Are name-tags over players' heads compulsory? I mean, can you turn them off, or is the only way of identifying someone as an ally or an enemy by having the floating name above their head? Just wondered because in some trailers there are no name-tags.

I could see it spawning on the ceiling...

Question: Could you release a list of tonics or any of that we get at the start of playing and what will be our first unlockable and if you can, what level?

Question: The Houdini plasmid seems to be really fun. If you tried it, was it fun to use?

Question: How will cheaters be handled in-game? (EXP Boosting/Glitching/Bug Abusers)?

    Q. What are some strategies you've used for taking out the Big Daddy player? Do plasmids like Geyser Trap have any effect on a monster of that size?
    A. Geyser Trap doesn't propel him in the air like it does for Splicers (too heavy), but it gets him in a Wet state still, so follow up with Electro Bolt and you can do some nice damage.

    Big Daddy Takedown Strategies:
Hit & Run. You're faster than him, and your health regens. Take a few shot, leave, come back, rinse and repeat.
Invisible Shotgunner. Go Houdini, reappear close to the Big Daddy and unload all your shells. Go Houdini and run away before he notices you.
Mind Games. Use Telekinesis and find explosive barrels in the environment and throw them at him for massive damage. Or better yet use his proximity mines against him.
Gang Up. Don't go one-on-one. Bring a friend, or take him on when someone else already is. Add bees for added success. If he has to divide his attention he's way more vulnerable.
    Etc.

    Q. How much aim assist will the console's feature?
    A. Just a little.

    Q. if you wanted to just use guns will you do okay, or is the mp engineered towards plasmids more than guns, or balanced?
    A. You can get by just using guns, but the game is balanced for players using both.

    Q. What about sensitivity?
    A. I personally feel our highest setting (100) is close to unplayable so hopefully that satisfies you. We rebuilt the whole stick inputs/accelerations etc. so numbers don't really compare to the 1st game.

    Q. How quickly can a rank 40 be achieved?
    A. Just like SP length that can vary greatly between players. Earlier ranks are achieved faster, but you'll have to commit a lot of playtime to get through the later ranks and reach rank 40.

    Q. Are there a lot of challenges
    A. Yes lots. And some are pretty hard to pull off! All optional though.

    Q. Are name-tags over players' heads compulsory? I mean, can you turn them off, or is the only way of identifying someone as an ally or an enemy by having the floating name above their head?
    A. In free-for-all games obviously everyone's an enemy. In team games you can tell between team members and enemies by their clothes' color as well as their name's color. Red means enemies, blue means friends (so yes everyone sees themselves as blues). Friend names are displayed through walls so they're easier to locate, while enemy names need line of sight to appear. Can't be turned off.

Watch the EVE though, Houdini drains it pretty fast. If you plan heavy usage of the Houdini plasmid I strongly recommend the EVE Saver tonic. Maybe the Fast Feet tonic too so you move a bit faster and your footsteps aren't as loud...

    Q. The Houdini plasmid seems to be really fun. If you tried it, was it fun to use?
    A. One of my favorites.

    Q. Could you release a list of tonics or any of that we get at the start of playing and what will be our first unlockable and if you can, what level?
    A. I could but I don't wanna spoil it. Every rank gets you a new tool though (be it plasmid, weapon, tonic or upgrade), that much I can say.

You could be a big friend if you sent it in a PM since I won't be getting Bioshock 2 for a while since I don't have the money or it might even be out of stock for a while. There will be nothing to spoil on me.

Question: How long did it take for multiplayer to have a full working match? (Coding wise/Bug fixing/Maping)

How are the explodable barrels balanced in the game?
Will there be some of them each time you play a new game/round.. or will they respawn ?

I heared that the music from Bioshock 1 will be used in the Multiplayer.
Is this playing during gameplay, or only in the appartement/waiting screens etc.

Lol I hope it's not Halo 3 like.

Hello Mathew. Got a few questions, even though most of my fears have been answered

    1. How do you think the servers are doing? Is there bullet lag? Will there be hit registration problems?

    2. Do you think there is any reason to camp what so ever in this game? Are the maps designed to have power spots so TDM is playable?

    3. Is there a foot speed tonic? Or any ones that give a specific edge against big daddys?

    4. Do you think this game can be played competitivly and there is a skill gap?

    5. Whats the difference damage wise between the crossbow, elephant gun, and pistol? Whats the advantages for both.

    6. Has the "flow" of aiming improved over Bioshock 1?

    7. Is it too easy to escape with all these escape plasmids? Are there counters too aerodash, houdini, gt?

    8. Would you support a company like MLG or Gamebattles and the competitive side of the game?

  12. #52
    Thanks for answering questions!

    I have 1 question:

Q: Is there any type of Prestige system in the multiplayer? (Something new to do after Rank 40)?

  13. #53
So once you get to Rank 40, is that the end, technically anyway? Cause I don't expect a prestige, you don't wanna make MW2, but something along the lines of it?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I noticed there's and Achievement called:

    "Proving Grounds"
    Win your first non-private match.

