    360 Slight Freezing/Pausing Issues

As was mentioned in the Gamespot review, I have been experiencing frequest pauses of up to several seconds while playing the full version. I did not have these issues with the demo. Anyone else getting this or know a way around it?

  2. #2
frequest=frequent in the above post...oh edit button, where are you?

  3. #3
Just past boss achievement #2, lots of lockups (saving/loading/randomly), but no pausing.

  4. #4
I haven't had any lockups thankfully but the pausing is enough to make me not even want to play til it's fixed. Also caught a spoiler on another board while trying to see if anyone knew how to fix the issue so my enthusiasm for the game is diminishing rapidly.

Could look up how to clear the 360 cache, might help.

  6. #6
I tried the old "hold the A button while the game is loading" method from Oblivion and that didn't help. I just found out there's a different way to do it now so I'm gonna give that a shot.

Has anyone else having these issues? It sounds like it's your box dude. That or you got a bad disk.

Dang, well if you don't care for this game so much, I'm sure there are others who would appreciate it.

Well, I cleared the cache 3 times and I'm still getting the pausing. If it's my system I don't know why Bioshock is the only game I've had trouble with. I might try to take the disc to a friend's and see if it works fine on his system. Maybe that is it because I don't understand why the demo would run perfectly but not the full game.

It's not that I don't care for the game, I really want to play it...trust me.

Dam I just exchanged my Bioshock disc for another and it didnt help! My game pauses every 5 - 10 seconds and sometimes its a good 3-4 second long pause each time..Its basically unplayable like this, Clearing the cache didnt fix it either and every other game ive tried is working fine.. What gives?

    Something to try

    Hey Mathesar,

One thing you could try is replaying the first lighthouse level after clearing the cache, then reloading your save, to see if that makes a difference.

The problem mentioned in the GameSpot review tends to happen (we believe) when loading a new plasmid movie or a hacking minigame -- it shouldn't be happening all the time, which is I think what you're describing. If I misunderstood, feel free to clarify.

    Good luck!

Ok...took the disc to a friend's house at it worked fine. When I got home, I took out the hard drive, played the game and it ran smoothly. I put the hard drive back in and here come the pauses again. I have over 4 gigs free on the drive so space shouldn't be an issue.

Didn't see this when I posted my last message. Anyway, I deleted all my Bioshock saves, cleared the cache again, started a brand new game and then still got the pauses after exiting the bathysphere. So I guess my choices are wait for a patch or buy a new hard drive...

It happens all the time but only when moving around ,for example if I just stand there and watch people walking around / animations etc. it doesnt pause, but soon as I start moving it'l pause every 5 - 10 seconds, sometimes its a quick pause and a lot of times its a good 2 - 3 seconds of being frozen, the audio doesnt stutter or stop during these pauses.

It was working fine for the first few hours without any pauses but ever since they first started i cant get it to stop.

My 360 used to do this when it crapped out finally.

  17. #17

The demo worked perfectly for me as well. I'm pretty sure that the game is taking forever to load in textures from the disc and that is causing the hitches. Why it worked fine when I took my hard drive out is anybody's guess. I don't have any pausing like this in other games so I don't want to drop $100 on a new hard drive just for one game or lose my 360 for God knows how long by sending it back to Microsoft. We're both kinda of caught in a bad spot here...

mathesar: Forgot to ask this in the last post but have you tried playing the game with your hard drive removed?

I took bioshock to a friends house tonight and played it on his 360, On his it was fine for the first hour and then the pausing started happening!, can you believe it? At this point it has to be a bug in the game .. I mean what are the chances of 2 360's having the same problem and all other games work fine?

I will try running the game without my hardrive tomorrow (have to work early tomorrow and im exhausted), Ill report back tomorrow afternoon.

I only played at my friend's for like 20 minutes or so. The lagging started right away on mine and on his it seemed fine. Bought a memory unit and getting ready to see if that will work. I swear to Christ I am going to play this damn game without lag if it's the last thing I do...

  22. #22
Well, so far so good with the memory unit in and the hard drive out. Damn shame I had to spend an extra 30 bucks but I'm sure I'll use the mem unit for something else at some point down the road. Recovering my gamertag took a LONG time though.

