    Well, sadly, things are all back to the way they were and I followed everything yo8u laid out to the letter.
    Plus, all of that is stuff I'm familiar with anyway, so it was all basic to me, just so you know my level of how files and such work
    I'm just not all that familiar with anything like online gaming things, including the whole downloading games and updates with something like LIVE, which does feel strange and makes you wonder how a person would ever be able to play the game if for what ever reason they couldn't get online, but that's another topic that I'm pretty certain has been ranted about probably a zillion times by now LOL
    But, I uninstalled everything, cleaned everything, renamed the xLive folder, made sure I pretty much backed up and wiped out most of the files that really do anything and let the uninstallers just do their jobs.
    Rebooting afterwards for both uninstalls and reinstalls for both game and LIVE.

    So...... guess for now, I think I'll play the game as is and see what happens?
    The game NOW keeps starting like it's all brand new and that means I'll have to go in and completely reset everything back to how I had them, I think, but am hoping I won't need to, but it's looking that way so far, but since I can't actually get into the game play part to find out, I can't tell?

    OK, well, taht's enough trying to make things work for tonight, as I've used up most of my evening on this and just want to play before it gets to late, so I'll play with what I have for now.

    thanx..................md

    OK, well, now I simply can not play the game what so ever.
    Because no matter what I do, I can't play a saved game if I'm not logged in, and if I log in then it wants to install the update automatically, which I do not want to do, but it's either that or tell it no and then it logs you out, so then you are back to not being able to play the game.
    Gaaaaaaaaaaaa!

    It gives me that image that I posted in a couple of replies back:

    [img/]http://www.md-arts.com/scrn/BioShock2_LiveClient_ErrorMessage_01.JPG[/img]

    So.. any ideas on how I can just get the game back to ONLY the original version and NOT let it auto install any updates and still allow me to be logged in so that I can play my saved games and all that?

    thanx....................md <<< back to a sad smiley

    You can create an offline account by going to "Create new profile" in the Games for Windows overlay. Once you have selected this scroll down to the bottom of the text and you should see a blue link with the "create local profile" option there.

    Let me know if this helps.

    OK, well, instead of uninstalling the game again, I read in another thread that people have been deleting game saves, so I tried that out as well and that worked right off the bat and I was back into the game, but just to be sure for the future, I still made me a new Profile and can't for now know if that is doing anything to help or not, but I CAN for sure let you know that deleting the last game save DID do teh trick and I am now back in the game and will just be sure to every now and then, i.e. like when I get to some major new area, I'll not simply do a Quick Save, but instead do a real save in the save panel.

    Hopefully, this will last long enough for me to get in some play time, but it'll sure be fun when this all gets fixed right so that we all can play the game normally and get FULLY involved into and with the game without having to always worry about "oh yeah, don't forget to do a master save, now".

    anyway thanx and I am sure you all are working hard to get things right, as I know how this sort of thing can happen, being a beta person myself i can understand how things can get loose in the final market, but seriously, I am certain you all already know this was a major blunder that should of never been released like this, not in this shape

    But, unlike others, I love your games and will still stick with you as long as this doesn't become a regular thing.

    thanx again.......................md

    PS, is this the place people post bug reports to, a forum?, or is there a more direct place to foreward bug reports to?

    Sorry about that Slashere, I have some information here for you which may help:

    The location should be located in the installation folder C:\program files x86\2kgames\Bioshock\builds\release then whichever folder you need to change this for be it SP or MP.

    It is entirely possible to rebind ADOPT / HARVEST to mimick the USE /
    HACK rebind by adding these two lines to DefUser_int.ini under the line
    that states [GathererChoice]

    [GathererChoice]
    ReplaceableAction=Use
    ReplaceableAction=HackHarvestAndExitScout

    After making this change in the DefUser file you then need to redo your
    bindings in the binding screen.

    After doing this, if you change your USE key to T for example, the adopt key will
    also change to T. If you make your hack key Y, then the Harvest key
    will also become Y. The screen will still cosmetically say press "F" to
    adopt and "L" to harvest, but the rebinds will be applied and your Use
    and Hack rebinds will be used instead of F and L.

    Does this help? Please let me know, I'll run some tests here if needed or if it doesnt quite work out.

    I Believe harvest is shared with hack, have you tried the harvest key you have bound at the moment to see if thats the case?

    You can change the hack action in the user.ini

    Located here for Win7 and Win Vista :C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Bioshock2

    And located here for Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Bioshock2

    If you scroll down abit you will see some used and unused bindings, just add the hack command to it. Here is an example of my hack action being binded to E in the ini:

    E=HackAction

    Hope this helps

    KeyBind Fix for Direct2Drive win 7 posible all

    woooohooooooo I can Hack now,,, OK im going to put up a fix for this that worked for me in clear terms so people can hack and harvest and pick up little sisters!!!!!!

    I have the Direct to Drive version so i could not use the same path as some people so here is what I pulled togeather from tech guys and other websites.
    Im pretty sure this works for all people with Windows 7 , if not let me know.

    go here:

    C:/programfiles(x86)/2kgames/bioshock2/SP/Builds/Binaries

    open the file DefUser_int with notepad

    click on Edit and then Find
    in the box type: "Gatherer" and hit next till you find the one that says [GathererChoice]

    once you find that add these two lines,

    ReplaceableAction=Use
    ReplaceableAction=HackHarvestAndExitScout

    then click edit and then find again

    search for HackPrototype

    you should find a section that looks like this [HackPrototype]
    under there add "HackAction" (without the quotes) to a key that is not being used, for instance I put
    J=HackAction

    click file then save.
    sometimes it does not want to save, in this case save it to your desktop and then delete the old one and drag the new one in its place.

    This makes it so when you change the Use Key to something else you will be able to use the "Use" key to pick up a little sister and the "J" key to stop the needle when you are trying to hack the rest of the buttons work the same way as before.

    Hehehe, OK, here's what I finally ended up doing to speed life up for me a bit.
    I made a short-cut to the Savegames folder and placed that on my desktop.
    See, now everytime it spazes out, like it just did again, I merely click on my short cut and delete the two bad files that are some how created there and things all go back to working right AND still at the same place in the game that I last was at.

    So, there ya go, that at least helps things out for me, slightly LOL

    Nope
    This was the correct thread I was looking for when I first did a search for the problems I was having, which all had to do with the Hack Tool.
    Just things morphed into how they are now, as I would try things and then report and so on and so on until I am where I am right now.
    Yes, someone here in THIS thtread posted the suggestions about deleting the Save Game files that for what ever reason get corrupted.
    That does seem to solve the "other" problems that popped up as I got further into things from where I started with the first door and the Hack Tool issue.

    So, in short, yes, I posted in the right thread
