Top 10 scariest rooms/levels/places in Bioshock

Post your Top 10 scariest rooms/levels/places in Bioshock and why they scare you *optional*

10: The Lighthouse - I always had a weird feeling in every playthrough that someone was in ther with me. watching me.

9: Arcadia - I hated the Houdini Splicers there. They seem to have a backstory yet they were shady figures. That one hallway with the Splicer Running....running away gets me. Then she dies.

8: Fort Frolic: It's very dark and eerie. Yet light in a creepy weird way.

I Don't have anymore for now

Scariest place was Fort Frolic for sure. I literally shot ANYTHING that moved or made a noise (Yeah, that's how I died during my first Hard playthrough after I accidently shot a Bouncer Big Daddy.) I also was scared almost sh*tless when you pick up that Audio Diary in the Medical Pavilion and the Thuggish Splicer is right behind you. Shot that f*cker full 'a lead, I did.

The corpse hanging room in the Farmer's Market creeped me out big time. Something about there not being anything to pickup in there made it even creepier.

Other time would be my first attempt at using the Hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid. Something about him running right behind me even though he was helpful, and then worrying about how to tell when he stopped being friendly, and trying to re-hypnotize and finding out I couldn't. Kind of a series of "Oh, crap!" freak outs.

I can't believe the Dentists office hasn't been mentioned yet. When you get in their and go to get the tonic on the desk, You turn around and ther is a splicer Right infront of you, just staring at you. It gets me almost every time I do that level.

In my most recent playthrough (on hard), I just casually turned around and blasted my shotgun in his face, killing him instantly, never blinking, while listening/reading Suchong's diary.

I meant the same thing as magicman4443 did. When I picked up the Audio Diary, he showed up.

    My top two:

    - Back in the morgue where you see the shadow on the wall and then the lights go out...and the shadow is gone. I always know whats going to happen but it still freaks me out.

    - The part when you pick up the shotgun. THe lights go out....there's quick footsteps all around you but you can't see anything...splicers begin to laugh at you. Then the lights come back on. No one. and then BOOM! You're hit from behind and the attacks begin! haha. Basically, anytime the lights go out on you freaks me out

Fort Frolic creeped me out quite a bit. The Splicers posing as the plaster corpse "sculptures" freaked me out a little.

The Splicer hiding behind a coffin earlier in the game, the Splicer/doctor who pops out of the cabinet after the lights go out. And for some reason, the ones who sing "Jesus Loves Me" and "Amazing Grace" creep me out, too.

A lot of this game had me freaked out. Then again, I did most of my Bioshock gaming after midnight.

What about when you are near the Tennis ball machine, and you come across the guy that makes the entire room foggy. And then you pick something up, and the whole room goes foggy and you turn around and he's right in front of you... That part freaked me out a bit. lol. I forget where in Rapture it took place.. but i'll find out.

When you get the research camera and you go in the interrogation room taking pics of the splicer there. It feels like he's going to hear you and then blast through the ceiling and keel you!

The bit in Fort Frolic with the living plaster splicers still gets me even after my 36th playthrough.

Hey guys, I'm new around here, but I'm still as entitled to post in here as anyone else, right?

Well, I haven't played much of the game yet (so I scrolled down through this topic as quickly as possible) but here's some moments that scared me:

1: When I went into the lighthouse the first time, when the lights came on, I was looking right at (the statue of) Andrew Ryan's face. That made me jump.

    2. The first time I played this game, when I went into the bathrooms in Kashmir Restaurant, I didn't encounter the Splicer in the toilet. But then, the second time, just as I was about to leave, WHAM! The toilet door flies open and a Splicer comes out. It was so unexpected.

    3. In the Medical Pavillion, in one of the dentist's room, as I entered the room, it filled with smoke, and a corpse that wasn't there before was lying on the chair. I got the audio diary in there and the room filled with smoke again. "What is it THIS time?" I wondered. So I turned around, and there was a Splicer. RIGHT. THERE. I actually screamed.

The second time I went in there (on a different playthrough), I thought "Well, I know what will happen this time, I'm prepared" and then the room filled with smoke, I turned around and, for some reason, I screamed. Again. The last time I screamed while playing a game was when I was 6. And that game was Super Mario. Bros.

    4. Last but not least, also in Medical Pavillion, when you enter the Dental Services, there's a shotgun just lying on the floor, waiting for someone to take it. And so I did. I took the ammo as well, because what use is a gun without ammo? Then the lights turn off and a small little spotlight turns on, allowing me to see a small part of the room. Then several Splicers ambush you. After about 10 Splicers, the lights turn back on and you can see all the corpses of the Splicers lying around you. It's not so much of a scary moment, but more of a "Oh ****, oh ****, oh ****!" moment.

Yeah, Bioshock's a pretty scary game.

yea i would have to say the scariest time was i think in Hephaestus and you go in this like corridor with all these pumps and then the lights go out and u hear like people running around and then the lights go back on and you take like 10 more steps and the lights go out again and u hear like people talking and stuff and then lights go back on and u walk to the door but right before you get their all these splicers like bounce up and like it scared me soo much!!!

I have a new one to add to the list: Twilight Fields funeral home. Need I say more? Well, OK then...

First things first, I walked in there, grabbed some items from the reception and then went over to the left side of the room. There was a coffin lying on a table. The freaky thing was: as I got closer, the coffin suddenly fell off the table and a splicer jumped out from behind. Now THAT made me jump.

