I've said it once before : 2K doesn't need to give us anything but a game.

On another note... thanks to 2K! Everything was awesome. The location, the excitement and the turn out. I wanted to say hi to Elizabeth but she left so quickly. Also, it was great meeting so many cool people. Parasite and I went to the little diner on the corner to get a cup of coffee with lots of sugar in it before we went our separate ways, and I'm still cold, haha. But it was great. I also took some pics before my camera decided to fall asleep, but did get some video on my flip. Kudos to the level of creepiness from the little sister. She had th part down packed. It was nice meeting all of you. Well, most of you. Swami, I'm sooo curious. Parasite and I were talking about you and wondering if you showed. No turban though. Tsk tsk.

First off, the event was called for 12:00. If you wanted to be there badly enough, you should've left earlier and not shown up at 12:20. I showed up a little after 9:00am because there was no way I was missing anything. After showing up late for the bottle event, I ended up with ZIP. Anyway, I guarantee your feet being cold is NOTHING compared to standing on a pier for three hours in a friggin' dress. I was in no way disappointed with leaving with a tee shirt. And if you are still so annoyed and upset for sitting on a warm train for three hours while I stood shivering in the rain for three hours, and only getting a tee shirt from a fan, then tell you what... you feel free to email me so I can give you my address so that you can SEND IT BACK TO ME! Because the other 40 something people there didn't offer to give you theirs.

Taking a breath and going to read the rest of the comments now.

I'm sorry I didn't get to say hello to you! I am sadly under the weather and I wanted to make sure my Little Sister got safely into her vent.

Vent???!??!?! VENT?!?!!?!?!? IT IS A HIDEY HOLE LIZ, A HIDEY HOLE!!!!!!!

Ha, I would really like it if 2K did a few open to the public release party events, where everyone could dress up like splicers and whatnot when the game comes out.

Feel better, and I hope it didn't take her too long to warm up. Poor thing was shivering. I saw you once before but didn't talk to you at the bottle event. I kind of wish I had because I heard you were nice enough to take down names and stuff, but still another fun event and I was happy just to be there. Again, feel better soon!

Agh, Liz, I didn't even see you period. Who am I kidding, I'd have been too shy!

To those curious, I do not show up in any of the pictures currently displayed on the forum. I seriously don't even know how. :S

I am uploading some of mine momentarily though, and I may have a youtube video up in an hour or two! (I'm not good with this stuff.)

This was my first Bioshock event, and I really enjoyed myself! For those who were expecting demo footage or some huge, epic surprise was most certainly expecting too much. While the weather was not the best, ironically it fit with the mood of the event and I think 2k did a great job in relocating.

I came about twenty minutes late (I had a rolling red luggage, haha) and I was so happy to see the Big Daddy and Little Sister. The costumes were fantastic, they were so cool to watch and interact with and meeting other fans was really fun. Because there was not as many people, I think it was wonderful that many people were able to walk away with a couple of t-shirts. I for one had no idea what to expect at all, and didn't even really want to guess because these events are all about surprise. I find it amazing how immerssive the marketing promo for this game has become. I've never seen another gaming company do something like this, which probably is why I appreciate the game (and the fandom!) much more.

I'm terribly excited to start working on my own Splicer costume (with grungegeetargod as a fellow Splicer) in the coming weeks. Thanks 2k, you're awesome! (Omg and kudos to the actors. That little sister was in character the entire time despite her being so cold.)

    Sounds great.

Look I don't know the details but for those who attended and are complaining about it, you guys should reconsider your perspective. There's lots of us who would love to have participated but responsibilities and distance weren't permitting. I would GLADLY suffer New York rain for a bit to attend something like that. But I have to sit here in Texas and watch all you east coast cool kids get all the action.

Be glad that the people responsible for the game are even having events like these. They are unheard of in the gaming world and they are outstanding. If you're lucky enough to actually be there you should appreciate it.

Thanks for everyone who attended for giving us ample details.

