it seems like this game isn't compatible with it. I'm not going to reinstall XP just to play this game. Especially after I had paid for the game. Is there a patch 2K made to fix the problem you created?

I'm on XP and I'm not even getting as far as the movie.

So, then it isn't just the version of the OS? What hell is the problem then?

Some people have reported improvements by forcing DX9 through the Start menu. I don't know if that is any help to you.

Windows 7 doesn't have the option to go into DirectX 9 mode. I saw people give instructions on how to do that with Vista, but Windows 7 is different.

Read the sticky. The community and 2K tech support can't help you if you don't provide us additional details.

BioShock 1 had major issues concerning "BioShock.exe has stopped working".
I've been digging into that problem for some time now and not found a good fix. Most users with this issue are running Win7 x64 but it seems that Vista and XP users are also experiencing this problem.

Two things might relate to this and those are:
    1. FMOD conflict (GOM Player or other codec packs)
    2. Microsoft Visual C++ conflicts.

I suggest that you uninstall all Visual C++ packages you have installed, uninstall BioShock 2 and let BioShock install the libraries it needs. This might help.

It does, I can play both modes.

Well, I'll try uninstalling all Visual C++ and the game and then reinstall the game.
I just tried updating the video drivers and now the game just freezes at the menu window.

Then can you tell me how to get the modes to work on Windows 7?

Open Games Explorer, right click on BioShock 2 select dx9.

That is what I have been trying to do. Like I said, the option to switch to DirectX 9 doesn't exist. This is what I see when Right clicking the Icon. http://s78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...t=Bioshock.png

Maybe it's a Steam version? Because my retail version has the dx9 option.

Yes, I bought the game through Steam.

    That explains it.

Perhaps create a shortcut and add -dx9 at the end of the target?

I'll try that. I'm already in the process of reinstalling the game. We shouldn't have to go through this bull crap. Are they so lazy that they wouldn't test to make sure everything works?

How should that look? I right clicked on the shortcut and I see this. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" -applaunch 8850

Hm.. better do it through Steam then?

Open Steam, right click BS2 -> Properties -> Set Launch Options -> write -dx9

    Try it!

Okay. I'll let you know what happens after the game is finished installing.

Yeah, it worked, but it's still epic fail on the people who made this game.

I'm having the same problem, and while I have steam I can't add it to my games list. Can anyone help?
