Is it really 2 weeks? Bummer. I somehow was thinking 1 week. I was hoping to warm up a bit and then get a restart, but 2 weeks is a while.

Yeah. Imo, those are the sweetest kind of victories and those games are always memorable.
Just played two Greek mirror games. First against Pawk and second against Chief.
In the first Pawk gets the KT knight and SoC in the 3000s+/-. I meet his knight pretty soon and realize that since I have little gold and his knight stands in the way between me and the reast of land, all I can really do is build pikeman defense and slowly lose. So I quit that one.
In the second Chief's HS takes Moscow and then I take his HA next turn for the cap. Game over soon afterward.

maybe luck in our matches but definitely not luck against chief as it took a logical decision 2 make your killer horsearmy in the first place, nicely done i havent played chief in ages hes my dam kryptonite

Just beat him again... this time in a good match with my french against his arabs. I'll take a win against a good player like him b/c it won't be long before he starts stomping me again like he did before my break.
this one had the same theme: he kills my warrior with a ha, then takes rome between us, and i attack from a hill to take it back. pawk has done the same thing to me countless, countless times! it's a tough break for any player since you just can't be sure if the other player has a ha on the other side or not.
you can guess it by the tech tree and whether they have 100 gold, but even then you don't know if their ha is somewhere else unless you circle around the AI cap which loses you turns...
Both my records got erased when I hadn't played in a couple months on my main GT. Yesterday I started playing H2H and went 8-0 then froze in 4000. So now I'm 8-1.
I've seen people complain about him for a while.
A get quite in chuckle in that I've played him twice in H2H, and beaten him twice with walkins at 3400BC. Guess you can't cheat at that point.
In my FFA game he was in, I got him with Oxford bombers. Took forever as I think he had 5 pike armies or so in his cap.
Here comes a little Zulu rant:
Played a bunch of games yesterday. Played Zulu 5 times and lost 3 out of those ... 1st Mongols: Have a vet WA at my cap at 3200 BC. Managed to army up, but he just walked past me, which was good since I had no gold or growth left and he was going to suck up all barbs on the map - moot!
2nd: Spain vs. Zulu: I walk for 3 turns and bump into warrior. Run away, he follows me. I manage to pick up a friendly on the way, settle on a hill and he attacks 2 vs. 1.5 and wins :-/
3rd: Aztec vs. Zulu: Was late so I picked Aztecs. Walked, picked up an extra 25g. Settled about 3600BC, built 3 warriors and spot Greeks. Start sounds good.
Problem was that while I was doing that, the Zulu-related popups went as follows: 3700BC pops KT. 3500 BC gets Tripoli. 3300BC takes Mongol barb city and gets 7cities. 3000 BC takes Karakorum, 2700 BC gets SoC. What can you do?! 2 of his impi armies found my cap, I got 100g, but only got a non-vet HA together and had to send an extra warrior out for defense. Killed the 2 impi armies, but army still non-vet and no barbs left and the only AI left were the Greeks w/ their stupid 7.5 pikemen. I had my 100g city, but the land accessible to me was crap and my cap was in a non-growth spot.
Those are the games that you cannot do anything about and just have to accept that you lose those to anybody who knows how to switch workers from balanced to custom. Maybe settling in place would have helped in the last game, but that would have put me closer to the Zulu. In this case Zulu are way worse than China and USA since building warriors and overrunning barbs and walking into empty AI caps does not take any skill.

I played 3 games lately 2 plosses against random people - one i was mongols another - i dunno someone weak or maybe i had to leave - anywhay there wasnt much to say. then i got glen today. good game where my germans vs his indians.
managed to get col fast and i expanded out. i beat him to monarchy and i snuck around his cap to take a city of his out the back of his empire. sadly he fliped it and although i had a ga i couldnt flip back. that hurt me a bit as he gave me Iw that way. still I switched over to monarchy to get the extra culture and started banking hammers. he snuck into one of my cities but i just convered some hammers to legions and counter attacked. that turn i teched religion (or was going to cant remember if he quit first or not) he then called it as it wasnt looking like he would have much by the time i had a pretty mean group of knights heading his way.
Why not a group 6 game?
I dont know about glens side but i had just come out of a double freeze with forum and I didnt want to freeze glen and waste his time. loosing rank points would be a different matter - id just give them to him.
good news was the game ran just perfect.. there seems to just be somthing between me and forum.. i guess we are on the other side of the planet

In need of a major reduction in my civ rev gaming..
Problem is I have a strategy for playing well - it ,may not make sense... but it involves me sitting with a maths book and writing stuff down... its partly the stuff i write, partly the pre prepared reminders and partly the actual slowness that that forces, but I keep just loosing dicipline and just sitting down and playing randomly. I want to have the dicipline to do that all the time and have been trying to build it up but i clearly cant - and its frustrating...
If I cant do that Im a pretty average civ rev player and that is quite frustrating (you know when you play a game and you do dumb stuff its annoying). Ive been trying for a while in these tourneys but Im too much a creature of habit...
just saying this here because as a creature of habit its also hard to reduce the amount of civ i play!!! and writing it down might help

