    Unhappy SecuROM error 5024.

I'm getting a 5024 error with my Process Explorer program and I have no idea why. The program isn't on, its not set to default or anything, but the game refuses to run.

Sort of dampens my mood when I can't get in the game right from install and have to go scour the internet hoping for a fix, and not finding one.

After laying down 50 for this game it shouldn't be so difficult to expect it to work right?

Well it's good to know I'm not the only one.

I turned off pretty much everything in my taskbar. There's no process explorer running anywhere, and yet I still get the 5024 error pointing me to this,

Kinda disappointing being unable to play the game. It's been preloaded on my hard drive from a while now, and now it refuses to run.

    Red face

I am having this same problem now on retail! I had it when I played demo and now got it after a few hours of play of retail. I turned off Alcohol and any other virtual drives, I am not de-installing these tools. I am getting tired of rebooting my pc and sometimes that didn't even work. Be really nice to get a response to this! There is also no process explorer running. I don't get why I played for 4+ hours already and I never got the message until now!?!

Ok, tried something silly and got this... can't write license...

    bioshock

    Could not write license data!
Please contact Customer Support for further instructions.

Now what I did was right-click bioshock on my desktop, select 'Run as..', took the default and clicked ok.

When you do 'Run as' if you remove the checkmark from 'Protect my pc blah blah' it will crash with the

    bioshock

A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (5024).

Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=module&c=5024 for further, more detailed information.

For some reason this has to do with how process explorer(from sysinternals) queries something, if you open process explorer you get the error, even if it's not open anymore.

You have to reboot your computer (remove it from the startup first if you have it starting automatically like me). I had the same problem with Neverwinter Nights 2 (which while a good game, I didn't like enough to play past the first act).

although... I don't have vista so I don't know if there might be something else causing it for you.

I can confirm what xpyder said, you cant have had process manager running at any point during the comp session you want to play bioshock in. Sorry guys

I have Process Explorer but it is not running. In the Windows task manager it isn't running either. Why would I run Process Explorer playing a game?!

It has nothing to do with an "incompatibility". Process explorer is blacklisted because it could be used to analyze the internals of Securom. Pretty soon, Visual Studio will be as well as well as all other programming tools and debuggers.

Dont you love how they conveniently forgot to add in not only the fact that Securom was installed and that you had only 2 activations but that they game wouldnt work if you have other applications on your machine?

I use process explorer as a debugging tool for troubleshooting at work. It would be a nightmare if everyone stopped application installs if it had been run.