She's mostly singing the "Mr. Bubbles" nursery rhyme song. I'm uploading a video buuut I muted the sound.

Sorry! It's, for the most part, the song and some lines from the first game. "Let's go find some ADAM..." along those lines, you know?

So the event sounded pretty cool but I think the thing that I'm most bummed about missing is the opportunity to meet some of you guys that I've gotten to know over the forums (though I probably would have missed Epstein, what with him reveling in his secrecy ).

Oh well, I look forward to at least hearing your voices on LIVE come February.

There's a good amount of pictures for you. I left out the extremely blurry ones. You'll still notice though that some aren't as clear. You need to give me credit - I had no gloves and had NO feeling in my hands and fingers; absolutely numb all over. It was tough to keep that camera still.

When I compile all of my footage and edit it a little (not too much, I'm only using WMM D: ), I'll alert you guys when I stick it on youtube.

NO, I AM NOT IN THESE PHOTOS.

But thanks for the pics and the vids everybody! I had fun being there through them. Nearly died from happiness when I saw Delta. Does anyone have a vid with sound though? It would be great to hear Delta's noises. This event was sooo awesome!

Hey Vengence, I saw you a few times. You were under the black umbrella with FoxyMark, am I right?

Video is done uploading. For the most part, it's muted, but I included some sound around the last 2 minutes. I didn't talk, so it was OK.

The beginning is incredibly wobbly. I didn't realize how much I was shaking my camera. It's like I was having a seizure. Sorry about that, but it DOES get better!

    Splicers Unite! Part One

    PART ONE:

Hi all! The following is my writeup of the entire experience that took place on Saturday, December 5, 2009! As with my previous writeup of the Jones Beach event, I'll break it down into sections so you can skip the boring bits if you want!

    How it began:
Well as most of us know, a post was made by 2k Elizabeth on www.CultofRapture.com that simply said, "Be at Pier 54 in New York City at noon on Saturday, December 5th." Well, we all gasped at the possibilities. Immediately FoxyMark (a member of the forums here) and I began making our plans for the trip! The night before I packed up my various devices (cameras. cell phones and whatnot) and my suit and headed over to FoxyMark's house to spend the night. The plan was to leave as early as possible. Being latenight people that means like 8AM.

    Getting there:
We got up and loaded into my car right on time! I generally know my way around the city so we didn't really need that much in the way of directions but we had a garmin along with us just in case. As we made our way down the New York Thruway we discussed the possibilities and things that the event could be. Having been to the Jones Beach event we made sure to go in with no expectations in particular because 2k has a way of surprising us! Once we passed into New Jersey we the entire world went black and white. Yeah, New Jersey is a hellish place where God accidently hit the "desaturate" button when he photoshopped it. At one point a strange toll collector said, "Good job," to me when I pulled up. I have no idea what that was about. We stopped at a confusing little rest stop filled with "I Love NY" merchandise (Oh the irony!) and made our way to the Lincoln Tunnel. Once in the city and in sight of Pier 54 we took the 14th street cutoff and made a quick right where we immediately found free parking! (Thank you Google Street View!) A short walk and we were there: Pier 54.

    The Waiting Game:
When we arrived, a small group was already waiting. FoxyMark and I made eight. It was drizzling a tiny bit but it hadn't really begun raining yet. The folks there exchanged some hellos and whatnot and Mark and I began to walk around the pier a bit. Nothing too interesting to be said about the pier. It was long and covered in asphalt. Basically a big parking lot. The front of the pier, as can be seen in the photos on the web, had a large metal arch from the original buildings. It still bore the names of past companies that operated there; the most interesting being White Star Lines. Pier 54 was where the Titanic was supposed to dock when it arrived in New York. Instead it was where the Carpathia brought the survivors.
The old metal gates of the pier were chained open and there was a large set of pipes and valves right next to the entrance. Nothing terribly interesting but it had the look of a place that had passed its prime a long time ago. The pipes were slightly Rapturian but that's about all.
After a little while the rain really began coming down and the wind picked up. I was very thankful for my umbrella and gloves! Still, the wind got heavy enough to blow the rain in sideways once in a while. Everyone was shivering and shuffling their feet to keep warm. I'm kind of a big guy and I had a nice big overcoat so I wasn't in bad shape but FoxyMark is cold-blooded.
We began to analyze every person that walked through gates. Any one of them could be 2k. MrTiddlywinks showed up in an impressive one-eyed splicer outfit complete with wrench. Another girl came dressed as a little sister. She had to be freezing but she looked the part! As time grew nearer we were sure that each person that came by was going to be the one. Nothing. Nobody. People were getting antsy. Then 12 rolled around...

