Wow I'm glad I have a 360... Sorry...
yeah sorry. I was already frustrated after wasting hard earned cash on a game I couldn't play after being forced to upgrade for the last BioShock to get a stupid comment that I can just use a kb/m. I am already well aware that PC games CAN be played using a kb/m and I thought I made my point on the issue glaringly clear. I shouldn't've taken out my frustration on people who had nothing to do with the cause of my frustration, but that's just not the way the human mind seems to function. Combine this with the ongoing critisism and insults I've recieved over the years from other forums/forum goers about being a gamepad weilding PC gamer, anyone advocating to use a kb/m on a thread about the gamepad instantly reveals ongoing frustrations with these types of people.
But my point was that 2K previously supported the xbox360 gamepad but ignored the logitech gamepad, forcing me to upgrade. Now for them to ignore the hardware that I purchased for the previous BioShock seems very unfair to me. I now have the unrealistic expection that 2K owes me for the cost of the hardware that BioShock compelled me to purchase. I did the right thing and purchased their game even though I'm not into multiplayer and the pirated version would've sufficed quite well. Anyways, I've brought BioShock 2 with me into work today and am returning it on my lunch break. Now I don't want to play BioShock Infinite (even if it has xbox360 gamepad support) when it comes out because I've missed out on BioShock 2 and a critical part of the story line, and I loved my first venture into Rapture. I'm upset that I can't play an excellent game because of stereotyping people that use the PC platform for gaming.
Below Image: Seriously outdated view of what the PC platform represents.

This is not what I call a comfortable place for a leisurable activity like playing videogames. My 3 computers are entertainment devices with the ability for short bursts of business activity, my missus' computer is designed for long periods of work and I certainly wouldn't be hunched over it for fun.
Well i suppose purchasing an expensive low-powered gaming console like the xbox360 is the ideal solution to my problems. The first BioShock I was forced to purchase Micro$oft hardware in order to play with a gamepad, so the logical conclusion is that paying even more for an xbox360 to use a gamepad on BioShock 2 is a sound concept. Perhaps I can get some 2K tech out also in order to make the graphics not look like crap on my 46" samsung monitor.. oh wait its an xbox with the power of a crappy laptop from the 80s. This is so frustrating and it makes me feel very cheated by 2K Games. I have a PC that can encode media, unrar files and max out its dual-GbE copying files to my backup computer all in the background whilst playing Crysis 2 with max settings all without skipping a beat (or a frame in this case), why on earth would I want to get an xbox360? That would just annoy the crap out of me.

Thanks for the apology. I understand how frustration can make us do crazy things.
It won't help with BioShock 2, but let me clear up a few facts that might make your future decisions easier.
1.) Although 2K is on the box, two different studios were responsible for BioShock 1 and BioShock 2. BioShock 1 was created by Irrational Games (formerly known as "2K Boston"). BioShock 2 was created by 2K Marin. They are under the same umbrella, but they are two different houses. And each one made a different decision in regards to gamepad support.
2.) BioShock Infinite is being developed by the same studio that made BioShock 1, Irrational Games. That does not guarantee they will provide gamepad support, but it's a possibility.
3.) BioShock Infinite isn't necessarily a continuation of BioShock 2. We don't know much about the storyline, but the time period, location, characters, etc are all radically different from BioShock 2. So don't worry about missing a "critical part of the story line".
Maybe this information will help--in a small way--make your future gaming decisions easier. And if you ever want to know about support for things like the gamepads, just ask us here! We'll do our best to answer any questions we can.
Finally, I should warn you that mentioning the option of piracy--even casually--is absolutely not tolerated. Please don't bring it up again.
Well that does make me feel a little better, not missing part of the storyline. However, am still quite disappointed that I can't enjoy BioShock 2 huddled up on my couch as I had planned to do over the weekend and through till I had completed it.
I sure hope BioShock Infinite supports a gamepad or I'm gonna go nuts...
I don't pirate games, and I shall not mention it again. Apologies again.

It's all good, sir.
Let me make one final suggestion. If I were you, I'd take my request right to the source. Irrational Games has their own BioShock Infinite forum located HERE. Use their search box (located in the upper right hand corner) to look up "gamepad". There is an old thread requesting that very feature, but it hasn't had any activity in many months. I'd add a well-worded reply to that thread, bringing it back to the forefront. Maybe you can generate even more support among the fans.
Good luck!
Thanks. I may just do that
Tried registering there but my ISP's spam filter keeps blocking the confirmation emails.

Bought Bioshock 2 for PC on faith since the first one was good (not great but very good).
Now with a bit of hindsight I should have read more about the PC version of the game first.
Bioshock 2 singleplayer on PC is a bloody mess to be honest. The game is awful.
Just the number of keys needed are staggering.
8 Keys for plasmids, 8 keys for weapons, move, jump, crouch, use, hack, firstaid etc.
And on top of that I can't use my "use key" when hacking so had to bind yet another key for that. And sluggish controls on top of that. Blah
Doubt that I would have managed that number of keys even when I was younger and actively playing shooters online. Unless you have a plasmid that can turn me into a squid?
Had this been a generic shooter like the Quake/Doom/Unreal series I could have lived with it but expected Bioshock 2 to be more of a "tactical" shooter like the first one.
For me it's just impossible to fully explore weapon/plasmid combinations and thus enjoy the game.
Had xbox360 controller support with radial menus and no pause been implemented I could probably have lived with it, as it is now it's just another generic shooter with a story. This is the same ☺☺☺☺ i've played for the past 15 years or so.
Wont buy any 2k game on faith anymore. Wont buy it at all if it's developed by 2k marin that's for sure.
Ahh well. Tired as hell. Time to sleep for a while.

