@lil sister savior: I advice you to include information about your topic without spoiling the fun for others. Unsure titles may lead to users reading unwanted spoilers. If there are spoilers, you should mark them.

    See this as a warning.

    Hmm

You've made me interested in this.

Please explain this either through private message or what not.

I know I'll play it through but I REALLY do want to know why about this and I can't stop thinking about it, nor do I actually remember.

You know if you guys don't like the spoilers, don't click on the thread and read them on purpose just so you can complain. I don't really mind spoilers since they let me know when and where they show up.

The thread's title got changed by a Mod. Before it didn't say Spoiler, and we thought it was just a speculation thread.. We weren't really to know...

    *MINOR SPOILERS AHOY!*

After reading this I spoilt this for myself. I still don't know how everything pans out in the story, I just know something about Atlas and his relationship with Jack (your character). And I don't know the details of that, so there's still plenty of mystery left for me. And having played other "mysterious protaganist with no background" videogames, it's not a hugely shocking plot twist! I mean, did you really think that Jack was just a regular guy in the wrong place at the wrong time, or that Atlas was 100% trustworthy?

I'll tell you one thing that confuses me about the original post - Atlas never actually thanks you during the demo! I understand what the OP is getting at though.

you want to know the ending?

For those who want to know what I know about Jack and Atlas, which I learnt from following up the original post, I'll give you a taster - but this is all you should know:-

Jack is obviously connected with Rapture - see the chain tattoos on his wrists? Notice how he doesn't question anything Atlas says? Even though it's possible that Atlas is not being entirely truthful? Jack doesn't even know who Atlas really is! Three times during the demo Atlas asks Jack to do something - the first is when he tells him to take the radio from the bathysphere. Not the exact words he uses. Do you think Jack has any choice whether or not to follow these requests from Atlas? As a gamer, you have to follow Atlas' orders in order to progress in the game (the bathysphere door won't open unless you take the radio) - does the character of Jack have any more choice than you?

Correction to my previous post: NOTE the exact words he uses.

I think you should play the game and find out. You're being manipulated by Atlas. I don't know much more than that. If you want a complete spoiler just type "Bioshock spoiler" into Google!

I'll be in Arizona, starting college and what not for Game Design, I won't have the time to play B-Shock.

So I just wanted the spoiler for that little bit of info that made me curious.

If anything I'd rent this game because it doesn't have the replay value I require in a game but unfortunately that will be hard to do especially since even if I can somehow get to a video rental place at Arizona without a car, I wouldn't actually know if they'd even have it in for rental as it'd be rented out.

    You see my dilemma now.

I tried looking for full spoilers butwith no luck.

Atlas is really Fontaine, a gangster - I've only played the demo so haven't come across this character. He's hypnotised Jack and uses the word "kindly" as a trigger to get him to do his bidding - "kindly pick up the radio/wrench/put down your weapon". That's all I know - I don't know why he's done it, how he's done it or what connection he has to Andrew Ryan, or what happens at the end of the story. It's an interesting idea, because of course the player is in the same position as Jack - you have no choice but to follow Atlas' bidding if you want to progress in the game. It's a similar device to System Shock 2, where you're being manipulated by Dr Polito, and Planescape Torment, where your character has amnesia and you uncover his past life as you play to find out who is manipulating him.

    I see!

However at the same time a few things I now wonder about.

Why does he not say to "Kindly" find his wife and son?

That makes sense seeing as how an achievement is to escape Fontaines mind control, I wonder how.

Why would he say Kindly TWICE for the same thing, and he didn't tell you to kindly take the needle.

Finally I must wonder how you got out of Rapture if he mind controlled you.

You should probably put your post in spoiler tags. Too late now though... Anyway:-

Atlas says "kindly" to you every time he asks you to perform a specific action. Saving his wife and child, even going to a certain area is, I suppose, a fairly general request, so isn't something that comes under his mind-control remit. I'm guessing that getting free of his mind-control is something to do with not killing the Little Sisters, which he wants you to do. As for the first plasmid you inject, from what I have read, this is different in the final game. Maybe Atlas says "kindly inject the plasmid"? You should PM the original poster if you want to know more!

Kindly inject the plasmid as it will help you survive here, don't worry. You can trust me.

There's also the matter of the package Jack is holding on the plane. Looks like a present from his Mum and Dad - but the message reads "Kindly do not open until..." It must be from Atlas - could it be a bomb? Maybe it's a flashforward and the plane trip is taking place after the events of the game?

If it was a bomb it would kill him if he was the one who opened it.

However if it was a bomb and he set it up then somehow he'd have to have that memory erased.

"Kindly do not open until you see the Lighthouse."

That would make alot of sense...

He would take out the pistol then kill the pilot it would crash near the light house and he would go to it.

There's got to be a reason for Jack to survive the air crash beyond sheer luck. Maybe he already has a "survive air crashes" gene tonic installed? Maybe he wasn't on the plane that crashed? He may have been dumped in the water and made to think he was a survivor?

Well from what I've heard, he was sent up before the plane crashed.

But you have to wonder what the plane and letter were all about? A little hint to the player?

  36. #36
Was it a package or a letter? Or both? I forget. Too small to be a parachute I suppose...

Erm....he doesn't 'thank you kindly' in the demo twice.

He simply uses the word twice, but not in thanking you. It's a request.