    Splicers Unite! Part Two

    PART TWO:

What we were all waiting for:
Yes, 12 rolled around and...nothing. Nobody there, no helicopters landing, no trucks pulling up, no bathyspheres rising from the depths (as if anyone seriously thought that would happen). Nothing happened, until 12:05! A couple of guys rounded the corner wearing splicer masks. I began to say, "Now that's an awesome splicer mask!" when one of them addressed the crowd. "Everyone, we're going to move and get out of the rain," was the gist of what he said. (He was very muffled through that mask.) Everyone advanced with a cheer and began to follow them off the pier and down the street. We crossed a couple of intersections and walked right by my car. (We could have waited in my car the whole time and stayed warm! Doh!) They brought us to an overhang where we were treated to an amazing view:

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/4128866...45871/sizes/l/
One of the splicers that escorted us to the location.

A full-suit Prototype Big Daddy and a Little Sister to boot! They were perfect! The PBD suit was fully metal as I came to find out. At first glance the drill looked plastic as did a few other little things but upon closer inspection it was clear they were definitely metal! There was a light on top of the helmet and there were Adam and Eve tanks on his back. The suit even made the typical groaning and wailing sounds of a big daddy! Amazing! The drill looked cool until he turned it on and then it was just incredible! It spun around with a satisfying whir and made quite the impression on the crowd. The suit was definitely not as big as the suits of the big daddies in BS1 which in my opinion gives us some insight into the gameplay of BS2! He won't necessarily be the lumbering creature that some feared he would be. He could definitely fit in some tighter spots than you might imagine!
The Little Sister was just creepy beyond words! She skipped and frolicked around, often singing to herself (so unsettling) or calling to the big daddy in that sing-songy voice. "C'mon Mr. Bubbles! Let's look for adam!" She looked so tiny standing next to the big daddy and her dress was soaked in blood and grime. Her face was so pale and gaunt looking, just like you'd expect. Her adam needle looked so cool! It was perfectly modeled, down to the blood still on the tip! One of the most interesting aspects of her outfit was the bright blue butterfly on her shoulder! We've all wondered about that butterfly from the trailer and here it was sitting on the Little Sister! Very nice touch!
Everyone got their pictures taken with the Big Daddy and Little Sister. When the splicers would get near she would cower being the big daddy. They played their parts perfectly! He protected her and she would dart behind him and peek around, just like the game. I just can't adequately explain how creepy she was. So scary looking but she acted just like a normal little girl. Skipping and smiling. Nightmarish. Amazing.
That went on for a while until it was time for them to get out of the cold, wet rain. Folks from the shops across the street were mostly just staring, dumbfounded. One woman came over and asked, "Hey, what's going on." Someone briefly explained and I don't think she understood because she just kinda said, "Oh. Okay." and walked away.

    MAN she's CREEPY!

