    Problem with Vsynch

In PC game when i enable Vsynch i am locked to 60fps and the framerate often go down to 30fps...

But my screen refresh rate is 75hz and in others game with Vsynch i am locked to 75fps...

Why it don't work with 75hz refresh rate but as 60hz???

  2. #2
Maybe the game defaults to 60Hz ingame.

60hz makes my eyes hurt over long periods lol. I use catalyst control centre to force 85 in all games.

I have this EXACT same problem although my screen is always 85hz. However I am running vista 32bit and decided to try the game in dx9 mode by right clicking on it... and....

Yes you guessed it it works correctly under dx9 mode going to 85hz making the game play MUCH smoother because also the framerate is avaragely MUCH higher like 15-20 fps at least and with no visible difference in graphcis quality.

So IF you run Vista as well give it ago under dx 9 mode (disabling the option alone in the options menu won't do the trick I tried that as well)

Dude give me one screenshot of comparison where one can noticably see the difference. Its al between your ears and right now this seems to be a bug in the game so I think in a future patch they will fix it as there is no reason why the game should have problems with v-sync in dx10 mode

Well... that's a problem i don't have with using DX9 mode. Dunno what is causing that but it can't be the DX9 mode as it works fine here and that's why I said why there is no visible difference between dx9 or dx10 as it should be like that

Sorry if that has been posted elsewhere, but the refresh rate of the vsynch can be changed in the demo.

Go into your BioShock demo folder then navigate through Builds and Release. Locate the config file Default then open it with notepad or a text editor of your choice.

Look for the section [D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice] if your using DX9 or [D3DDrv10.D3DRenderDevice10] for DX10. Under both of these sections there is the option to change the refresh rate, DesiredRefreshRate=60 is what its defaulted to. Change the number to the desired refresh rate and voila.

Hope that helps anyone thats having problems with the vsync.

I've found another simple temporary workaround for the DX10-VSync-60FPS-30FPS-Problem:

Simply ALT-Tab out of the game and back in, et voila, your frames won't dip magically to 30 any longer. Checked with Fraps on my 8800 GTX. You'll only need to do this once while being in the game.

    Hope that helps for now.

This is an issue with DirectX. Download Refresh Force and set your overrides.

And if you are getting the 30-60-30-60 thing when using vsync, it means that triple buffering is disabled. Open the Nvidia control panel, go to manage 3d settings and set triple buffering to enabled. The game still has to support it though, which Bioshock does, but you still have to allow it in the driver.

Huh ok... I didn't knew that I will try it out as I have that exact problem in DX10 mode. I don't understand anyway why this happens only under dx10 mode :/

This doesn't work for me. If I do that the game opens up in windowed mode and crashes afterwards Thanks for the tips though. Glad to read I am not the only one with these things
