    I.O.O.P. pawn pieces and code

    Even though neither of us received a telegram, mask, or IOOP card, both my girlfriend and I received the code letters with the pawn pieces just now.

    I received a brown pawn with E8 written on the bottom and a cipher symbol on the side. And the letter has "VI" on the top. Must be sections of a larger message since mine is different from hers.

    She received a tan pawn with F6 written on the bottom, and her letter has "IV" on top.

    It was delivered by the now familiar Speedy Brothers service:

    He did not arrive on a bicycle. We assume he had a car parked nearby.

    CRACKING THE CODE

    I believe each pawn has a grid code on it that corresponds with a Lutwidge symbol. Let's add them as people report them.

    *Red=Moves that were discovered via computer program,and are yet to be claimed.
    *Blue=Moves that have been confirmed and claimed with visual proof.

    A= G1,D2
    B= D3 (humangladiator)
    C=F1
    D=H6 (Berringer)
    E=C5 (Who_is_Andrew_Ryan?),C5,H3
    F=F5
    G=D8 (BronxBomber761),G4
    H=E4,H4
    I=E5 (Mithrandir), E7(sandman420), G4(Noelle Vague),E1
    J=F8
    K=E1 (Jakkaru)
    L=F7
    M=E2
    N=D6
    O=G6 (jake233), B7 (cyclos12)
    P=H1 (milestailsprowe, jaypeecee)
    Q=D7
    R=A7
    S=C8
    T=F4
    U=E8 (japester),B1,C7
    V=D5
    W=H4
    X=B3 (Boahazard)
    Y= D2 (I Would Kindly)

    Z=F6 (japester)

    The letters have a roman numeral header at the top.

    This section was discovered last, on 1-10-10. I am too lazy to transcribe it.

    The community came together and through a group effort extrapolated the following translation based on just a handful of letters. Of particular note were contributions made by Almarose, humangladiator, Grrkek, FalkorsRaiders, and magicman4443. (If I left anyone out, PM me.)

    Trust The Red Pawn Not
    Nor The Ink That Lies.
    Patient Did I Dwell
    In My Pillowed Cell
    'Til The Pawn Arrived.

    Red Pawn
    Robed In White
    Proffered False Degrees
    Droned In Theorems
    Juggling Serums
    Making This Decree

    Red Pawn Vowed The Vault
    Of Secrets Id Reveal
    Or He Would Capture
    Gold Of Rapture
    By Cutting Me With Steel

    Scalpel Wielded High
    Pawn Would Drain Me Red
    Desperate
    I Cried
    Orderly Replied
    Pawn Did Cut Him Dead

    In A Pool Of Blood
    Stood A Pawn Most Vexed
    At The Deed Hed Done
    Quickly Did I Run
    Before He Struck Me Next

    Now I Lurk And Hide
    Seeking Other Pawns
    Know My Guilts A Lie
    Guard Me On The Sly
    From The Knave I Spawned
    BiggerDaddier took the extrapolated letters from the above puzzle and placed them on an 8x8 chess grid. He came up with the following:

    _ _ _ - - - R _
    _ _ X _ _ - O _
    _ _ O - E - U S
    _ Y B - V N Q G
    K M _ H I E I U
    C _ _ T F Z L J
    A _ _ I _ O _ _
    P _ _ W _ D _ _

    "Pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs" is a pangram. It's exact meaning, though, is unclear.

    Cracked Codes
    *These are most likely irrelevant,primarily we thought that the pairs on the cards equated to the 8x8 from the previous puzzle.Of course that wasn't the case,instead it was the symbols on the pawns that were the decoders of the code. Although these probably don't mean anything i'm keeping them for future reference in the event that they do hold meaning.

    As Judge (and myself) both stated on the IOOP thread, we believe that the code is related to teh 8x8 (I have to go to work in half an hour and can't dedcipher anything *rage*), but what I believe needs to be done is moves on chess squares, as denoted by this image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chessboard on the 8x8 board. Hopefully this will help crack the cipher (unless we're completely wrong, in which case feel free to ignore it )

    Holy crap. I never recieved a membership card, but I just recieved a knock at the door. It was a guy in an old timey delivery suit and he had me sign for a lotter from the IOOP! In the envelope were a small plastic pawn piece with a star drawn on it with H6 written on the bottom, and a card with some type if cipher on it! Pics and transcription soon!

