    CivRev I Never

Time to play CivRev I Never. Here are the rules. I make a true statement beginning with "I never" that relates to CivRev gameplay. If this statement isn't true for you, you must reply and explain the circumstances surrounding your embarassing goof or amazing feat. You may then make your own true statement. Taking a drink of something is optional. Hopefully this thread will spiral completely out of control in no time flat.

I never have been eliminated from a game by barbarians taking my capital.

    I have.

I moved my settler as Egypt in a H2H. The spot had lots of dessert, but lacked production. I took a chance and got Stonehenge. I rushed a warrior, and sent him out. Then a barb was next to my cap. I had no gold, my warrior was too far away and well you know the rest.

Ive never lost a mp, or was in danger(5 events) of losing a mp match to culture. Im not sure if I have been 10 events away.

I have lost a caps to barbs but had an other one... Never lost to a culture win.

I've never win a cultural win in MP without having an at least 10 techs advantage and producing enough gold to be able to win an eco win more easily.

I've never played in the 2000AD.

I've never lost a game to the A.I.

I have, as the Russians starting on an island in a FFA match where I had no gold, only room for 3 cities. The Chinse player that was leading quit when I took one of his empty cities, he only had like 25 techs in 1700AD, but had a bunch of gold. I had no where to expand to because there where no islands close and the mainland was taken up. I eventually beat the last remaining player who had only 2 cities (with a road), but it actually took me a little bit to gain an advantage over the Chinese AI, who started playing better than the human player did.

I have never lost to the French in MP.

Gulp. Do friendly matches against the headless 10 count? He beat me with the French twice. In my defense, once I was Mongols and the other time I was Russians.

I have games last to 2000 AD from time to time. It hasn't happened lately, probably because I'm getting better. But since I always play random civs, sometimes I have a really horrible start with a bad civ and don't really get things rolling until like 1000 AD. If the competition is on the lighter side, it might take until 2000 or so to win. Otherwise, of course, I'll lose the game before 2000 rolls around.

I had a game that went nearly in 2000 against Rawjos (think_before_you_speak) and madjinn. It was epic, india (me), japan (rawjos) and madjinn (spain). It was long because at the end our defense was so strong it was impossible to take a city. I started on an big ressourceful island. It was an epic one...

    Let's see...

I've lost to barbs before...just happened the other day, I didn't see the barb coming (I swear it wasn't there) and then bam, I'm out.

I've gotten hit by the AI before too...Zulu warriors. Usually they don't attack right away but they did once. Oops.

I lost to the French before as well...guy got a good start and went straight to feudalism and dropped two knights armies into my area. I had knights myself, but not enough gold to fend him off.

I've faced plenty of players I'd say are better than me. But I hold my own.

Never seen a real culture win in MP.

Played a game into 2000 AD...I was English, against an American and japanese. Japan went for the tech win and Americans (who probably could have had an econ win within 10 turns if he tried) quit when he launched the spaceship. I'd been terrorized across the map by the American bombers, so only had 1-2 cities, but I had a modern infantry army and a bship fleet and all the upgrades (they did a lot of fighting those guys did). Took the japanese capitol and held it with a 168 defense or something ridiculous like that. Once America was out, I was free to focus on Japan and he quit once I had gone through two of his cities and had a formidable attack group put together (bships/bombers/tanks etc). Fun game.

For my own I've never gotten a borders culture flip in a ranked game (GA's don't count!).

Never lost to the French, and only the Mongols once(Morte)

Lost to the AI two or three times.

Had my capitol taken by an AI in a mp, three times(two walk ins). A player left with an infiltration horse army and attacked my cap (archer army) and won. That was embarrassing, as the AI kept coming for my cities.

Plenty of the games in 2000s, weren't you guys ever noobs??

Lost caps to barbs a few times.

I have won by cultural a few times, and watched my friend quit as he was about to. I made fun of him that whole game.

Lost cities to cultural borders. One time I set a city down next to English, without realizing they were there. Lost a chain of cities after that.

I have been eliminated from a game by barbarians taking my capital. I was running for another barb hut in opposite directions & another one popped 3 flags earlier & had sent the barb scouts towards my cap. I attacked w/1 warrior. Barbarian won. I managed to rush another warrior & attack. Barbarian won. Next turn, barbarians took my capitol. A proud moment to say the least.

I never have lost to the Deity AI. I have lost 1 game to King AI as the Russians (the first time I played them). My son can't say this which I am quick to remind him when necessary.

Were you attacking barbarians in a forest? If so, you would've been better off just fortifying in your cap to face a 0.5-1.5 attack instead of going 1-1.

I'm ashamed to admit I just lost a deity game yesterday. Ha ha. I was doing the French one city challenge. I probably made a couple strategic errors and wasn't really giving it my full attention, but what hurt the most was no GB. I had finally gotten the tech lead and was cruising home when out of nowhere the Arabs (who I hadn't even had contact with yet, so the numbers weren't on the diplomacy screen) won a cultural victory. Hah. I was just thinking there really didn't seem to be many wonders left.

Yeah I was being stupid but to lose 2 battles was pretty irritating. In any case, it was a nice lesson I won't soon forget.

