Hi guys, i got the same problem.
The first time I tried to start it, it showed the text of 2k Games and showed 'Press [Home] for Windows for online gaming' then suddenly he stood still and I waited for a while.
After waiting I openend Task Manager and it said 'BioShock isn't working anymore. I tried several times to launch, but everytime I launched it show less and less text till no more text was showed.
Big problem because I've bought the game today and I couldn't wait to play it but now I'm not able to play it.
Please help me and other people with this problem.

Does the game work if you play with an offline GFWL account?

If it helps, this is how I got my game up and running. I also had to delete any save games I made from when I was able to get in once with GFWL up and running.

Now it runs fine in offline mode. GFWL is just awful.

I just realised i did the whole GFWL offline account mode wrong..
I cant even get to the step where GFWL comes into play..
    1. Click on Bioshock 2 in Steam
    2. Select "Start Bioshock 2" from the menu that pops up
    3. Little screen with Bioshock 2 and the logo with the big daddy and the little sister appears
    4. Screen goes black but has a white windows mouse pointer in the center.. if i click on the screen then i hit the window that has the "Bioshock 2 has stopped working" message (wich is hidden in the background) and the screen returns to windows

Try running the game in dx9 mode.

Just tried doing it all from scratch..

    Fresh install of Steam
    Fresh install of Bioshock
    Fresh install of Drivers
Fresh install of Games for Windows Live

Tried running it with Steam in offline mode
Tried running it with Games for Windows Live in offline mode
    Tried running it in DX9
Tried running it in all the compatebility modes

Made sure both my monitors were set to the same resolutions and 32bit colours

Still coming up empty.. just cant get the game to even start up..

Tried making Shortcuts again.. then tried adding -dx9 to the launch options in Steam once more..
This time i finally got into the game itself..
It wouldnt accept my cd key on GFWL tho and once i pressed Start Game and selected Medium Difficulty it just kinda stuck on the Loading Screen..
The music played out and the pictures kept scrolling by.. after about 5 minutes or something i tabbed out and the game stopped responding..

Was right there with you guys on Steam last night.

This thread helped me out: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56850

Updated directx, GFWL, sound drivers (video was up to date already). Tried launching the multiplayer as I had seen some people have more success with it than singleplayer. From there I was able to create the offline GFWL account and got the singleplayer game to actually load up but it still froze on the menu. Then I disabled the steam overlay, and finally was able to start a game.

Seems like Steam overlay and GFWL don't play well together maybe?

    Best of luck guys.

Did the game initially work for anyone here? I almost got to the end (as far as I can tell), and all of a sudden the game stopped saving, claiming I wasn't signed in to GFWL. I quit to see what was going on, and then couldn't start the game again. Intensely frustrating.

I don't even have the chance to go in-game. It says directly after starting the program: ''BioShock has stopped working''.
So no chance for GFWL to pop up.
And I haven't even got a folder for BioShock 2.
    Please help
