Unhappy GTA 5 might be announced at E3 how does this affect Mafia 2?

    According to CVG: http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=230532

Now this is no confirmation, but there is a chance (and a high one at that). Now I personally think that 2K will want to really show off Mafia 2 at e3 this year and really put all the spot light on it. Get the consumers really hyped up for it. But could it be over-shadowed with the announcement of a GTA 5?

It's unfortante but true that Mafia 2 will always be compared to GTA. It will be really sad to see a random person come up to Mafia 2 this june at e3 and say "hmm this looks alot like GTA 5"...and just pass it up.

2011 is what everyone guessing. Could you imagine if Mafia 2 got delayed another year and was released the same time as GTA 5!?

Well, everything is possible... But frankly I can't see Mafia II being delayed for another year, that would kill the game imo.

If you read the article it is just an analysts opinion so I am not gonna lose any sleep over it.

Anyway who cares about GTA5? Don't get me wrong I am a big GTA fan, but Mafia is just way better. Mafia II will beat it hands down, and get GOTY. GTA should take a lesson or two from Mafia, and start producing better quality games with regards to story line and realism. I still have not found another game that was able to immerse me, and keep me hooked as well as Mafia did back in the day.

Well yes, I think we all agree Mafia II will be way better than GTA V. But the raise of GTA V and quick release would be a real moral breaker for Mafia II fans (but that's just my opinion). As far as the influence on the game itself, it's like ddennis said: "who cares about GTA V?".

Here is some info. I found about the next GTA installment and the fact that it won't be in 2010 for sure. Look at the very last paragraph. This info. (The paragraph that I am referencing anyway) comes directly from Take-two's CEO Ben Feder. http://www.examiner.com/a-2378366~Ta...r_charges.html Now this doesn't mean that they won't announce it at E3 it just means that it won't be out in the next year. So Mafia II won't have any competition from them.

I dont give a flip about GTA5 because based on previous GTA titles, i already know what it will consist of: big explosions, unrealistic missions, and a lacking storyline. Anyone with a fully functioning brain in their head will realize that Mafia2 will be better than anything GTA comes out with. Unfortunately tho, many ppl will take GTA over Mafia because its the mainstream game and ppl like to follow the leader

I'm just going to say, people that over look Mafia 2 for the hypothetical showing of GTA5, will be missing a great game, and don't deserve to try it.

By the way, there's still possibility for a May release, so let's not get conclusions this fast.

like many other estimates we got before.....Fall 09, 1st Quater 2010, Summer 2010.

Everything is an estimate until they officially announce the month and day...then I'll be happy. Unfortantely I have a feeling we won't be seeing Mafia 2 until Halloween...

Well the next game from rockstar will be red dead redemption (27/05/2010) and there will be probably again 2 years in between for GTA V or rockstar will be like infinity ward that almost release each year a cod game.

I believe you are confusing game studios...

Infinity Ward does not release a game every year. Infinity Ward releases one game every two years. The Call of Duty series alternates between two different studios: Infinity Ward in Encino, California, and Treyarch in Santa Monica, California. Both studios each spend two years to make each game. However, Treyarch makes the crappy Call of Duty games, and Infinity Ward makes the good Call of Duty games. You should never confuse these two game studios because the quality of their products is vastly different. As a gamer, you should pay close attention to which studios make what game as you can usually determine the quality of the product in advance.

Grand Theft Auto IV is made by Rockstar North, a British studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. In contrast, Red Dead Redemption is made by Rockstar San Diego in California, USA. Two different studios with different personnel and different skills. One studio is staffed by drunken Scots, and the other studio is staffed by American yuppies.

A common example of people confusing game studios is the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic. People mistakenly believe the game is primarily designed by BioWare Edmonton (in Canada) who made Knights of the Old Republic and Dragon Age: Origins. This is incorrect. Star Wars: The Old Republic is primary designed by BioWare Austin (in Texas), a new studio composed of the ex-designers from The Sims Online. BioWare Edmonton merely supplements and advises the BioWare Austin studio. As a result, if Star Wars: The Old Republic sucks, remember that it is designed by a different studio with different personnel and different skills in a different nation.

Most gamers would be less excited about Star Wars: The Old Republic if they knew it was designed by the Texan idiots who made The Sims Online instead of the Canadian geniuses who made Knights of the Old Republic.

Paying attention to game studios is very important: Max Payne 1 and 2 were made by Remedy Entertainment, a Fennoscandian studio in Espoo, Finland. Max Payne 3 is being made by Barking Dog Studios (shrewdly renamed Rockstar Vancouver), a different studio with less-talented designers. If Max Payne 3 sucks, it is because a different, less talented studio made the game. Most Max Payne fans know that Remedy Entertainment's "Alan Wake" will be the better game than Max Payne 3 because it is made by the better game studio.

Imagine if Mafia II was being made by 2K Play instead of 2K Czech. The game would stink. Both studios are part of 2K Games, but they have different personnel and different skills. 2K Play makes crappy games, while 2K Czech makes good games.

Dude, that explains a lot, I really didn't know that! How do you know where a game is developed? Is it on the box of the game or do you find that information on the net? Thanks for telling this man, this way I'll be able to select my future purchases way easier.

edit: By the way, those "drunken Scots" did make the map of GTA SA. I'm not a fan of GTA but you've got to give them credit for the San Andreas map .

GTA 5 might be announced at E3 how does this affect Mafia 2?
imho, not at all. (although i am sure they won't want to release Mafia II around the time of a GTA game since it could impact sales since GTA series seems to be the most popular of the genre (notice how i said 'most popular' and not 'best game' )

basically GTA4 fixed what i always complained about with the prior games which was it needed updated graphics as prior to GTA4 the graphics of the games where quite outdated. but now that it was fixed in GTA4 i don't think there's much else the game can improve on to make it 'noticeably' better than the previous games. because even if they tweak a few things, GTA5 will be pretty much the same as GTA4.

so in that sense... i don't think Mafia II has to worry about GTA5 AT ALL overall and surely characters wise, Mafia II i am sure will be miles in front of the GTA games because even to this day i still prefer the original Mafia game (on PC) over any of the GTA games because it has better story/characters/gameplay AND i replayed it many times unlike GTA games which i only beat once and i never really bothered to come back to.

because even if Mafia II was almost the same as the original Mafia... the updated graphics alone would make it feel like a entirely new game. so basically with the updated graphics and a new quality story with new characters should make it feel noticeably different from the first game and hopefully keep the greatness of the first game to.
