My day started off picking up 2 strangers whom I'd never met just to attend the event. We were all coming from over 3 hours away and were connected by the thread of a Bioshock addiction. We had a blast on the drive down talking, speculating, and swapping Bioshock stories on the drive down.
We arrived in Chicago about an hour and a half before the event, which was good because it took ages to find affordable parking! After we had managed, though, we headed over to the local Subway and grabbed a bite to eat. We all got dressed in our costumes there, and headed to Navy Pier! The walk was very cold in costumes because it was only about 5 degrees and REALLY cold.
After searching for the entrance to the Family Pavilion on Navy Pier, we managed to find a way in through mc donalds. Upon entering the pavilion we were greeted by many other splicers, quite a few of which were in costume. We all sat around and made introductions and talked for about 10 minutes before this strange guy came up to us and asked us what we were all dressed up for. Upon telling him it was for a videogame, he said, "I don't like video games." When explaining to him why he'd like this one, he said, "I think I have something you'd like to see then."
Out walks Delta. Out walks Little Sister. Completely AMAZING costumes *I was most jealous of her syringe, I'd pay alot of money for that* and Delta's drill really DID spin. We got a 45 minute photo op. with them both. The little sister would walk around and occassionally say things like, "Look Mr. Bubbles, ADAM!" and "Splicer Mr. B, Get him!" It was increadible.
After our op. we took a shuttle to Lasalle's club in chicago. We met with the other 20ish people who were there from the 2k forums and were the die-hards. We all drank/ate on 2k's dime, including Rapture-themed drinks and some delicious appitizers. There was a costume contest where they gave out 2 increadibly life-like masks from the game. We sat around and socialized and talked with Promo Mike *Liz's double on events where she can't make it* and picked his head for secrets. Of course, he wasn't telling.
It was an amazing time, I wouldn't have missed this for anything. I am overwhelmed with how much 2k did for us!