Does this mean you only have one chance to unlock this Achievement (on your first online match). Or does it just mean when you win your first online match? Thanks!

That just means win a match online so dont worry.

    Q. "Proving Grounds" Win your first non-private match. Does this mean you only have one chance to unlock this Achievement (on your first online match). Or does it just mean when you win your first online match? Thanks!
    A. You get it by winning your first online match, so it's not a one-chance only kinda thing.

    Q. can only the person who killed the victim research that corpse or can someone else come and take his research points?
    A. Good question! So someone dies, they leave a corpse, anybody can research it to get a damage bonus on its player. It's actually a good strategy to see 2 players fighting, wait for one to go down, see the winner go over his previous opponent's corpse and start to get a picture... And then you strike! You take him down, and before you lies 2 corpses you can research.

    Q. Cause I don't expect a prestige
    A. No prestige.

    Q. How do you think the servers are doing? Is there bullet lag? Will there be hit registration problems?
    A. Felt very smooth in our multiple play sessions.

    Q. Do you think there is any reason to camp what so ever in this game? Are the maps designed to have power spots so TDM is playable?
    A. I guess Turf War kind of has players defending some control points unless they decide to keep running around trying to seize enemy ones. And even with dynamic spawning, we made sure maps had clear battle lines and bottlenecks to make teamplay engaging.

    Q. Is there a foot speed tonic? Or any ones that give a specific edge against big daddys?
    A. Fast Feet adds a bit to your movement speed and makes your footsteps quieter. Big Game Hunter adds a damage % to all your attacks to Big Daddy players, so if you like to go head-on against him it's a good one to use.

    Q. Has the "flow" of aiming improved over Bioshock 1?
    A. Very much so, all the controls were basically rebuilt from scratch to feel like a AAA shooter. Night and day compared to the first game in my opinion, and that's for both SP and MP.

    Q. Is it too easy to escape with all these escape plasmids? Are there counters too aerodash, houdini, gt?
    A. Land Winter Blast on a Splicer about to Aero Dash and he'll only move forward a few feet instead of the normal distance. Land Incinerate! on a Houdini Splicer so that you can follow its flames even when invisible! Someone using a Geyser Trap? If you land an Electro Bolt on it while its active on the ground its ownership goes to you as well as getting charged with electricity, so it'll damage him when he steps in it.

    Q. Do you think this game can be played competitivly
    A. Yeah I do. There's a lot of skills to masters and lot of depth past the very accessible shooter mechanics.

    Q. How are the explodable barrels balanced in the game? Will there be some of them each time you play a new game/round.. or will they respawn ?
    A. They do not respawn, and some maps have more than others.

    Q. I heared that the music from Bioshock 1 will be used in the Multiplayer. Is this playing during gameplay, or only in the appartment/waiting screens etc.
    A. It's there in the load screens, menus, apartment. Not during actual play, though some levels have radios with music playing out of them that adds to the atmosphere.

    Q. How long did it take for multiplayer to have a full working match?
    A. A few months at first since we had to rebuild all networking capabilities into the engine.

Question that I've asked here quite often but now finally I can ask a developer about.

What were the reasons behind including online trophies/achievements when greatest hit games are actually beginning to abandon them? (MW2, Uncharted 2.. etc).

Just to let you know, I am absolutely THRILLED for the MP! I want to try it but the online trophies are putting me off primarily because some of us do not live in the US and can be thus at a disadvantage, since our skills and kills will be determined first and foremost by extraneous factors, such as latency, rather than the person's actual skills.

    Thanks!

but say in team slayer the person who worked hard on getting that kill and his bud runs up and takes his research .....i guess its going to be like a unwritten rule NOT TO STEAL YOUR ALLIES RESEARCH

edit-and a stupid question how do we tea bag in this game? lol

I know from videos and articles that big daddy suits are only in certain multiplayer modes.

  21. #61

    Controls

What are the new controls for Bioshock 2's multiplayer for Xbox 360?

  22. #62
Question: Why didn't you guys add the bouncer to multiplayer?

Question: Why does IGN get to play the games first! >:O

Question: Why did you use the new model of the Little Sister when the other little sister model was before the Bioshock 2 happened?

Come on now. It's cool enough we have developers kind enough to take the time to answer our questions. But lets not ask questions just for the sake of asking questions!!

If you have a legitimate multiplayer question ask! But as far as things like the button layout, I think we can wait to read the manual to find out eh?

And again, thank you Mathieu for taking the time to chat with us! It's probably alot of reading on your part, sorry if we're bombarding you with questions!

    1. because how would they balance the drill?\
    2. because they're critics
    3. because thats the more polished looking little sister, remember they designed mp from the ground up! Little sisters didn't change their look over time, they just got a make over, they look more life like now I think.

We know for a fact that there are turrets, but we have not seen any cameras or security bots. Hacking this time appears to be simply holding down a button near the turret.