If you want a challenge in Diety, try the scenario which lowers the targets for each victory type. This can be challenging as you don't have much time & you start w/3 cities so you don't get to select your early city locations & you can get hemmed in in some map starts. I find it's a real pain sometimes & not easy w/40% handicap. I think it might be called "Lightening Round" or something like that. My son lost & I barely won myself. It's definitely harder than average Diety IMO.

    I have a couple.
    StratGa
    SVPM
    Randomgab
    Norankgab
    MarieKnight

I restarted to play a game or two a day recently. Usually on Stratga or Marieknight.

    Are you in the chatroom?

I think Rawjos stopped playing for a couple of weeks.

do you guys actually say that you've never lost a sp game?

i lost plenty of them. i started on the lowest difficulty and won immediately, so did i on the 2. but i lost hard 10 games on the 3. before i could beat it. the same on king and finally deity. guess, i should've just started on deity.

Yes, it can go either way but you should try all 16 civs. I suspect you'll find some civs & some victory types more challenging than others. It does tend to allow non-dom victories more easily as the conditions are lowered measurably but this goes for the AI as well & given the 40% handicap the dom path can be more challenging. I like the format myself & would prefer if MP games could have something like this, at least for player matches. This would keep matches short while also giving a more opportunities for "non-dom" victories in MP play.

I've lost 1 game on King difficulty when I played the Russians for the first time. I started on King & was playing Deity on day 2. It took me over 12 hours to win my first Deity game as I micromanaged every single turn to the Nth degree after watching my sons get decimated by Deity. Game length has come down a bit since then.

I have lost to Morte. I've only played him a handful of times, due to the time difference, but the last time was pretty bad. I was picking random in unranked against his Romans. I actually got the Chinese, which I didn't want. I started right in between him and the Greeks, so no rushing the AI, but I already had a horsearmy by the time I found this out. I did manage to double move him w/ horses off a boat and take one of his 5 or 6 cities he had settled by 2000BC. He sent me a message saying he didn't see that coming, and while I was inebreated (sic) and responding to his msg, the next turn starts and he takes the city back w/ a vet archer army from a hill . Doesn't really matter, I could see his cities, and knew that I wouldn't be taking many more. But I got Code of Laws, but had no gold, and misplayed my expansion, trying to keep his now 8-10 cities from getting irrigation before me, which I did, but he proceeded to build about 20 cities in a space that most might only build about 5 or 6. I love watching him play w/ the romans, because it's basically like a wall of cities, and reminds me that I still don't play them as well as I should.

I have never had the Egyptians, Germans, Zulu, Greeks, or French as my favorite civ listed on the leaderboards.

I have, I won something about 70 FFA in a row. Most of them against top players (at least top50, and at least 20-30 games with top20 players)

I have never.. won by technological victory in MP. (If I did, it was once)

elthrasher: "I never have been eliminated from a game by barbarians taking my capital."

Me, either. But that's about the only humiliating thing that has not happened to me while playing this game.

SVPM: "I have ... (n)ever lost to a culture win. ... I've never played in the 2000AD. I've never lost a game to the A.I."

Been there on SP, done all three (and below Deity level, too).
I once had the unequivocally infuriating experience of watching the Spanish galley-drop my cap - on turn 10 of my first King-level game! In ten whole turns, they: 1 - hammered out a galleon, 2 - sailed straight for my cap, & 3 - dropped a militia in an empty city with my 3rd warrior unit only 3 tiles away.

elthrasher: "I have games last to 2000 AD from time to time. It hasn't happened lately, probably because I'm getting better. ... sometimes I have a really horrible start with a bad civ and don't really get things rolling until like 1000 AD."

Because I am still on a quest to fill out my Hall of Glory, I have plenty of games that go beyond 2000 AD (almost always either cultural or tech). Lost one game in 2100 AD (the infamous 5-turn domination victory).

Pedal2Metal: "I have lost 1 game to King AI as the Russians (the first time I played them)."

Me, too. I was 3 turns from finishing the UN, when the Chinese space ship landed. (Darn French & Spanish!) That game is another long anecdote.

Pedal2Metal: "If you want a challenge in Diety, try the scenario which lowers the targets for each victory type. ... I think it might be called "Lightening Round" or something like that."

A few weeks ago, someone suggested using the French in the Beta Centauri scenario as the easiest one-city achievement. (He was correct.) I will soon start a thread in the General Forum about the scenarios since I have been playing them lately.

I've done most of those things, especially the dumb ones like lose to barbs, lose to the AI, and lose to the French. I don't think I've lost to culture, though. Nor do I remember having a game go into the 2000s, but that could be because of bad memory or quitting before it gets to that point.

Here's a challenge: I've never used America in MP.

That would be a cool thread! I've played most if not all of the scenarios & they are definitely fun to mess around with IMO. I've got all the DLC scenarios as well. Some of the maps are simply crazy!

    best regards,

Here's a challenge: I've never used America in MP.
I have and really sucked with them (as i still do)

I never built EITC until recently as I thought it was only for city it was built in

i have i always build that company..

I have never lost agaisnt a Greek player online nor offline!

Zso tried once, but my french aristocrats bought 3 horsearmies with veteran status, and took over like 4 greek cities with hoplites... i had him cornered to his capital, and liie another city(one of his cities game me democracy, and since i had one of the wealthiest aristocrats, i had pikemen defending them) so he's knights could do nothing! he called it a quits, no greek player has defeated me
