    Laptop Recommendations

I've been thinking about buying a laptop recently. My current contract has been extended, and while not absolutely necessary for the job, a laptop would be useful. The lab I currently work from is called the 'dungeon', so needless to say it would be nice if I could work from where I wanted to on campus, especially during the summer months. I do a lot of the work at home as well so it would be useful all round.

Since they're not typically used for gaming I've never even thought about owning a laptop before

Therefore I don't really know what's what - what brands are reliable, the difference between the processor specs, etc. I brief rundown of this would be appreciated.

I need it mostly for development, I'm not interested in it for gaming so a stellar CPU isn't required (maybe 2GHz), but memory may be important so 1gig with room for upgrade.

Also, I walk a lot so weight is important I guess. Are they generally lightweight nowadays?

Christ, just after a major upgrade as well, had I known I would've held off on that for a while

Edit - D'oh! Please move or delete this thread. It was meant for the Off Topic section

I'm probably looking at the lower £350-450 price range.

Does anyone have any experience with the Fujitsu Siemens Amilo range of notebooks?

I take you were happy with that purchase then? There were no technical/reliability issues, etc?

I now have my eye on this: Acer Aspire w/ AMD Turion MK-36

I guess my next question would be; are there any issues with AMD mobile processors? (I see that Intel are more commom/popular, is there any reason for that?)

i am happy with my purchase... the reason why the Core2Duo's are more popular ist because they are cheaper, faster and don't spend so much energy like the AMD X2...