    DE,

Have you guys played Shadowrun(Xbox 360/PC)? It's one of my favorite multiplayer shooters ever and Bioshock 2 looks eerily similar in many ways, from the awesome powers to how they counter each other. I've been waiting a long time for another game like it and it looks like you guys are going to deliver. Thanks : )

Another quick question, are there any plans for possible patches to address balancing issues? The game looks balanced already, but will future updates be released if glitches or other game-breaking exploits are found?

Thanks again for giving gamers a multiplayer experience that is truely unique.

I heard a camera go off in a video but i didn't see one so i don't know if they really are.

Question 1: When someone is playing Capture the Sister and they grab the little sister, can they fire at all, plasmids or anything? I know you hold her, but can you still use your left hand to use plasmids?

Question 2: How are the spawns handled? Do they change to correspond with most of the respawning players' team, do they have one given spawn the whole game unprotected, or is is something like Team Fortress 2 where they can choose to walk out of the spawn?

Question 3: Do upgraded plasmids come from doing challenges with that plasmid, like the Old Man Winter Trial we've seen in gameplay, or when you rank up do you get higher levels?

By the way, thanks for answering our questions, glad to see some developer interactment, as we all are, and you putting up with some rather dumb questions.

I don't know about the last two but I have an answer for the first!

    1. Yes, 100% positive you can. It's been confirmed and you can see it in gameplay vids.

  37. #77
I'm pretty sure from reviews and video interviews, you get upgraded plasmids from ranking-up. And yes, you can use your left hand for plasmids while you are carrying the sister, but you must drop her to fire your gun.

"I'm pretty sure from reviews and video interviews, you get upgraded plasmids from ranking-up."
    A. Nope, no upgraded plasmids.

"And yes, you can use your left hand for plasmids while you are carrying the sister, but you must drop her to fire your gun."
    A. This is accurate. Can't melee as well.

    Q. How are the spawns handled? Do they change to correspond with most of the respawning players' team, do they have one given spawn the whole game unprotected, or is is something like Team Fortress 2 where they can choose to walk out of the spawn?
    A. Respawning is fully dynamic and based on enemy proximity, tries to put players away from enemies to kinda pace the encounter rate / chaos. In team games teams initially spawn together, but there is no 'base spawning'.

    Q. Have you guys played Shadowrun(Xbox 360/PC)?
    A. Yes a little, I can see how some elements that appealed to Shadowrun fans will be appreciated in our MP. Biggest gameplay difference is that we are not class-based, players have more freedom in carving out their own gameplay style.

    Q. any plans for possible patches to address balancing issues?
    A. We'll be watching.

    Q. Is their technology (turrets, cameras, securtiy bots, etc) around the map you can hack?
    A. You can hack turrets (rpg ones and machine gun ones) as well as dispensers. No cameras or bots.

    Q. Does Natural Camo make a return?
    A. No.

    Q. Does ANY invisibility tonics come in? I'm not talking houdini
    A. No, the Houdini plasmid should cover all your invisibility needs.

    Q. Attachments?
    A. Each weapon has access to 2 different upgrades (players can only equip one at a time). These are meant to offer different functionality, not really 'better'. For example the pistol gets a Damage Increase upgrade, but it also reduces shooting speed, adds recoil, etc.

    Q. How many game modes are there? I haven't been keeping up.
    A. Seven.

    Q. What's ADAM grab?
    A. A game mode where the objective is to find a Little Sister and be the one holding her the longest. Team ADAM Grab uses the same rules but in a team setting.

    Q. Is there a rader.
    A. No radar.

    Q. how do we tea bag in this game?
    A. There is a crouch button, though the intent is for the research system to provide just as much humiliation on top of its gameplay reward.

Ok thank you for answering my question but I do have some last questions.

    1. Is the ghost vision coming to the multiplayer. As everyone knows the ghost visions is a side affect of the use of ADAM well my question is is there any representation involving the ghost visions. Quite some time ago I posted an idea for the ghost visions being used as a 3D in play kill cam.

    2. Do we heal automatically like MW2 or go you have to go find a healing stations like in Bioshock 1.

    3. Are you able to carry medic kits with you around the map like Jack in Bioshock 1. Jack was able to carry up to 9 eve and medic kits, so can we?

    4. How does the weapon and plasmid system work anyway. Is is similar to MW2 where you have to wait and get to a certain level to unlock a weapon or does it work like Bioshock 1 where you can buy a plasmid anytime, but you need the right amount of ADAM to get it. With that said an example is with -nsect swarm. Do you have to wait till like level 35 or do just need like 100 adam and just purchase it anytime when you get enough to buy it?

    5. Is there any news on the teleportation plasmid entering multiplayer. Afterall, the telelportation plasmid was taken out cause people would skip important cut scenes. Since this is multiplayer it has no cut scenes and teleportation would work fine?

    6. Will I be able to play. I live in Alaska with one crappy connection. So will I get a bit of lag or will I just not be able to walk an inch?

    7. Is there a region seperater?

Sorry if I have so many questions. These are like the most questions I have thought about ever since multiplayer was annonced. If you do answer them all, thanks in advance and if you can't do to the fact it might spoil some things I understand.

    Oo I almost for got:
Last question... IS THERE SPLIT SCREEN for online use!!??
