    Big ATI Driver Problems

I'm using an ATI Radeon 256mb x800 video card. When i get to the title screen of bioshock my mouse does not appear, its invisable, this is justa warning sign because once i get past the new game opening scene in the plane and the dripping Logo, everything goes black except for white splash effect here and there and fire. Also small boxes floating around showing mini copies of what my monitor is displaying. In have tried downloading many different drivers to fix the problem, including the new one released by ATI and older catalyst drivers. My last attempt was to restore the old driver that came with my dell machine. None of these options have worked and i am getting quite desperate any help would be appreciated thanks!

The problem isn't the drivers. The problem is that the x800 doesn't meet the minimum system requirements.

Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550).
    The x800 isn't 9.0c compliant and doesn't support SM 3.0.

Is an X700 Pro not supported either?

Just makes no sense that a person i know with a lower grade force runs it but my x800 does not. And it is quite annoying because for that fact i was lead to believe i could run it.

Read the system requirements, they're very clear. You need a x1300 or better. 700<1300.

It makes perfect sense. The system requirements are spelled out clearly. You need an x1300 or Geforce 6600. It isn't 2k/Irrational's problem if people buy stuff that their PC can't run when it says so right on the label and all over the web.

So now i get to go blow $200 if i feel like playing this game, replaceing a card that i have never had problems with before. Only one word has the ability to describe this.

    "Outstanding"

Yeah, as if the average member of Joe Public is going to know what an X1300 is and whether their own graphics card is better or worse than that.

Unless you carry around an encyclopedia of graphics card serial numbers in your head, how would "x1300 or better" be helpful? The numbers have never gone in logical order - there were cards before the X800 series that were labelled 9 thousand and something, so there are things called "800" or "700" that are better than a "9000". And companies love sticking the letter X all over the place, to make their products sounds eXciting or eXtreme or something. Unless you have a list of all the graphics cards and their capabilities in front of you, just seeing the phrase "X1300 or better" is meaningless.

In the readme file for the demo it says it needs shader model 3.0 support, but it didn't say that on technical requirements on webpages and Steam and stuff. Just the X1300 stuff.

I think the basic qualm that most people have is that almost every other game will run with any graphics card you have. Whether its slow or not depends on how old it is. This pretty much is the only new game that requires you to have a very recent card in order to run, which is ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺. What am I supposed with my very powerful "nonsupported" card. Crap, pure crap in every sense of the word.

Stupidity is expensive in life. If you don't understand the system requirements, don't buy the software. Pretty simple concept. Your ignorance isn't the developers' fault.

Yeah, ATI and naming things with logic, dont mix. It seems though my card is 9.0b enabled, great. It ran games that looking better then bioshock, so i assumed it would run bioshock. That though makes too much sense.

Listen here monkey, I can run Company of Heroes, Supreme commander, and all gamut of other recent video games. Just because Bioshock is unique in that you have to have technology that is in standardized 360's, doesnt mean that it will transition over into a pc port very well. If they want to start making all games that are just hardware specific, then you will become like Mac's. Making all there software only compatible with there hardware. That is just bonkers.

Stupidity? , my box says it requires a 9.0 direct X compliant V card. And honestly, the fact that 9.0c make so mayn card otherwise acceptable for this game useless youd think 2K would try to make a bigger note about the fact that many cards dont have 9.0c and you should check to make sure.

Also in agreement with Czar, I bought this sort of card, to not worry about system specs, to be able to run game of the new age, its power it up there but the fact that its missing a small hardware component and it was not highlighted more by 2k honestly annoys me. Also, its not a waste of money, i would buy it once i get system requires anyway which was going to be soon, this might make it sooner so its just a preorder for me then.
