    Eliminated players sticking around

I have a question for those who might know:

So when an eliminated player sticks around in the game, even though he has been killed, and the game goes on, do you have to kill the other civs to get the win?

I had a FFA game tonight where one guy was lagging the whole timer out every turn, and two players quit. I found the lagger, and killed him, though after the two other players quit, he started not using the whole timer, about 15 turns into the game.

But he doesn't leave, and I'm having to kill the rest of the civs.

I think the game is suppossed to automatically boot the other guy after some turns, but I'm not positive on this. But if the guy is able to stick around, basically to watch me play I guess, do I have actaully win the game, or can I just quit out and get credit for the win??

I had this happen to me once. I was late for a movie so I killed my last opponent, only the game didn't end. So I said whatever I got to go, and when I got back I had the win. I don't how it all works, but I wouldn't quit out.

as long as you haven't seen the win screen, don't quit.

    I'm not so sure now.

I got a "you've been disconnected from XBOX Live" while playing the game where the guy woudn't leave, and I got credit for the win anyway.

I thought it had happened to me before, and I had to quit or leave or something, and it gave me the win too.

I guess you can never be too safe, was wondering if anyone knew for sure, or if it's random and you can get the loss after you've elimanated all the human players but it still makes you play the game out.

That's interesting. I always assumed that if the last eliminated player didn't quit, you'd have to go and beat up the AI or something. I have had this happen a few times and the eliminated player usually quits after a turn or two. In my games, the eliminated player didn't get to use the clock at all. The turn would end as soon as I clicked done.

By the way, once it was totally friendly. The guy was on the mic and wanted tips on playing and stuff.

Yes, you must get 1 of the 4 victory conditions to win if the eliminated player doesn't quit. I never quit so I don't know what happens if you do but my guess is you will lose the match. I think some players wait around for this possibility while others wait around seeing how a better player plays the game (that's why I hang around if I do hang around).

If you hang around after being eliminated, how do you see what the other civs are doing ?
Aren't you just watching the "sorry you lost" message screen having no clue what is happening with other civs and/or other parts of the map ?

No, you can still move your cursor around to observe the map so long as you don't hit any buttons whatsoever, although you have to look at the map with all the other garbage on the screen still. It's fun to do this once in a while & see how people do things.

well, I got the win, even though I eventually got booted from the game. All the other players were elimated from the match.

This has happened to me twice in the last day, and it still gave me the win.

I'm still iffy about whether or not you always have to get a victory condition or not after all the other players leave but you're still in the game. I sent a message to the other guy, and he said he left the match. So I guess it was just the server not relaying the message that the game was over.

I'm still gone err on the side of caution in this situation, because it seems like in the past I've been credited for a loss if I didn't win out, but it's been a while since I've run into this, so I don't know.

I had a guy do this to me once. It didn't take long to take out the AI's archer armies with tanks, but it was still annoying. The game wasn't at all close, the guy made me take out every one of his cities and then he stuck around and made me kill the AI too...