Played 3 this morning.
Greece v Japan, he quits in 3400 running his settler when my warrior spots it.
Zulu v Japan - quit straight away. Yes, It's frustrating seeing the Zulu, but a least play it out a bit and maybe i'm on an island or something.
Germany v Greece. As is the norm when I'm using Germany, the guy blew me away in tech, but never had a go. He even Gs'd Industrial, maybe he was going for Oxford, but 8 elite armies got the job done.

Here's a h2h game from a new player.
Random h2h game and i get Spain, not to shabby i think since i played with them quite abit. Look at my opponent, and find hes Chinese (Great, i think)
Start off at a decent spot, but thought i might aswell go look for some lucky whale nearby to give myself a better start. After 1 turn i run into a spy, and then his settler. Well i thought this game is over, aslong as he just sticks to me, he can easily cap me and win. The guy apparently wanted a game because while i waited the next turn, he went the other way, and i went abit south, trying to get some distance from him, and his free warrior. 2 turns later i spot a whale with 2 forest, and settled. So far not to bad.
I get 2 warriors out and decide to get BW first, i got a hill next to my cap, and i just wanna make sure he doesnt pull an early army next to me ( I figured as lucky as i been to get there, i better not press my luck even more
The 2 warriors in the meantime get me some gold, but not enough for my first settler, i also notice him taking greece cap after i get my sec warrior out. Not good.
I get HBR from a hut, set to gold 2 turns+1 forest, so my 100g settler can go on the boat( Surroundings were very poor, 1 whale spot, but no forest and close to chinese.) I rush a settler outta my cap aswell and my boat goes off to explore the open sea. Same turn he takes english cap. I reckoned by now its prolly gonna be quickly over with. He got 2 caps + 100g settler, and im still hanging about.
The only weird part is he never bothered me once, if he would have gone straight for me, he would still get the caps but would slow me down to oblivion.
Anyways, i get a perfect 2 whale spot on an island abit further, and also find SoC. This aint bad, get a GE and a GH. Not really what i was looking for at that point, but its a nice bonus. I rush 1 more settler while i bring my remaining settler on my boat to another island, where i find 7cities. I can work with that
I start to research legions while he pops up with a galley with an archer on it trying to block the oxen resource. I rush a barracks, and a horse from my cap (2 spots away) And the next turn rush 2 more to get rid of his archer. I had another Galleon set at my base aswell in prep of my upcoming attack. Attack his Galley and lose 3-1, ouch, but at that point i dont really mind to much.
So next turn he settles a city close to mine, 2 squares away, and i find an AA and a elite HA next to my barrack city. I dont have an AA in there, but with some reinforcement coming from my cap i got enough def to hold him off for a while. Also i rush a Galleon next to my city for some extra support.
Next turn i am able to form an AA army before he attacks.
So he attacked with his HA.....oh wait he attacks with his AA first (WTF) and retreats with 2 wounds. After that his HA is not able to kill my AA neither, and he retreats again.
I rush 2 legions and attack his AA with 1 (With galleon support), and kill it, how foolish to attack with that
Next turn i rush 2 more legions, army up, and attack his horse to kill it. He has no def in his city so i take it with a single horse.
He quits.
Kinda boring and long stretched story but i hoped you like it. Im kinda proud in how i managed to get him down while i had a slow start, and he had such a fast one.
In the end he had like 15-4 techs on me and this was over in BC.

I played another ranked this morning as ITZ was feeling a bit uptight to play, probably a good decision mate - don't play angry!
Anyway, I got Spain vs Colossus Egypt.
I usually have a bit of trouble V colossus. We both walked and my settler uncovers his cap. I have no gold and I see his warrior out, so I run back to a whale spot with just 1 tree, not ideal, however, he had 3 desert tiles and 1 tree. He was working the tree with one worker in his cap to get the warriors out. I got lots of gold and he quit soon afterwards.
I felt like getting on the mic, asking what the F*** he was doing and giving a few pointers, but never know how that will be taken? Do the rest of you guys ever put them right?
Yes I have quite a bit of frustration with the tourney game and how my rank has dropped over 100 points in the couple days.So now I am on an angry Zulu rampage in FFA until I get in to top ten again which will probably be a while.

