Some of you will learn to love the custom soundtracks feature on the 360

    (No Spoilers)
I'm one of the lucky bastards that bought Bioshock at my local TRU on Thursday. If you are like me, you don't watch suspense and horror films. And you certainly don't even think about going into one of those horror house attractions.

If you are this type of person, I have news. This game is so scary it is practically unplayable. I highly recommend you play your own music to muffle the in-game sound. This will act as your life line back to the real world. It is the only way not to get completely sucked in by Rapture.

    Note to devs:
Just like Gears had an option to disable the gore and profanity, a ☺☺☺☺☺fied version of the Bioshock sound effects would have been welcome. This game is
    just too damn scary!!!

Welcome to the forums first off, enjoy yor stay.

This game is intended to be scary. From the way you talk you seem to enjoy it(you know you like it) but I personally will keep the music on.

This is what happens when you don't get desensitised to violence. Hey let's be honest Bioshock isn't even that scary.

Not much scares me in the realm of movies or videogames anymore so I'm hoping Bioshock will give me a few good scares. So I'm looking foreword to going "AW HOLY CRAP!" at points in the game.

Dude, you can't play other music while you play the game! I can see doing that for something like a fighting game or an arcade game, but something like Bioshock is meant to have its own music played with it! It's like listening to your iPod while watching a movie. You're missing out. The music makes the atmosphere, as scary as that might be. Just play during the day with all the lights on and friends over.

Isnt the in game music supposed to be in there. Why cover up one of the most important parts of the game the sound. It brings all the atmosphere to the game

I'll be playing Bioshock in a room with several other people (lol living room) because I am a ☺☺☺☺☺, and until I get used to it, I won't play at night... I should get used to it soon, it doesn't seem to be as cheap as F.E.A.R. was with its scare tactics (loldeadbody).

I've only played the demo as the game isn't out here till Friday, but I can't imagine playing other music with it. Although random shuffle bringing up "I'm too sexy" while you hit splicers with a wrench would be interestingly surreal.

...Not that I have "I'm too sexy" in my library.

the scarier the better, cos it takes a lot to scare me these days (i'm 33 and have seen just about every decent horror film, played nearly all horror games and read a lot of horror). Gore and violence do not scare me, it's the pyschological stuff, the stuff that gets your mind working that can truly be scary.

And I play these games at night, lights off, windows open (for added 'chill') and headphones on loud... many games have made me jump under these conditions but not many have got me 'scared' as in a nightmare (except for 1 or 2 old ones).

    LOE < Lack of edit:

And there's no way I'll be playing my music collection over the perfectly formed strains of the underwater suspense soundtrack, that's just disrespectful and immersion ruining

That strange, because I tend to be the type of person you described (avoids horror movies, haunted houses, etc.), and yet I find myself a fan of horror games.

I suppose its because games tend to give a sense of empowerment despite being creepy. I always know that no matter how freakish that ghoul that just jumped at me may be, I can still react and liquify its face with a shotgun or whatever.

That said, I would never ever deny myself the aural pleasures of Rapture.

Man I knew the game was freaky, but IS IT THAT BAD? I'm one o those easily creeped people. Now, I'm scared.

It is. But like I said, I’m talking from the perspective of somebody who hates suspense. I don’t play the Resident Evils, F.E.A.R., or Condemed for that same reason. But after seeing the reviews on this game I decided I had this was one I simply could not pass up. I mean Bioshock is now rated THE best game of this console generation.

The experience has been pretty intense. I had never exposed myself to subject material that would make the hair on my body actually rise. I seriously did not know that the phrase “hair-raising” was literal.

I have not had too much time with the game as I have been very busy, but I finished the first area of the game. I took special care explore everything on that area. That’s the other thing that is so awesome about this game. It has that Zelda quality where it is a big world, and you are rewarded for exploring the nooks and crannies. It’s a sandbox shooter. But I would not compare it’s sandbox aspect to GTA or crackdown where the world is gargantuan but barren.

hehehehe I'm gonna be up all night in a pitch black room with 7.1 surround i kind of hope it does scare me though it probably wont the only aspect of the game i could see being scary for me is the ocean, because i have a phobia of it ^_^ only video game that i ever found even mildly creepy was Silent Hill and even that was pretty mild and i stilled played it during the middle of the night in surround sound :P
