    Question Classes

Well, I’m almost certain some person has asked this somewhere on these forums... but effort - time = I’m not going to look more then a couple of pages.

Anyway, my question is, will there be specialised classes to start you off with? Like in System Shock 2 I think there was a black ops class, a navy class and a military class.
If so, any hints of what kinds of classes there are to choose from?

I don't think the game will have classes. Character growth will be determined by the plasmids you select.

Nope shooting a gun won't require plasmids, but if you want to improve your aim, you will have to use the adam you collect from the little sisters in order to do so.
As for the thing about classes no-one really knows at the minute, hopefully there won't be any so you can alter the way you play the game as you go through without being hampered by an early uninformed choice. Maybe if you don't kill the little sisters and help them they will be able recycle your own adam (which would probably mean having a huge needle stuck in you *shudders*), so you can use it again in other skills, sure we'll find out soon

well in system shock the only reason there was a class system at the beginning was to give you a boost in some areas so that you dont...ya know get murdered instantly. but yeah guess we will have to wait and see as with most things bioshock
yeah those needles...damn. wonder what they collect adam for.

They collect Adam because its the genetic material to make plasmids.

They collect Adam for Andrew Ryan, so that way has a monopoly of it

I seriously don't think there will be any classes. It wouldn't be any different if you actually went to Rapture. Do you have a class? No, of course you don't. You have the skills you've acquired up to now. If you're a good shot then you're a good shot. If not, then you better find a place to hide or get better very quickly.

Classes in SS2 were not that meaningful in the first place. They just boosted some initial stats of your choosing when going through the tours of duty in the first 3 years. You could still be a Psi specialist even if you chose the Naval assignments.

I believe Bioshock will take much of the same approach, meaning you choose your specialities (class) by using them & upgrading them at the Plasmi-Quik* stations. You could play a Jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none, or specialize in firearms or hacking.....

*pain of death still in effect

I guess you could explain it as the plasmid configuring you with the muscle-memory and physical conditioning necessary to fire fast and steady etc. (maybe weapon affinity supplies you with a kind of 'cultural memory' with regards the weapon also).

As far as I can tell, the player starts off as a totally blank sheet (no pre-selection of character-traits or skill-sets).

i dunno. if you do start off with a blank sheet that would be cool, but hey if they do include classes in the long run they are pointless anyway.

our Borat is a complex soul!-As for the question, its obviously going to be better starting off with a blank page as it were, building up the stats as you go.In SS2,i felt for some reason,i was at a dis-advantage when playing as a marine, rather than the other classes.Bioshock is totally different,we assume that our guy is not a specialist in any one particular field.

not really... OMFG I just had the coolest thought

Randomly when you start the game, your charactor has different hereditary traits, so that you can use some plasmids better than others or whatever, and are better at some things than others in the begginging!

The two most polarized classes (Marine/Psi-Ops) made it harder to switch over to the other, because of the stats the first 3 tour of duties would allow you to choose. The best thing to do if you could not choose right away was to choose Navy. The stats provided for the sailor boys were generally universally needed for early success, like hacking, security, endurance, etc...
