video games only cause anger and false pride,
the only reason people buy video games is because they want to win without doing that much, winning without using much skill, monopoly requires more skill than most video games. and anger caused by people who think they are superior than another person as a person by people who just want as much pride as they can get out of a game. but no one really cares i dont care that much and thats the sad part about it.

i dont play games to win, the only two games i like is civilization revolution and modern warfare 2.

in both i dont play single player, just online, its good to win at sometimes, but when you lose you do learn alot, speacially hiding places, or good sniping spots..

or how to discover the secrets of bombers in 1000ad.. pretty cool..lol

Those are very interesting points that you bring up, but I know that I play video games for fun. When I play multiplayer games, winning is obviously more enjoyable than losing, but it isn't really achieving false pride to win. Being on a sport team and winning a game isn't much different than playing a video game and beating other players.

While I agree that some gaming is for the thrill of winning, there are also instances of playing for the sheer enjoyment of it. Take Bioshock for example. It's not the kind of game meant to be enjoyed by winning. It's the experience of getting there that's rewarding. The final boss of Bioshock was distinctly unsatisfying, but the entire game had some much depth and intellectual commentary that you can't help but enjoy it while you play.

While I do see your point, It upsets me you would think like this.

True, some play Video Games to feel achievement in their lives, but I and probably many others play because we are bored....Maybe it's raining outside? I don't know and I don't care. But you were making a semi- false statement, my friend. And semi-false statements should be corrected.




PS: The only game that takes more skill then Monopoly is Portal.

I get nothing out of a video game. A game does not influence me or stir up emotional discontent inside of me in any way. I play video games for the same reason I go to the movies or read books -- for the entertainment value.

And for those who take video games seriously enough to be influenced by them, perhaps you should stop right now and rethink your entire outlook on life.

same with me Dr.Locke . you know, it depends on people. i personally do not scream in fury like a sick maniac when someone kills me online in game. i dont think that im superior either when i get the kill. but there are always fukced up people everywhere who really think like theperson said.

Here's my input on games and works of fiction like that. I play games, read books, watch movies, etc. to sort of escape from reality. But not for the reasons you may think. I think this day and age we live in compared to any other, past or possible future, is BORING! There are no great adventures like in bioshock or the days of old, and there are certainly no apocalyptic wasteland epics ala fallout or Rage. That's just my two sense. But I do know the reality behind the games, and live it as well as I can, it's just boring.

Video games can actually teach you stuff and they can serve to help develop the mind (potentially at the detriment of other aspects of the whole person but in moderation I think they're okay).

If they're a person's sole source of esteem and positive reinforcement then I think there probably is a problem, but it's less to do with the game and more to do with habits of the person playing.

One of the primary dynamics (using the word in a wider context than that of game development) that make games compelling and interesting is learning; about the game in question and its various nuances. Once there's no more to learn, figure out or explore then the game becomes boring. Sorry if that ruins it for some people out there, but fun is about learning...srysly.

For a more real sense of achievement engage with more complicated games. More strategy, more puzzle games, more tactics. If you're bored of the ones you're playing find more challenging genres, but ultimately and more importantly if you're playing so much that you are getting bored of what's out there then you probably really are playing way too much...

...at that stage you need to find additional interests— what you'll find is that it makes the time you spend with your games that much sweeter.
