First thing to do is make sure your disc is clean and free from scratches.

If the disc is clean then you will need to create a folder on your desktop and copy the disc to this folder. Then run the installation from inside this folder.

To do this Create a new folder on your desktop (Right-click in an available space > New > Folder).
With the disk in the drive go to My Computer
Right-click the icon for the game choose Explore
Select all the files and folders (Ctrl+A)
    Copy them all (Ctrl+C)
Paste them into the new folder (Ctrl+V).
To run the installation double-click the Setup.exe file in the folder.

    Dear Tech Kris.

I did everything you suggest, still when the files are copying, it says "data2" can't be read from the original file.

Can you try copying the files to another computer. I don't want you to try the install on another computer. Just want to know if that data2 file can be copied.

Could it be a "read-only" issue in the new folder ?

Cyclic redundancy check is normally when it cannot read from the source file itself, either the disc could be damaged or the file itself may be corrupt, I'd un-check read-only just in case and try again, if you receive the same result you may need to swap for another copy, it could be a faulty disc

Try copying again without read only on, if nomatter what happens it still gives the same response, you'll have to exchange for a new one (just use a receipt to get it swapped)

Like Collective10 say's this is an issue reading the disc. CRC usually means the disc is damaged in some way. It can also mean a problem with the drive reading the disc. Make sure you have all the latest software (firmware drivers etc) for your disc drive.

    Question

A friend of mine tried by solving the read-only thing.
    Still doesn't work.
So it's either a LOT of disc drives are totally not compatible with BS2, either a major failure while editing some of your games...

Ok I spotted a lot of guys over the internet who have exactly the same problem as I have. And there is not a single one of them who has the same drive disc than me, or even the same brand.
So please don't tell me to blame my drive...

Not going to say it's a drive problem just troubleshooting at the moment.

Have you tried installing in safe mode with networking?

Sounds like a corrupt disc. Can you return it to the store for a replacement.

If the store won't exchange the disc then PM me and let me know

    Have already exchanged the disc.
this is my second one. Same problem.
I mean, if it is really a problem of corrupt disk, what are the odds of getting two corrupt discs ???

Probably the same as having 3 computers that bring up the same error.

This will need looking into in a lot more detail.
Could you contact Tech Support about this.

Before we can help we need to see your DXDiag and MSinfo files

Press the Windows key +'R' on your keyboard > Type dxdiag > Click OK > Click Save all information
Press the Windows key +'R' on your keyboard > Type msinfo32 > Click OK > Select File and then export.

Save both the files to your desktop and attach them in an email.
Give a full description of your issue and mention that you have tried 2 games and 3 PC's.

If you would like me to personally look into the case then put FORUM in the subject line and PM me your email address.

    I'll do that.
But before that, one thing that might interest you : a guy on a forum had exactly the same problem. Except that he is running under windows 7. Before installing, he switched the compatibility mode in the setup to "Vista", and it worked !!!

I tried to do the same, as I'm under Vista I switched for XP, but still doesn't work and still the same message.

3 days now, I've bought the game and still can't install it with that problem. Tried 2 discs and doesn't work. And we still don't have answer from 2K.
I'm not going to try it on different computers, I'm not a beta tester.

I really wonder why do we have to pay for a game that doesn't work when there are people who take it illegally on internet and can play.

    Hello,

To fully trouble-shoot the installation, please do the following:-

    1. Try to clean the CD. Make sure there are no marks, scratches or blemishes on the CD itself, as this can impede data transfer.

    2. Perform a thorough Scandisk. To do this go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/ScanDisk. Click the drive you want to check. Then, under Type of test, click Thorough. This will check your disk surface, files, and folders for any errors

    3. Defrag the Hard Drive. To do this go to Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Disk Defragmenter. This will rearrange files and unused space on your hard disk so that programs run faster.

    4. Delete all temporary files from your system.

Hold down the windows key and press the 'R' key, then type 'Temp' in the Run box that appears and click OK.

Please delete all files in this folder.

Hold down the windows key and press the 'R' key, then type '%Temp%' in the Run box that appears and click OK.

Please delete all files in this folder.

You may need to turn on the ability to view hidden files and folders to do this. To do so, double click My Computer, then click Tools and Options. Then click View and select the option to view all hidden files.

    5. Close down all background tasks.
Hold down the windows key and press the 'R' key, then type MSCONFIG and click OK. From there click on the tab marked startup.

For Windows XP users click the button marked as Disable All, then click Apply and Close.
For Non Windows XP users, please remove the ticks from all of the boxes apart from the below four and then click Apply and close.

    LoadPowerProfile
    ScanRegistry
    SystemTray
    TaskMonitor

    6. Copy the disc contents to the PC. To do this:-

    - Go to the Desktop and right click on the clear space and select New > Folder
    - Name this folder Bioshock 2
    - Open the folder
    - Double Click My Computer, open the disc containing Bioshock 2
    - Copy the contents of the disc in to the New Folder (Press Ctrl + A in the Disc drive window, then Press Ctrl + C, then click on to the new folder then Press Ctrl +V)
    - Once all the files are copied over, locate the file labeled setup.exe (this will have a icon with a blue square with 2 White triangles) and double click it.
The game will now install in the regular manner.

Should the same error still appear after completing all of the above steps then you may like to try replacing the game at your point of purchase.

    Kind regards,
    Paul

Dear Tech Paul, thank you for your message.

Actually I gave my game back at my retailer, so I am not gonna be able to do what you suggest.

But frankly, I did most of the things you suggest (not always in this specific order) on 5 different PCs, with always the same issue. So i don't think this would have worked with me.

Besides, more and more people are suggesting to install the game with an external disc drive, 'cause it worked for them. it looks more and more like an incompatibility with A LOT of disc drives.

    Problem solved.

    How ?
By taking the game back to my retailer and getting a new one, for the second time !
I know this sounds crazy, but with the first two games, same error message on 5 different PCs, nothing to do.
3rd game : installing normally, playing normally. 1 hour playing, no bug or crash whatsoever.

So if you want my opinion : get the game exchanged at your retailer. End of story.
    Thanks 2K for your support.

    Good game all of you.

So, this is incredible that we have to change 3 time the CD or try in 5 different PC for finally have the game completetly intalled.
You sell CD's who can't be reading by the most of existing PC's.
    Burning issue?
Well, we don't have to go to the retailer one more time, YOU must put freely downloadable data2.cab for us.

Sorry for inconveniants but i'm really upset then.
