Been having some h2h's using Romans and seems... they can't be stopped unless someone uses the Germans and brings legions that rarely can be beat...
I beg to differ MPB!! I only used ze Germans the once against you! ;-)
You will use them again Liam... they the only civ that will help you in the bottom 10, lol. We will get some more games in soon.

Weird thing today...
Playing as China, walked a bit, picked up friendly, settled next to a 1 flag barb with a USA AI on a hill on the other side of me. Rushed warrior, took down the barb for 30g and USA walks in next turn.
I thought AI didn't bother you if you are at peace (other than the accidental Zulu walkin).
Any experience with this? Is the AI more aggressive if you have gold and/or tech?
This seems to happen, but very very rarely. I recently lost a game to a Mongolian AI warrior walking into my empty cap at 3300 BC or so. Don't know what caused it to do that. We were at peace as usual. It just decided that my cap is too juicy to pass up on I suppose.
Maybe it is the 3 pop size that early. In my game I was Spain and Madrid was already at 3 pop. China starts with that anyways. But I experienced countless times that an AI warrior passed on empty HGB Thebes. Just a thought.
If you threaten them even once and then make peace it negates the whole I won't walk in on you. Alternatively if they had two warriors to your one with a GE start then they will attack as they have the upper hand in strength.
Never threatened them as I wanted the barb gold and keep my cap too.
Yeah, maybe it was the three pop city, and with USA, it's possible they had two warriors.
For the Mongols, who are used to getting 1 pop cities, a 3 pop Madrid is, as you said—too juicy.
Just one last word on this (if we continue we need to start a separate thread and stop hijacking this one):
I don't think the strength argument is valid since warriors pass on your empty cap all the time right after you settle. Let's say you settler walk, settle 3300BC next to an AI warrior and make peace. It will always pass on your empty cap even though the AI is "stronger" (1 warrior vs. no units at all).

I get island start. Expand. Get AoC with 6 cities. Steal GL from egypt. Build like 12 elites. Conquer 4 of 5 caps. Steal gs to use on combustion after hammering out oxford bombers a few turns before after getting industrial from conquering a city. Have 5 tank armies outside his cap when the ice age begins. And I know it is not accidental.

Him leaving me alone on a small but forest rich part of the map resulted in 42 elite KA at 500bc. I wont have to mention what happened after that eh![]()

Lol no you didn't you came at me with a Vet Galleon fleet and Inflitration HA and AA and stole my 100g settler. What are you talking about? I found 7cog after you already had made your galleon fleet and you killed my HA and had your walk in on Madrid and then I lost every even battle. You did exactly what you were supposed to do, not leave me alone...
Anyone else end up hard freezing themselves with the Germans fairly often? I swear I had this happen about ten times the past week before I realized the problem, picking my elite upgrades too quickly causes an.advisor clash. Have to.pace yourself if you ate say upgrading three warriors before forming an army.
yep i used to lock myself up all the time doing that. I hate those damn advisors
I have it often with the Germans aswell, although its extra painfull not seeing all those beautiful WA being upgraded so maybe i just remember it more.
With the 42 armies in my previous post the whole screen was blanked with an upgrade message, thankfully it resumed afterwards![]()
In my experience, any fast sequence of city screens, pop ups and selections can freeze the game. It is silly, especially since time is of the essence in most cases.
I had a great game yesterday on ranked h2h that i did not wanna leave you guys out off.
I mentioned before i had some awesome Island starts alot lately and this was one of them.
Playing my trusty Arabs vs a spanish player.
I start on a small island but it has 1 barb. Push out a warrior take the barb, 30g and shows me KT.
Rush a galley put my warrior in it, pick up KT, and only a few spots down are the German AI. Great!
Drop off my KT and first take the barb who was sitting there and eventually attack the Germans, i kill a warrior, and apparently their sec warrior made it back to home. I ask for peace and accept, wait.... CRAP i just accepted 10 turns of peace.... pfff
I make it to 100g and drop my 100g city next to the germans on fish and send my KT further down.
Research HBR to get a HA out to hopefully take the germans after the 10 turns.
My KT runs into a mongol barb city, who is already at 3 pop. Not bad i suppose.
My HA is ready, and the 10 turns are up so i attack the germans, but they have an AA now (around 1800bc) i try to withdraw but it doesnt work, so my HA dies. Next turn is awefull, Spanish galleon drop my cap and the germans walk in to my 100g city, bah. The only reason i dont give up is the 5pop mongol city to the south, lets have a try.
My KT has 5 upgrades in the meanwhile and 10 attack is enough to take it.
Changed my 2x 2 pop cities north on an island for 2 cities 4-5 pop south lol, ill take that.
My KT goes back up to get my 100g city back and while i take it i see a wounded Spanish WA sitting next to berlin, and he actually takes the city. Maybe germans walked out or something.
Next turn i gallop my trusty KT to berlin and take it
I plant a few cities south, 1 more next to Berlin and start building 2 barracks. Take my cap back with a CA 3 turns after the barracks finished.
There was an egypte AI in the game aswell but the Culture was huge so i didnt bother with them.
I reseach galleons and load up 3 CA towards the west. Im not sure where he was but somewhere that way.
2 turns later i see 2 spanish 1 tile cities both with Whale, and both defended by a single archer, so i take both cities. I rush 2 archers in each city incase he tries to pull the same on me, and what do you know, 2 turns later a galleon sailed up and attacked with a CA. I kept rushing an acher for the next 7 turns, he never got his city back.
I finally find madrid get 2 other galleons and 2 more CA and drop all 5 CA with an AA off next to madrid. He quits when i defeat 1 AA.

I had my first good ranked game in a long time a few days ago. My opponent (pathan765) did demo glitch me though in later part of game. I was brushing up on germans. Opponent was aztec. Very long game in which battleships, artillery, oxford bombers, cannons, and even nuke was used. Nuke was used tactically instead of on a city. I was about to take one of his cities w/ artillery, tanks, and battleship fleet support when he decided to eliminate my land force by nuking the tile directly behind them. Fortunately, my fleet was out of range of the blast zone. So he saves his city and i try hard for a tech victory. I barely beat him to space flight only by kidnapping a GS from Thebes and using another 1 i got from culture. I start launching my parts and next turn so does he. He actually departs his ship 2 turns before i do but he only used one engine and for some reason he used 2 fuel adding extra unnecessary weight. I use 2 engines and our ships arrive at same time but since i was host i get the victory.![]()
A while back, I commented that I'd never had a negative resynch. Well, my luck has run out.
Found SoC... resynch, then my GS turns into a GE.
But then in another game, I get a real doozy. I'm having a good start, several warriors out. One of my barbs gives me a galley. I put my warrior on the galley to transport across some sea, saving me valuable time. Resynch, and guess what? My galley is gone, and my warrior decides to do a little deep-sea diving right in the middle of the game. Arggh!
Wow you never had that? I have it practically every game im not hosting. Galleys dissapearing,GP dissapearing, anything you rushed basicly dissapearing, and the gold is still gone where you rushed with.
Biggest one for me must be me rushing an archer in my cap when a warrior steps next to it. Resync, archer gone he walks in my cap, awesomeness!

I also have good experiences i guess. Taking SoC, and receiving 6 GP after resyncs, oops.
Ye usually when im rushing to get things done it happens. I rush alot aswell usually, maybe thats why it effects me more. Im positive ive had more then a 100 negative resyncs, and i dont play this game for that long yet, maybe 3 months max.
I guess in FFA its abit more common, h2h just needs 1 player taken out, 99% games dont even last long enough.
