2K Response about May 31st Release Date + Cenega explains what happened
2K has responded with the following about the May 31st Release Date:Now Cenega has also commented:We do not comment on Internet rumors.

For some reason I am not surprised.
That would be nice if Cenega is right about it being revealed soon. Even if it is a rumour, it sounds like a reasonable date.
I hope they reveal it soon. A date would be nice.

Exactly what "comment" has 2K ever made about Mafia 2 in the first place? In 5 years of development, we've had a handful of pix, a couple of videos, and a forum full of angry users.

I wouldn't consider myself an angry user and I'm not upset with 2K, however, I do have a feeling that Cenega may have been telling the truth. It seems like a valid leak. I can't imagine why an official distributor would lie about the release date and then cover it up later by saying they made a mistake. I don't see how they could have mistakenly given out the release date.Originally Posted by newhandle
From what I assume (and this is only speculation), I'd say they released that date which was correct while they thought that 2K was ready to release the information. 2K contacted them and reprimanded them for doing so, then Cenega apologized and said that they were "mistaken." Personally, I believe this could be the actual release date.

For some reason I do not trust this commnet "unveiled soon" at all...2K's definition of soon needs some updating....The so called goodies are coming our way soon for quite some time along with the new trailer on the comunitty...

i hope its not released in may. i get laid off on winters and have a lot of time to kill and would have spent $70+USD on mafia II for sure but if it comes out in may i will be back to work putting in long weeks away from home throughtout spring summer and fall so i might as well wait for next winter when i can get the game for $30USD.
This begginning to annoy me now. This is worse than the GTAIV Build up!

Why do people keep saying this... the game hasn't been in physical development for five years. The official announcement of it being developed was about halfway through 2007. Previously to that, all they did was work on the script and the story. So it hasn't even been three years since they announced it which is a good time frame to create a game in.I know how much money is in it,but im just saying....u know.....just rumors....5 years of development.......no news.......is starting to be real annoying....
Your wrong! It wasn't ANNOUNCED till 2007. It was first announced by Dan that it was in development then the past few years they were making the Illusion Engine. So yes it has taken 5 years..

Edit: If you want to get more technical and include the script writing, then its been in "development" since Mafia 1 first released for the PC in 2002. So its been almost eight years. xD

Haha, its funny how they say that its expected to come out for PC, Xbox, and PS2. But yeah, I never read that article before so I agree with you that the development of Mafia 2 was underway.

Oh well. I've been waiting 7-8 years since the first Mafia came out so I can wait a few more months (hopefully). A late May - early June release still seems like the most reasonable.
Well I personally think they'll announce the date at E3 which is on June 15th so they can build hype. Personally either we'll see a date in the end of July or in Fall....
Don't they usually announce a release date 2-3 months before they actually release the game? If they announced it in the middle of June, then we wouldn't see it until August or September.
