why have a dvd if it won't let you activate

from what I understand, after two activations, the dvd version of Bioshock won't activate without emailing tech support and waiting for a response which could take days..What if you want to go play over at a friends house, isn't that why you buy a dvd. If it's no good after two activations, what's the point

I'm pretty sure that DVDs don't exist simply so you can play the game over friends, but as a way of using physical copy protection on software.

they don't confine you to one x box per cd, you play it on anyone you want to, I can't play the game without having a dvd in my comp, so why can't I use this on some of my other computers, if not , at least do away with the dvd requirement
