Alright, here's the deal.
CD looks fine and unscratched. Autoplay runs. Setup runs. It's all good and well until we get to installation. Then it stops at the file BioShock\Content\BulkContent\4-recreationLevel.blk
Feature transfer error
Feature: DefaultFeature
Component: ContentDir
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)
Hitting OK then causes the InstallShield to completely exit.
OK, I thought that Securom's draconian protection system might be causing this, so Daemon Tools has not only been closed, but uninstalled. No Good. I've spent the last two hours trying to install Bioshock. Now I'm beginning to wonder if it's better for me to download from Steam and use the activation code on the back of my manual there, if that even works.
I really don't think that my DVD's defective, and I don't really have any other computer to install it on. Is there some way for me to manually install this, or at least get it on my hard drive somehow? Then I can deal with the internet activation and whatever troubles that may entail afterwards... for now, it won't even sit still and install.
I'm running Windows XP Home on a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, so I don't know if that'll make a difference - there shouldn't be a file system compatibility problem, and I have 12 gigs free for the install.
Thanks.