got some games in against Grizz yesterday. Quite a few actually. We played categories or mirror matches
1st game was semi power civs my aztec vs his spain
he gets 7CoG at 3500, my first barb shows me the barb closest to him and i could see his boarders. the turn i get my 100g settlers and rush a horse he settles his 100g city 2 tiles from my exhasted settlers with horse of same square. i plant there and rush a 2nd horse and walk in on his 100g city and take nav and 78g and then next turn take his cap 1-0 Me
2nd game he calls for rematch.
tables are turned and this time a friendly shows him my cap and he galleon drops me the turn i get a walk in on japan with a horse at 3300. I build a ha to atk his cap and loose a 9-10 to his vet WA with galleon support. I call this one Grizz wins 1-1
3rd game finals of this rubber match same civs again. i get a walk in on rome for col the same turn i get kt. i start owning the main land. I pick up the other wonder AoC with 3 cities. build 2 ha and have the knight but they were useless for taking any other civs they just cleared the rest of the barbs. i tried to take his cap but he had a vet aa in it. I switch to republic and mass expand. Grizz makes a good game of it and even beats me to industralization due to a GS but I got a GA and fipped one of his cities and rushed a horse and walked in on the other on that island and with my elite KA coming to take his cap he calls it. 2-1 Me
4th game Germany mirror match
i settle next to a friendly village and it upgrades my warrior. one of the few times an upgrade from a friendly is worth it. i get blitz and it shows me a 3 flag barb village, that warrior takes it down for another upgrade to march. i army up and take a 3 pop american cap and grizz and i meet up in the opposite direction at a standoff for a barb village. he tries to be slick and wait til the last second and throw his 2 armies on boat to surprise me but i was on a hill and could see it happening. I take down that village and it gives me a boat which i use to destroy his boat. I threaten england for 25g for my 100g and he calls it. 3-1 ME
5th Game Mirror match Mongolia.
I get a walk in on Arabs but no tech. quickly tech HBR and get out a ha to take a village he and i were in a standoff at. he galley drops tripoli and I take my vet HA into his territory and he takes it out with a non vet warrior army 3-4.5. man the tables turned quickly. he techs IW and puts a caravan in one of my cities and then i see a baracks pop up in tripoli and I call it. GG Griz Wins 3-2 ME
6th Game Spain Mirror match we managed to settle near each other without really realizing it but i settled with 2 trees whale and fish. it turns out he blocked me off from the rest of the map where he settled and i only managed to get one barb village. he late HA atks me and wins a 7-5 and takes my cap while i am expanding to the islands. he gets SoC and flips one of my cities and galleon drops another leaving me with only 3 cities i get AoC and research math and take back one of my islands but it was way to late. he Galleon fleets up with 2 cat armies and rolls through me. I did manage to take out one of his cat armies but once he destroyed me army i called it. Grizz wins and ties it up. 3-3
7th Game India mirror match
I get 7CoG at 3000 I saw his HA roaming and tech IW and build 3 loose legions. when he attacks the cap he only attacks the warrior, i form the la and kill his ha. i throw 2 la on a boat and head out. i take out mongolia cap and get SoC for GA and GS. he takes aztec cap and we meet up again at azte 2nd city where he has 3 LA. he takes the city and i flip it but he kills the LA in the city b4 i could do anything and retakes the cap. next turn i take out the LA in the cap with my LA putting him down to 1 LA. I am still roaming with my boat and 2 addtional legion armies on it and find his 100g city open and galley drop it and put my 2nd LA in the trees btwn that city and his cap but he must have been banking hammers cause he is able to rush 2 horses out of his cap with a barracks and takes out one of my LA winning a 4.5-6 (vet LA in a tree def) we continue to fight at aztec 2nd city and his cap, I take his cap and he was just spread too thin and he calls it. GG. I win the series for the day 4-3

I myself no longer write down strats or ideas. I used to do that a lot my first year and a half. All sorts of numbers and tech tree paths, etc. But I just don't have the patience any more to think that deeply about Civ Rev, and now most of my strats are based on habits mixed with a few spontaneous whims.
Is it against the forum rules to say a player cheats if he himself basically admits it? If so, then interestingly it would follow that nobody could confess to cheating---sort of an ironic result of the rule!
In any case, whether he cheats or not, Hogs III seemed to imply that he does when he left me in a frozen game after I attacked him. I don't remember him being that kind of player, but he left the game and said "have a good night lol."
Besides that, this game was FANTASTIC. He was upset that I was slow, but I was only slow b/c everything, absolutely everything went my way. Just a great opening game for my England against his Egypt. I settled on dye, took Paris in 3400, and found way too many huts. It was yesterday, but I think I found almost 5 huts and 5 villages by the mid 2000s. I also grabbed the SoC for a GE and GS to start attacking him with a vet KA around 2400. And I always seemed to have around 150 gold on average until I spent it on knights. My 100 gold city also had dye.
But Hogs III was sad I was doing so well and cried sad tears in a bunch of messages. He must be 12, so I tried to encourage him to grow up.
