    Bioforge

    Has anyone here played a PC game made by Origin called Bioforge? I'm asking because when I first heard of Bioshock, I noticed they seem to have gotten the name from a combination of Bioforge and System Shock.

    LOL really? Are you sure they didn't get the name from Biology/Biochemistry and System Shock

    Thanks for the laugh I did play Bioforge back in '95 when Origin released it. A classic of the so-called interactive movies. Great old school early Win 95 game. Good music. Cybernetics always tickle my fancy (besides nmrahde that is )

    I still wonder why no sequel has been pursued by some dev house willing to find the license. The story of the Mondites is worth exploring.

    I feel the same way. When EA cancelled the production of Bioforge Plus, I was not happy at all. I wish I could get that beta version of Bioforge Plus, but it probably doesn't exist anymore. Damn you, EA, damn you! ... Ahem, okay I'm feeling better now.

    I really did enjoy the game's background, even though the voice acting was pretty bad. I've always wondered what happens next in the plot and what happened to poor Dr. Esher, who is apparently Dr. Mastiba's next test subject.

    I'm not really a cybernetics fan exactly, but I do like the cyberpunk genre. I like the dark atmosphere of cyberpunk and I'm really into sci-fi quite a bit. Actually, I tend to like anything that delves into possible future problems for humanity, including robots, genetic engineering, AI, cybernetics, and post-apocolypse.

    Another series of games that I love is the Fallout series.

    I never heard about Bioforge Plus until you mentioned it. Wiki says they were going through some hardships and rushed out a beta that ultimately failed. I wonder if it had any followup to the alien technology or that Bruce Lee alien that looked like a walking big toe.

    I think now with technology the way it is, Bioforge 2 could become an excellent space sci-fi RPG along the lines of Mass Effect, including a taste of cybernetic achievements/attachments similar to Deus Ex. It's an esoteric IP I'd snatch up if I had my own dev studio.

    Maybe you should mention it as a Favorite Underground Game in the thread of the same name


    PS I adore cyberpunk as well, I did make a thread on the topic

    I keep wondering what else it would have revealed about the Phyxx (that alien race), too. The game ended far too soon, but I can understand why. They likely wanted to see how well it would sell before spending more money on its production. ... *Sniffle* I wanted to get revenge on Mastaba, but now I'll never know how it was suppose to end, nor hear the satisfying thump as he hits the floor. ... Unless we can find the head writer behind the game...

    I agree, Bioforge would definately make a great sci-fi RPG, though the background story would need to be enhanced a bit first.

    You know, I think I'll check out that Favorite Underground Game thread. I just saw it shortly before posting here.

    I'm going to have to take a look at your cyberpunk thread, too. Have you ever heard of the Microprose game called Blood Net? I never really got into it all that much, mainly because I wasn't really sure what to do in it and there was a time limit.

    Gawd, that game had some of THE BEST lines ever! Sadly, I never finished it. I hear it will run under DOS Box though... So, who knows.

    What I loved was how the player's character was trying to appeal to Kane as he was kicking the ☺☺☺☺ out of him. "We should work together" *roundhouse kick* "I'm not trying to hurt you!" *follows with uppercut*

    Bioforge is a great game, and I played thru it by using DOSBox just a couple of weeks ago

    The demo that came with some magazine disc impressed me highly back when it was released. But I was busy at the time and lots of things going on, so I kinda forgot about it until 1998, I belive, when I stumbled upon it in a store.

    Good stuffs! You remember in the beginning in the cell with that droid? "Subject must stay (something), recuperation, is mandatory...) Then it would poke you with a needle and put you back to sleep.

    Gawd, that voice... I was sooooooo happy after kicking that tin-can into the force field and blowing it up! So, VERY happy! It was quite the game with puzzles and, "Borg" like critters too. Half-machine that is to say. Even dinosaurs if memory serves?

    The physics used in the game were quite odd to say the least. They started acting up in the initial playing sequence you mentioned, and that robot ended up bounding across about 10 different angles in the room before ultimately hitting the forcefield.

    The toughest parts I found were the fixed cameras being too far away, so you inadvertently fall off a ledge. Also aiming the mounted turret to destroy the dropships (aptly named after Chicago Blackhawk hockey players ) was difficult.

    Yeah, the camera angles got me into some tight spots, too, especially in combat. Wait, what's he doing? OH, he's kicking me in the head.

    I downloaded a program a while back that let me extract all the sound effects. If only I had somewhere to host them.

    One bad thing was you had to stop and turn, or stop and run. Not the best interface at all (actually fairly bad), but the narrative was great enough to overlook it.

    You have all the effects? Does that include music? Can you ZIP and send to me?

    Yeah, the music as well. I'm not 100% sure if I have everything, because it's difficult to confirm that. And yes, I can do that. Can you extract RAR files, or should I use ZIP format?

    Come on! That robot bouncing of like, 10 different walls was classic! I think I replayed that scene every time I was in a bad mood! Like, "Oh yeah... Mr. boss, take that!" And the robot goes bouncing off 20 walls getting faster after each bounce!

    *Looks up at the location in his title* Yeah... that was just so wonderful naming things you had to blow up after Chicago Blackhawk players... *Grumbles and shakes a fist at the computer screen*

    Don't make me get all Bioshock on your arse sister! You wouldn't like me on Plasmids! Plasmids that I got from the Plasma-Quick! (I refuse to call it a Gene-Bank, Lame.)

    I didn't remember the track was simply Midi files. It came off as a shock, but the simple beats they used reinforced the lonely on-the-run feeling that pervaded throughout the experience. Of course midi synthesizing changes from soundcard - soundcard, so I barely recognized much of it.

    Ha ha. I remember this scene/fight so vividly.
    This game had so many fresh ideas, good story telling, (a few bugs and gameplay issues) and was very atmospheric. I wish someone/some fan group will pick it up and make a proper remake for it. Or a proper sequel.

    Did anyone ever play the game Cybermage? IMO it was on the same level as the original System Shock...its just that no one played it...!
