Jack injected himself with the first plasmid; Atlas didn't tell him a thing. He walks up to it, looks at it, then jams it in his arm. Why would he do that, or DID Atlas tell you something?

It's the only way to get past the Securis bulkhead since the lever malfunctioned.
And when you highlight the plasmid it says "power up". Up is usually the way to go!
But yeah, I don't know why Atlas didn't say anything.
Obviously Jack is a degenerate drug user and when he sees a syringe the size of a CokeŽ can he automatically jabs it into his arm.
Damn junkies ruined Rapture.
(OK, we need a Futurama "Scruffy"-type splicer.....)

"That contraption there, doles out plasmids."
"Imagine if you could be smarter, stronger, healthier. What if you could even have amazing powers, light fires with your mind? That's what plasmids do for a man."
It might be an attempt to coerce you to do what you must. I don't recall having ever heard them in the game. Maybe they were cut out from the final version (there are quite a few audio files that are never used). Maybe they will only be played if your stubborn enough.
I feel that sometimes people look too much into this game simply because it incorporates some philosophy, some parts of the game happen simply because you need to do action a to get to point b.
I agree, 1 of the key features in the game is the plasmids. You aquiring Electro-Bolt in the 1st level was to get you fimiliar with how to use them and when to use them. Also Atlas tell you to "keep on movin'" so when you see the door that you need to go through has a short in it, and you find the power to shoot electricity from your hands, well then it's just an obvious choice isn't it?![]()
I think also if your going to look into it maybe he knew what they were subconsciously cause he lived in Rapture for no matter how short he might have seen them been used.
Oh Bingo! I wish I had a prize to give you. First and foremost Bioshock is a game. I mean, did you guys ask yourselves in Doom, "Why does he just start shooting at things the instant the door goes up?" No. You just run out and start shooting.
I have asked myself the same question and I answered it this way: It's a game and this was how they decided to get you your first plasmid. Yes, they could have had Atlas give you a long spiel about it, but the developers were smart enough to know that experienced gamers are experts at sniffing out the next objective and I guarantee you that 99% of people would already have found the syringe and jabbed it into themselves way before Atlas even caught his breath to start babbling away.