    I'll post this in the gift thread as well.

    It says: IV.

    Fixed the links. (I think Berringer and I both cut-and-pasted, which abbreviated the links. Heh.)

    Looks like the standard cypher. E8 stands for U (the two 8's next to each other). And F6 stands for Y (two parallel lines with a diagonal line across them).

    I'll have to go look at the chessboard...

    I don't think this uses the chessboard cipher.

    My first hunch is that we'll need all the pawns to decode this. Each pawn links a grid code like "E8" with a Lutwidge symbol. The letters are written using the grid codes. So we apply the Lutwidge code to the symbols, then cross-reference them with the grid codes used in the letters.

    (ow! my brain)

    Here is the pics of the paper with the cipher and the pawn with the number D8.
    The Cipher reads:
    D6B7H4H7E7H5F7C7A7E1B1G1D6H6A8E4E7H6C5,
    C8E6C5E1G4D6D8G8G6F4E4E6A7H5H1G1H4D6C8.
    E1D6C3H4G8E2D2H7D8E8E5F7F4'C8A2G1H3F7E7C5;
    D8C7G1A7H6E3E2E6A2B7D6G8F4E4C5C1C8F7D2
    F5A7G6E2H3F4E4E6A2e1D6G1D5C5G3E5B1C8H1G1H4D6E6H6.

    Seems like they're suppose to be sentences, since there are punctuations in there. Some sort of secret message.

    Copy and pasted this from the other thread. This is letter VI. if that helps anybody. *Edit* added another pic with the symbol on the pawn.

    I decoded japester's card (it had VI at the top), here it is:

    SHWEEAOHSLSSSPWQEPF,
    EEFLESEDMEQESATSWSE.
    LSLWDOEEEBDOE'EESNOEF;
    EHSSPEOEEHSDEQFFEOE
    ASMONEQEELSSEFNDSETSWSEP.

    Doesn't make much sense yet, maybe with the other cards.

    Translated it anyways,it might look like gibberish(what in SitS hasn't?),but you never know,it could mean something soon.

    Edit: I added a new section for the cracked codes on the first page.Also catgirl i put your up there as well.

    Here's something that might help with any future decodings, it was made with MS Paint so please forgive the quality.

    I'm thinking Japester is right on this one. When we get enough pawns, we can translate the pawns letter number combination into the lutwidgian symbol on it and find the letter it corresponds to. Then, we use those to decode it. Seeing as this is pretty much a basic substitution cipher, it might be possible to crack it through frequency analysis once we get a few more pawns.

    I agree we could do it if only we had a vowel or two and maybe two or three more letters.

    If the chessboard was the key, why write his standard symbols on the sides of each pawn? All we'd need is the "E8" or what have you written on the bottom, and we could look at the chessboard.

    We'll have to make sure and change the first post if I'm wrong.

    As people receive pawns, could you please cross reference the grid code on the bottom with the Lutwidge symbol on the side. KEY IS HERE. That will make it easier to update the first page. Thanks!

    There is an apostrophe in one our our letters, so my gf is guessing that the letter "S" follows that. So C8 may be "S".

    I got a delivery this morning, Chess piece (pawn) and a card, as follows:

    III.
    A7C5H6D1H1G1H4D6C1D5G6H4E6H6B1F4E4C5A1D5G1C7F7F4

    D3D2C2F1C7F4F4E5D6D8B2E2C5A2H4G4F4E4H3C8F4E6C5F7.

    Seems to be a string of Chess moves... my pawn was marked "E5" on the bottom. I have pictures of everything, but I'm not that technically inclined... can I send them to one of you and you guys post them?

    Symbol on the side of the pawn?

    (Edit: I will need to leave for a few hours, so another mod will likely take over updating the first post. I expect this to be cracked before I get back!)

    Are the pawns made out of plastic or wood? and if plastic, is it possible that they are hollow? also how big would you say that they are?

    Can you post a picture or a transcription of your code? II is one we still need.

    Several of us are from San Antonio. Sounds like we should have a BioShock party here in town.

    If you can type out the contents of your letter (since we don't have II. yet) and then tell us the code written on the bottom of your pawn and describe the symbol written on the side of it.

    Mine is wood. It's not exactly white, its a tan, but it's a representative of the "white" side of the board.

    I didn't tip the delivery guy... I feel real cheap... too damn excited. I looked up after signing and he was gone.
