Low resolution textures...
Hi, everyone.
Just bought BioShock today, so far so good. However, I've noticed that some textures are ridiculously low resolution, and looking at a released screenshot of the same area, the textures are normal looking.
For example, in the room with the large poster advertising plasmids, there is a neon sign in the form of a hand. (See here) In-game, the hand has basically no detail, no lightning bolts, no text over it, and strange artifact-like looking splotches around it.
Some objects, such as suitcases, also suffer from the same effect, with their textures so small it basically looks like a single color painted over it.
Is this a glitch, or a DirectX 10-only feature (i.e. Detailed Surfaces)? I have everything set on High, running in DirectX 9. The low resolution textures really are distracting, and I hope this can be fixed.

We need some more information. The most important thing to know is what kind of graphics card you're running.

Thats what happens when you have to develop for a total of 512-32 MB of memory.

I bought the game on Steam and I'm having the same issues. I put all the settings the same as I had them for the demo and when I killed the first guy, I noticed there were no textures on him, only 1 color for each item. ie, his vest was tan, his skin was "skin color" all flat with no texture. The walls in the room also looked horrible, like a low res texture blown up to massive dimensions. Currently I can't even "continue" a game without it crashing right away. I had some minor performance issues with the demo, but after I downloaded the beta drivers from Nvidia, they were fixed. I was able to run with all the max setting except forced global illumination, at 1680x1050. I was very surprised. Now that I have the full game though... it's unplayable
I have a 7900GS
Also I was having issues with it crashing as soon as I got to Rapture. Disabling EAX seemed to fix this the 1st time but I'm going to try and mess with drivers and setting some more. I don't see why I can't just use my demo settings though. This is very disappointing

Here are my specs:
Pentium 4 - 3.20GHz
Windows XP - SP 2
nVidia GeForce 8600 GT - 256MB
1.0GB RAM
I'm running the game at 1024x768, VSync off, Force Global Lighting off, and everything set on High.
I have managed to fix my texture problems with a simple restart. To make sure, I went into the graphics options and set textures to Medium then back to High before playing.
Everything looks fine now.
