people are already playing the pc version - what are you talking about??
Honestly, you should probably go with 360, if you hadn't figured that out yet

  3. #3
    Many people can't activate it.

  4. #4

great... now i'm paranoid... mine is on steam - another 2 hours before i can get home to try it out. hopefully activation on there will be smooth and easy, but with my luck it's not likely...

they have stated before that the steam activation and the box activation are 2 totally different things, so it's safe to assume that one not working will not affect the other... im ganna guess that steam is working fine, tho i am impatiently waiting for UPS to bring me my box...

Doesn't take much looking around this very forum to find lots of people with major crashing problems with the demo, and the full game will most likely have them too.

To the OP, if you're having technical issues, don't hold your breath, the issues have to be identified, fixed, then the patch has to be tested, so don't expect an imminent patch. A week maybe?

A week isn't really that long anyway, guys. I won't be able to play this on my 360 until about a week, so if it makes you feel any better, I'll suffer along with the rest of you.

Yeah, wasn't ready for release by the looks of it. Certainly the demo wasn't anyway. Makes you wonder about the decision to have an outside studio do the PC version rather than Irrational. Also 2K certifying both the release candidate and the demo - you've really got to ask how much they tested them and whether they used a wide selection of hardware.

Wonder if they saw Halo 3 on the near horizon and released anyway despite the problems.

    Absolute ☺☺☺☺☺☺☺☺.

the game runs fine. You probably have ten trillion icons in your system tray , dont know how to tweak or have a crap PC. I have a slightly above average PC but in no way is it High End and the Demo runs just fine 75-85 FPS on Max settings so you're just talking absolute crap

They're either drinking and laughing or madly working to fix the game. Either way, don't expect results immediately. They released the game knowing they'd be leaving a large portion of us in the dark.

There are still going to be the clipping glitches, but any game with any physics has that problem up to this point.

My system is 100% virus/spyware/adware free, all temps are 100% fine under load, every other game works perfectly, I have no extra crap running at all that shouldn't be running, I have a fresh install of XP, I always use driver cleaner pro in safe mode when changing drivers, and yet it still crashes.

And posts like yours just piss people off. Does it not occur that there can be issues that occur on some hardware configs and not others? To prove there's nothing wrong with my system, when I put my old ATI card back in half an hour ago, the demo didn't crash. So that rules out everything apart from game having issues with nvidia drivers under certain conditions. Also when I turn off High Detail Shaders on my 8800, again the game doesn't crash, which again rules out your theory about background tasks.

Ummm...dude I have a rockin comp and I got the black floor textures and glitchy vsync. This game is buggy. If it works great on your comp then cool, you're one of the few.

Group shot of Bioshock's BETA testers.

We've been duped. Tick-tock till a series of patches make it workable. Nice.

LOL! If you haven't noticed, you are massively outnumbered. The number of computers this game doesn't work on is significantly higher than the ones it does.

Every level has a new glitch or bug...
And they all seem unconnected to one another! I solve one in the second level a new one pops up in the third, with completly different 'simptoms'.

    It's maddening! Unplayable!

And it's especially irritating because when the game does work, it's really really good!

    >.<

It's typical for a software publisher. More often than not they're under control of the financial people. It's ready when the books say it is.

That aside, there's plenty of people without problems, but there's a bunch (myself included) who are having issues. Video runs excellent (and very fast), but EAX and surround (Audigy) is a wash, and can't get into the medical level. XP, current everything, optimized the services, clean system blah blah (this XP install is only 3 days old, that partition gets formatted every few days. Mostly a Linux user, I just keep XP around for some games that wont run in Linux) Haven't tried it in Vista yet, but I rarely touch that bloated turkey.

Have yet to see an official response.. at least let us know that they're aware of some problems. I need to stop buying games the day they're released ;D

Dolby Pro Logic worked fine for me. But not Eax.

In terms of release its probably because the suits were scared of Autumn Biggies.

I love how a bunch of idiots spout how their copies are working fine and just sit in a technical help forum to tell others this to attempt to prove a point that all is well in the world. Can you think of anything sadder?

If these people open their eyes, they can see that for every copy that works another 5 show a myriad of issues which 2K arn't bothering to help with in any way, shape or form. I understand that one may love Bioshock but this level of fanboyism is a little bit too much.

To be fair it's really hard to sit here looking at this forum and estimate accurately what percentage of owners of the game are having issues. Clearly it's a lot higher than most recent games, but to say that over 80% have issues is guesswork and IMO wide of the mark. Sure there's lots of people here and lots of posts, but that could still be just 10% of the total who bought it. People without issues aren't going to come here and tell us about it (apart from a few sad individuals).

I can assure you that there are plenty of people with problems that will never go to a forum either. some people will play the game as best they can and never speak up. some people will never get the game installed or get it running properly ever and not even give a ☺☺☺☺. I know people like this that have games they never got to work and just didnt care. My own opinion is that most people have at least one or two issues regardless of whether it bothers them or not. Even several reviews of the game mentioned issues like crackling sound or even complete lack of it.

But even those people are a minority. Most people who buy a product that doesn't work for them will seek help if they can't figure things out for themselves. Those that have no issues are unlikely to even realize what others are going thru unless it's by word of mouth.

Me personally, I've run out of ideas to get rid of my msvcr80.dll problem (short of a reformat, and if I do that, it'll be when I get a new system), so I'm waiting on 2K to come out with their patch. In the meantime, I can always play with High Detail Shaders off, but then everything just looks so bland. :/

Sure, but even taking that into account that still doesn't mean over 80% of people are having issues. By issues I mean show stoppers like crashing. The vast majority of people without issues will never visit this forum.

All I'm saying is you're completely guessing at numbers. The main PC help thread has 1300 posts, most people who posted in it did so more than once (I know I've posted in it 10+ times over my crashing problem) so let's assume that's 500 people with problems, let's say there's as many people again who made their own thread, and let's assume only 1 in 10 people with issues find their way to this forum (unlikely to be this low actually when everyone has the net these days), so you're still only talking maybe 10,000 people with problems, and for that to be 80% of all buyers - I think it's going to have sold a lot more than that, probably 10-20 times that number, especially with it's unavailability through illegal channels.

I agree it's a very buggy game, the buggiest since Ultima 9, and wasn't tested enough, I just don't agree with your particular numbers. I think if 80% had problems there would be far far more posts here.

Well Im telling you my experiences and observations. Only one person I know has ever went to a forum for help. Everybody else including family have games that they have never used because they would not work for them.

no but thats my point. theres are a ☺☺☺☺ load of people that just go out and buy a game without having a clue. I see people running games that artifacts or glitches and they are so clueless that it doesnt even bother them. most people actually dont go to forums or ever report bugs or problems and thats a fact. think of the hundrends of thousands of copies that are being sold and how many of those people are on this forum.