Everything will be cured with money. I would like to ask how much I (or other Bioshock fans) have to pay to get controller support?
Everything is possible with money and PC gamers are known for their Ultra high-end machines. Now those machines are in their living rooms combined with 50" or bigger tv's. I, like many PC gamers update my rig in every year or so. I also have Playstation 3 but its graphics are from 2005 and I only use it for Ice-hockey or some arcade games, but I always buy a game for PC over a console version (like everyone who owns a PC along with console).
No one, who have played a modern or even a 5-6 year old PC game cannot go back to dismal-looking console games, no matter how high points they get in reviews. They look outdated ....and thats understandable because consoles are PC:s from 2005 (Xbox360) and 2006 (PS3). Compare a cellphone from 2005 to a todays smartphones? Thats exactly how outdated games for consoles are.
Todays high-end PC's are at least 20 times faster than PS3 or Xbox360. In some applications hundreds times faster. And a big "hit" for PC gaming was "Games for Windows" program which made PC gamers dream finally come true; promise for xbox360 controller support for games. Which let us Play our games in our home theaters with BIG screen/projector. Unfortunately Bioshock 2 from 2K games was the first "games for Windows" game, which doesn't support games for windows controller. Hopefully last.
EDIT:
It doesn't make me sad I lost my money when buying this game. It made me sad because first bioshock was like a oldschool game which showed to industry/new gamers what a smooth and snappy gameplay really is.. Polished to perfection. Which means constant 60fps, ultra-playable controls and good graphics. Gaming industry doesn't really know what they do when they make their games 15-25 fps and the game still looks "sad". Greatest example is iPhone/iPad. Only thing those machines do better than anyone else is they are like Bioshock 1. Polished to perfection. Blazingly fast compared to rivals, and still look modern.
About the controller support.
It will took an average coder a 8 hours to do it -absolutely maximum. Then beta testing, which is none because Xbox 360 code will do. So basically copy-paste the xbox360 code and it will took about 15 minutes to an hour. Problem solved. Many people like things to work. Here we have 30 pages of ranting which have took at least 8 hours of work to write and answer. I bet one phone call or email should have bring a proper controller support at the first place. I really think the real problem is the developers do not know they forgot the support. This is very, very common in every industry today. One shy/lazy/"first day in the job" person in the chain and the message does not reach the right person.
I just finished playing BioShock 1. I bought both 1 and 2 on sale last month. I was so looking forward to BS2 then I start it up....NO gamepad support!!!
What The Freak is up with that?!?
If you can't afford to do the game right, don't bother. M+K are crap, especially for anyone new getting into gaming.
Like the other guy said,...I'll save my cash for companies that make games that have gamepad support. I won't be buying anything else from 2K until they fix this.
That's real shame. I re-bought both Bioshocks on Steam for a different experience now that I've grown attached to my wireless 360 controller. First one works really great. Tried to play the second... what a disappointment when I saw no option for it in the main menu. I really don't understand why controller support wasn't added while they were working to port over all the DLCs anyway. Or why it wasn't there to begin with. Reworking the UI for mouse and keyboard is good, but why would that necessitate removing the original controller UI?
Tried to using Xpadder but it wasn't really playable, there are simply too many controls needed, and emulating the mouse movement with the stick meant the aiming was a bit wonky, and I just died over and over again. Really hope Bioshock Infinite doesn't disappoint.
I think that there is hardware support for gamepads in bioshock 2 pc, just it must be activated in ini files
I was just about to purchase BioShock and BioShock 2 off of Steam. I always check to see if controller support is possible for a game before I buy it. Obviously BioShock 2 does not have controller support and many people are very upset. I prefer the controller over board and mouse. I am old. I was programming computers back in the 1970's and have spent a lifetime working with computers. I know there is a debate (often very childish) about which input is better. In the end, personal preference is what matters. As a business man I believe that the decision not to support controllers was a poor one, however I am not privy to the inside information that lead to that decision. I would have liked to purchase and play this series of games (the third one will be out soon), but with no controller support, I will pass. I understand the third party support for controllers leaves a lot to be desired. I joined the forum just to put my 2 cents in on this topic. 2K will choose to do what it wants in the future and their decisions will dictate whether or not I send them my hard earned dollars.
Just wanted to reply to this thread and state that I'm also disappointed in the lack of gamepad support for Bioshock 2. I bought this game for my PC (I also own an XBOX360) because the graphics are better. Now I'm forced to either not playing the game on PC, or buy the XBOX 360 version for 5 dollars. In any case, I'll be checking for gamepad compatibility on every 2K game going forward prior to making a purchase.
