The attention detail in Bioshock is stunning, we've got one heck of a game on our hands here.

Yes...I'm thinking of them right now...*creepy organ plays*. Actually the xbox game Breakdown had some nice hands as well and in Perfect Dark Zero you could see Joanna's fingernails really clearly,
Can't wait to see what transformations those hands will go through though, what with the crazy plasmids and all.
Yes, fairly realistic, but more noticeable is how animated they are for an FPS game, especially when plunging a plasmid into your forearm, or using any effect that has a dextrous dramatic flair added to it.
Some of my favorite uses of the hands are seen in Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (casting of spells), Half Life: Opposing Force (playing with living alien weaponry), No One Lives Forever (gadgetry application), and Butcher Bay (melee combat)
I'm just totally awe-struck by those huge cogs in the background. It looks like a Mechanist cathedral.
im sure there is a really annoying "your mom" joke in there somewhere
Hmmmm
lol
im just glad they fixed the players thum with the tommygun handle
look at the players thumb in the pic below

Totally !! It looks VERY kickass !!I am dying to buy my copies and play this !!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit : I really really hope they leave in the animations we saw in the CG vid, where the PC puts a injection of plasmids into his arm,and then the locusts came out and attacked the Bid Daddy !
I want to see that sort of thing in the game,as it looked very cool.

The more I hear people talk about it the more I'm looking forward to 'bee-arm', but for some reason part of me really thinks they're going to take it out of the final cut.
Why am I looking forward to it? or Why do I think they're going to take it out?
Ummm...why take out the bee-arm plasmid unless it doesn't fit in with the games balance? They obviously spent a lot of work on it, and it doesn't appear to be an overtly disadvantaging or advantaging plasmid. They may just run into problems with the number & placement of them throughout Rapture.
I agree about the bee thing being cut, which would suck. However, if it is in I would love the character to scream as he did in the trailers when releasing them (not all the time of course, just once in a while.)
it would be pretty interesting if there was a plasmid that you could inject others with, which would genetically alter them into a giant "cocoon' where many larval insects would quickly grow and gorge on the person's innards, and then eventually burst out to annoy things.

'Bee-arm'![]()
HAHA I wonder how many more of our inquiries will be answered if we entrap the developers by lying about the final product, then they have to come out to speak the truth of the matter![]()
Hey guys, the Little Sisters are actually robots to get by the censors!
4 enemies thats boring
As far as the 'bee-arm' goes (what a sh*t name) I was more interested in his screams of agony. Im not some sort of weirdo or anything, it just reinforced what the man says at the start of the trailer "what would you do to survive" sort of thing, cause maybe it's just me but that didnt really look pleasent, unless you play a masochist
.

The scream he does sounds really painful, I wouldn't like to be him.
check out Gears of War.
however Bioshock uses Unreal Engine 3 so there really wont be that huge a difference save for textures done by different artists. remember there are limits to what the engine can render.
Oh God, that was the most hideously performed plug I have ever witnessed.
EDIT: Oh wait, unless your talking about the hands in gears of war, in which case I must apologise.
But Gears of War is third person, so there are no hands of the type we're talking about.
"Bee Arm" is a community name. The things called a Hornet plasmid er sometin.
...and I don't know why he's complaining so loudly. It's just wasps ripping out of his forearm, and the injection would be supplemented with a numbing anaesthetic. I'd rather put up with wasp stings & ripped flesh than extreme dental pain.
OK, you're saying that having hundreds of flying insects burst out of your arm is something one should just cope with. How typical of today's attitudes that large emotions should be supressed.
No, that's not what I'm saying at all. Re-read what I said. I didn't mention anything about emotions, only physical pain. Trust me, if you've ever taken hardcore drugs, some of them make you feel like insects are bursting out of your body. What I meant was the pain is not that much to worry about compared to other forms of pain.
Or death.
If a gimpy misunderstood brute draped in white surgical scrubs approached me with a bone-saw in his right hand and that characteristic “knowing look” in his eye, there would be little hesitation found in my perverse heart to use whatever means I might have to survive.
That raw and sore feeling in my hand would be an easy sacrifice to make for dissuading that demonic M.D. with the irritatingly persuasive melody of my Bee-Minions.
Whatever it takes.
It's been decided. Due to the hand quality of Bioshock, it will be the best looking game EVAH!![]()
I think that honor will land fully in the lap of Crysis. The design work is far better in BioShock, but for graphical realism, Crysis will be the very best. At least until 2008.
Who says the game-play isn't put a head of the graphics?
But pain is a sensory response to tell you that your doing something bad to your body, and that you shouldn't do it in future. It doesn't much care that if oyu don't you'll be organs short of a circulatory system. Then again the adrenaline would probably overide the pain.
in terms of style you might be right. but i am a fan of the dystopia and early to mid 1900's styles. however, as i previously stated, the game uses Unreal Engine 3. So the visuals will be very similar across the board for all UE3 games. The only difference will come in the form of texture, static meshes, animations and such that are done by different artists.
However, if you look at Gears of War, you will see a more realistic version of what Bioshock will look like than just the videos. But mind you i am also an Epic fanboy (Epic being the company that makes the Unreal Engine) so i partial to their projects. With that said videos for UT3 look very promising as well since Epic Games tends to use their Unreal Tournament titles as a display for what all their engines are capable of on a PC.
So Bioshock wont be the best looking game every. Though it definitely will be one of the more impressive stylistically.
Well, Developers have the opportunity to modify game engines as much as they need in order to acheive certain effects in particular games.
I mean Half Life 1 was just using the Quake engine, but far be it from anyone to tell.
So saying Unreal Engine 3 games will all look the same but with just a few different texture sets isnt very accurate. I admit that this early in the engines cycle, we wont see a myriad of improvements. But In Bioshock, check out the freaking water effects man.
you elaborated on the point for me... THANKS!!! i did mean early on in the life of the engine things will look similar. as for the water effects... meh. i have seen them and they do look absolutely amazing but i was more going toward the point of the thread for the realistic hands.
as for Quake 3 and Half Life 1... Quake 3 was/is great though i have never enjoyed the Half Life series. Also you can tell they are the same engine by looking at them. just gotta know what you are looking for![]()
Thiefeadly Shadows didn't use Unreal Engine 3. That has come after it was out. It used an earlier version and Havok physics system if I remember rightly.
Tbh plenty of games have used similar setups but it was mainly Ion Storms implematation of them that was poor. Still a solid game if you can look past the faults.
UE3 is very current actually. Only 2 released games that I recall running it recently, and those are Gears of War and Rainbow Six:Vegas.
Deadly Shadows and Deus Ex Invisible War both used engines developed at Ion Storm, which may or may not have been modified Unreal Engine 2 derivatives.
