No pun intended (if you want to call that a pun...) But lets say you have the budget of $1500 and you were going to buy a computer, what would you put into it?

Really depends on if you're wanting DX10 support or not.
One of the G80 video cards (the 8800's), even the cheaper models of it would do.
So that's the first priority.
Then...i'd get some sort of dual-core CPU such as an Intel Core2 Duo e6600 or e6700 and a Foxconn, Asus, or MSI Socket LGA 775 motherboard
2 gigs of DDR2 RAM (g-skill is a good, affordable brand)
a soundblaster audigy 2 or 4 (cheap, older, still good)
I'd get a nice and roomy case with good air flow in case I wanted to attempt an overclock with air cooling

my personal preference as far as hard drives go, are put your OS on a small, really fast drive then get a separate big drive for storage. So a 30 GB 10,000 RPM Western Digital Raptor would do.

You could build pretty mean machine for $1,500.