    The Swag:
A few minutes after we arrived at the Big Daddy folks began queuing up for the swag. It became apparent that it was shirts when the 2k folks (Not sure if they were really 2k or just helping out) began calling out sizes. They called out my size and I got what looked like a HUGE candy wrapped in paper. In reality it's a metal can wrapped inside a paper that has the "Splicers Unite!" logo from the Cult of Rapture post. The paper (once I get the wrinkles ironed out) will make a nice poster to go along with the others I've got already! Inside the can is a black t-shirt with the circular logo on the front. The back of the shirt is the real prize: a butterfly made out of tiny handprints! It looks REALLY cool! Beneath that is the "Bioshock 2" logo. Also rolled up with the t-shirt is a Red Bull Energy Shot. Not really my thing but I'll give it to someone that will drink it. Honestly Red Bull and energy drinks in general scare the crap out of me. Something about them just seems dangerous. But the extra little gift is appreciated!
It became apparent that there were lots more t-shirts than there were people so most people got extra! I got one for my brother and a third that I'll be sending to someone less fortunate!

    The people there:
I did meet a few folks from the forums but didn't really get many names. MrTiddlywinks and iPomegranite are the only two I met by name. Swami I have no idea who you were! Same with you Parasite! I was the big guy in the black coat and cap with the gold name badge.
The folks from 2k were great as usual! The guy with the big camera was kind of keeping things moving along. He got the folks dressed as splicers in a group picture with the Big Daddy and Little Sister. He made sure everyone got their pictures with them and kept reminding us that they were going to be leaving soon.
2k Elizabeth was indeed there! We got to talk for a bit and thank her for putting all this on. FoxyMark, iPomegranite, and myself got our picture with her and the BD and LS! I even asked if she would sign my t-shirt package and she was kind enough to oblige. Thanks so much Elizabeth! I know I'm a bit of a fanboy but you seriously deserve all the praise in the world. You and folks at 2k have the best jobs in the world and you really make us fans feel important! What you do is awesome!
iPomegranite certainly had a long trip getting there and he got a little something special out of it as well but I'll let him tell you about that if he wants!

    Getting home:
Sadly, just like at Jones Beach, it was all over pretty quickly! We said our goodbyes to Elizabeth and the team and everyone else there and began the trip home. We got a bit lost in the hell that is New Jersey but soon enough were on the right track. About a half hour into our trip home the rain turned to snow. Back here at home there's nearly half an inch on the ground! Perfect way to end the day!

    In summary:
The day was incredible! We had a great time watching in amazement as the Big Daddy and Little Sister played their roles perfectly, got some nice swag, and got to chat it up with some cool folks! I wasn't in the least bit disappointed! It was clear that a lot went into this as with all of the stuff 2k does! Again, thank you! Elizabeth and the team, all of your hard work is greatly appreciated by us! You didn't need to do any of this to make us fans of Bioshock but by doing so we've become more than fans; we've become part of the Rapture family.

I'm going to play janissary here, but please don't quote the whole post if it is really long. Trim it down to just the part you're referring to, thanks.

Anyway, nice writeup. It sounds like it was a lot of fun, I hope you all had a good time. I'm also dying to figure out what the special thing iPomegranite got.

Also, not to impose, but if anyone happens to have a spare Large shirt lying around that they don't know what to do with I promise to give it a good home…

People I think appeared in the shots:
In 4:24, I'm not sure who he is but he's from the forum! Who are you mystery satchel guy!?
    FoxyMark
    VengenceCube
Rockerman (briefly, because I was talking to him. )
A bunch of the hired and fan splicers alike

And I didn't get any footage of Liz since I had absolutely no clue she was even there. Drat!

Yea thanks to everyone who were at the event that posted info on here for all of us. Great write up VengeanceCube. When the event was over at first and people were posting their disappointment, I too was a little let down by the event. After reading your detailed report of the day, I can tell that it would of been fun. Seeing the splicers and the Big Daddy and Little Sister roaming around a street in NYC would of been enough for me.

Also thanks to Swami for posting the video.

There were a few more people who posted information, so I'll just say thank you all.

    p.s. What did iPomegranite get!!?!?!

I was trying to see who you were but I didn't want to look like some weirdo checking you out and what not . Fantastic write up though. Hopefully next event (HOPEFULLY THERES ATLEAST 1 MORE EVENT)we can meet each other better. Splicer to splicer .