But that's not the worst part: the worst part is in the morgue. As I entered, there was some water to the left. I went into the water and saw a shadow on the wall of someone cutting up somebody on a table. I approached closer, thinking "I'll kill this guy and loot his body" when suddenly, the lights turn off. All I heard was footsteps. I almost cried. Seriously, if you were in a morgue, you saw some doctor cutting up somebody, and then the lights turn off, what do you do? You pray to the gods above that doctors can't see in the dark.

So they come back on, and the SHADOW IS GONE. I turned around, expecting the man to be behind me, like a certain dentist that I mentioned before. But no luck. I had no idea where he was. So I walk over to the corpse that he was cutting up. The lights are slightly dimmed, so I cannot see the corpse too well. Then the light suddenly becomes brighter and the corpse is staring right at me. Needless to say, I needed a new pair of underpants.

So I got the hell out of there, my mind racing like hell. And because my mind was racing, I forgot all about the doctor and his disappearing act. So imagine my horror when I walked towards the exit, and suddenly the doctor jumped out of a storage space. I actually woke up my next door neighbours (oh yeah, forgot to mention, I was playing this at about midnight). I mashed RT like I had never mashed RT before, ran out of the funeral, saved, turned off the Xbox and hid under my blanket for the rest of the night.

Game isn't that scary, but a few things happened on my last playthrough a few weekends about that were a little jumpy.

    1. I used proximity mines on a big daddy, apparently one missed or something. But I was playing the level(in Fort Frolic), then about 10 minutes later my screen freezes as it does when a big daddy is charging you, and I just got slammed in the back and thrown into a wall. The mine was around Eve Gardens, and I was at Cohens Masterpiece when he attacked, didn't think he would stalk me that far lol.

    2. In Hephaestus, I needed one more lil sister and I saw a big daddy banging on a vent. I was on an elevation so I thought I had an advantage for a few shots. I grabbed some gas tanks and placed them behind me for the battle. I picked up the first one and threw it at the big daddy, I did a quick 360 spin while picking up the other gas tank and when I finished the rotation the big daddy was in my face. Took me like 1 second to spin around, and he was like 40 feet away. No idea how he got to me so quickly. Freaked me out to just see him staring at me inches away in such a quick time.

It's kind of scary at night. So all the rooms/levels. Except the one with the robotic shark.

I think the scariest was when I went into the Tea Gardens and I saw one of the Houdini splicers running around, I didn't know what he was, anyway i go over to the table that has one of those masks with antlers on it and I'm looking at it and then I look up at the wall and there is a shadow. I whip around and this guy just goes "HI" real quick and then runs away telling me to follow him. This kind of freaked me out. Then I followed him upstairs where he then tried to kill me so I killed him first.

Yeah, that was freaky. He went "Hello there, beautiful!" for me before exploding into a cloud of dust.

Yet more scary moments for me: Fort Frolic. The room with the statue facing the corner made me jump. I upgraded my pistol at the PTTP machine before turning around and seeing a statue just fricking STANDING there. I put my new upgrade to the test, though, and slaughtered him.

And the wide open room with several mannequins was scary. After the 'statue' scare, I was scared of anything that didn't move so I knocked over all the mannequins. Then once I got that tonic and turned around to see statues taking the place of the mannequins, I went into full-out panic mode and just shot at anything that moved for the rest of the level.

i only ever got scared 3 times and only in my first playthrough

In painless dental with the fog guy
in hephaestus with the two spider splicers in the room with the dead BD under a waterfall thing
And the Bunny hop diary made me turn off the game, Before that i thought cohen was awesome

Another thing i learned for "Pop out" moments, Never fear, Natural camo is here!

  30. #30
What do you mean by the Bunny hop diary that may have been one I didn't find. I've only played through this game once when I borrowed it from a friend, a couple of weeks ago. After finishing it, I have to say Bioshock is probably my favorite game ever, which is why I'm preording Bioshock 2. Anyway thats why I probably haven't found that diary.

The scariest of all in Bioshock was Fort Frolic with the plaster splicers. I only figured them out in the hardest difficulty and they were scary by one factor... They had no audio files in them. They would sneak on me and deal a major blow(I always rescued the little sisters so this made it twice as difficult for me) with me only knowing by Jacks hellish screams. After that 2 hours of hell i always look behind my back before doing anything(even in the end of each level) I never want to do that level again

As for the scariest part defintely the plane crash...

there are some...''jumpy''..moments and freaky places in Bioshock..but the whole game isn't scary...matter of fact the places I think are the scariest/freaky-est are the Med. Pavillon, because of all the blood everywhere,it looks like it was a setup for a slasher movie

Also I feel creeped out in Apollo Square and the place where Suchong's ;ab is just from the background noises...and also I just get a general creeped out feeling when wandering around Poseiden Plaza in Fort Frolic, and that's WITHOUT having to worry about the white spider splicers Finally,I get creeped out in Hephaestus when I just wander around after surging the core...so dark lol

Also, the first time I played Bioshock it freaked me out in Arcadia when the houdini splicer appears behind you in that one room when you're facing the wall, then you turn around and he says ''Hello goofball'' or something and disappears, then I feel like I should be waiting for him to appear behind me again and cut me down or something

Complete the photo research on the Houdini splicer, and you'll find it much easier to tell where they'll teleport next, and I mean much easier.

I think ten is a bit too much, considering there are about 10 levels. But since we can include rooms, places, etc, I'll try:

    1. The creepy morgue in Medical Pavilion
    2. The canal in Arcadia
    3. The room in Medical that fogs up when you walk in and then there's a creepy doctor behind you...
    4. Definately the big basement in Fort Frolic
    5. Sinclair Spirits, of course...

Hmmm....can't think of more at the moment...
