Bioshock 2 will be mediocre, we know Rapture.

    NOT.

I just had to make a thread on this. I've seen a lot of articles and/or opinions from people already down playing Bioshock 2 because it is no longer a mystery to us.

Personally, I don't think that will effect the game in any way shape or form. Just my 2 cents.

    Discuss my fellow Rapturians.

It seems to me the "problem" is the incongruity between the themes and style of the original game, and how a lot of people took away that the ONLY good thing from BioShock was how it was... well, new. That's got to be a pretty misguided view because these same people often praise the original for several things that have been improved, or are returning, such as combat and storytelling.

From what we've heard, BioShock 2 seems to present a familiar city in a way that makes it dark and fascinating still. It won't be the same as BioShock - no, that is impossible. Emulating the feeling of wonderment can't be done for anyone who has played the original. But BioShock 2 will stand or fall on its own merits, and that is what we must judge it on.

And we cannot judge it until we play it.

To be fair, this thread (as well as the one saying BS2 will be crap) are pointless.

Come back in 25 or so days.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's pointless. Its a forum of Shockheads. To discuss stuff like this from articles.

It's like therapy for me until it's released.

Oh OP :P I thought you be trolling!

The mods should be taking care of the troll threads I agree. And I also cant wait to take on some "mech warrior loving" haters.

    See, I'm not alone.

Talking about this stuff helps the anticipation for my favorite game in my entire life.

Excluding Super Mario 64 when I was young.

Yes, I don't think we can PROPERLY judge until the game is released. Personally, I feel Rapture being new and exciting for all players (noobs or seniors).

Well, technically it will take away from the game a little bit. But that's what happens in sequels. It always happens. The fact is it's not brand new. Doesn't mean the game won't be good because there are ways to compansate for that. Hopefully 2k will be able to do just that! That's my opinion.
Edit:I guess were kinda judging the game but it's not exactly the same thing. Judging is "this game will be the best game ever/worst game ever. Were just predicting whether or not the fact that Rapture is not new will affect the game at all!

I thought I'd bring this post over, as it shows my opinion of gaining information from previews/reviews.

I'd say you actually can get an understanding of the gameplay from watching 2-3 minute clips. I would say clips that are chosen to be shown in previews are chosen for two primary reasons. Either they're a prime example of the artistic style of a game, showing off how different aspects of the game will look, or they're examples of gameplay.

Gameplay is one of the primary reasons a person buys a game, so the developers try and showcase it as much as possible. I'll grant that you can't gain a truly definitive grasp of how the gameplay is going to pan out, as you aren't actually experiencing it for yourself, but the previews are there for a reason, to give a person a general sense of what it's going to be like.

I'll use the "mech suit" idea for an example. While you can't definitively say that you aren't going to be like a mech, from the videos we've seen, we should be able to tell that Delta is in fact quite weak compared to the vast hordes of splicer's that will be attacking him. We've seen him die numerous times to characters like the Brute Splicer, and Big Sisters, but we've also seen him die to normal splicers. Granted, it could have been inadequacy on the part of the player, but these people have been playing video games for a long time. I don't think they're your average gamer.

In short, previews and reviews won't give you a perfect sense of how a game will pan out, as they can be easily misrepresented, but they will allow you to make general assumptions on whether you like a game, and how certain things will turn out.

So do I. All we know is the basic Rapture knowledge. I've beat the game 90-120 times, I lost count. You may ask how in god's name did you keep playing? Simple. The atmosphere. Yeah it's that epic for me personally.

Even for me everything will be entirely new. New levels to explore, new characters, etc. Not too mention how much I can't wait to see Arcadia under water....