Is that seriously the only solution to this problem? Has anyone from 2k commented on a possible real fix?

no one from 2K has addressed ANY 360 issues. they're all focusing on the pc version.

Does clearing the cache have any effect ?,

for anyone that does'nt know how,

Clear the Cache on the Xbox 360
To clear the cache on the Xbox 360 do the following:

Go to the Xbox Dashboard, select the System(Purple) Blade, and select Memory.

Highlight the HD symbol and press Y.

Press X,X, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, X.

You will see a confirmation message to confirm system maintenance, proceed.

Clearing the cache didn't do a thing for me either.

  29. #29
I've yet to have any issues with mine...

  30. #30
I do remember nearly every 2k game I've had has had a ☺☺☺☺load of bugs. You could'nt even play an inning in MLB 2k6 w/o a freeze. Just give them a week. They will eventually patch it.

  31. #31
I cleared the cache 3 times, deleted all my saves and started over to no avail. Only thing that worked was playing without the HDD attached. Anyway, I'm sure 360 is gonna be on the back burner with the ☺☺☺☺storm of PC problems they have on their hands.

Wow removing the hdd seems to of did the trick! I moved my profile and latest bioshock save to a memory card and then removed the hdd .. its been 30 minutes so far and no hitches, it was pausing like every 10-15 seconds before doing this, At this point I don't care at least I can enjoy the game now, Thanks for the tip

  33. #33
Just played it for nearly 4 hours straight (man time flies with this game) and no hitching / pausing, the memory card method definitely seems to be a good workaround for now.

  34. #34
Did you already have a memory unit or did you have to buy one? We should get some vids of the game hitching with our HDDs in and then demand 2K refund us for the price of the memory unit.

I'm sure there are a lot of people that have played the game without any issues at all. One friend of mine owns the game and has had no problems and I took my disc over to another friend's house and it was fine on his 360 too. It makes no sense to me either really. I mean everyone has basically the same hardware so why are these issues not happening to everyone? Who the hell knows... I also find it funny that Gamespot got raked over the coals by many for their Bioshock review but they were the only ones I know of that pointed out the technical issues in the review.

After 2 days, now it is freezing/pausing

There is something wrong, somewhere. I had NO problems at all for a couple off days (maybe 5 hours of play time) then I put in the game and now the game keeps stuttering/pausing for about a second or so. Very annoying.

I also get texture draw-in. For instance, there was a sign that was blurry. I walked up to the sign and the letter drew in and I could finally read it. Very slow drawn-in of the (textures?).

I suspect it might have something to do with caching, or possibly the save system. It could be my XBox is dying again. I have already had to send in my XBox in twice due to failures.

Nope I didnt have one and to make matters worse they only had the 8X memory units in stock (512mb @ $49!) I was desperate for a fix and didnt feel like driving around so I bought it anyhow

Luckily Bioshock is one of the best games ive ever played so im not to bitter about it ... Of course 2K still needs to fix this issue quickly as possible.

mine is doing the same thing. but mine frezzes well fighting and i end up getting killed. i hope 2k fixes it soon i don't have the money to go out and buy a memory card. i need to buy books for school soon plus i don't see why i would need to spend 30$ on a memory card when i have a harddrive hopefully 2k will patch it SOON!

    My problem fixed itself?

Hey guys I have been following this thread since I encountered similar problems Wednesday night. My problems began in Neptune's Bounty right when I stepped out of the bathysphere. The audio from Atlas would not play and the game began to freeze for a second or two every 15 seconds or so. So I tried everything that a lot of other people tried from loading old saves to starting fresh and nothing worked except removing the hardrive but I refused to buy a memory card that I will never use again.

Well time went by and I didn't play the game at all Thursday or Friday. Looked at the case on Saturday and decided to throw it in hoping maybe it was patched or something. Loaded my game up and it worked fine! The audio played at Neptune's Bounty and everything.

The only thing that has really changed with my system is I have downloaded a lot of demos. Blazing Angels, Madden 08 Medal of Honor and Ratatooie.

I don't know if that will help anyone but maybe it will encourage enough people to fire the game up again and see if it works. I will answer any questions to see if we can pinpoint what I might have done to fix the problem.
