Totenkoff the "villain" from Sky Captain. He seems to have the same general philosophy.
Rejecting everything. Colossal ego. Building a separate isolated society into a utopia.

Agreed sir
Sky Captain: AtWoT was a weird ass movie lol.
Agreed though.
I'm lost.. I haven't seen it.
You should see it. It's a worthy rental. There's alot of Bioshock feel to it. Very art deco. Silly fun.
Here's the trailer

I enjoyed the trailer!
I for one am gonna give that a go![]()
that movie was awful
It seems Ryan didn't "reject everything".
He took what obviously worked, and applied that to what could be the greatest civilization possible. He wasn't bound by the weak, he wasn't bound by petty morals. He was a progressive person in my opinion. At least that's what I got from the demo
I am glad that a game company has finally made a decent game that revolves around something called a "story", and a good one at that.
I must say when I first walked through the door to see a giant banner displaying, "No Gods. No Leader. Just Man." I shivered, because of how close it was to my ideals. Not to mention the projector video that re-enforced the ideals (Kudos for that by the way).
Except that Bioshock is good.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law are the least charismatic lead actors I have ever seen. I'm assuming the director fed them horse tranqulisers before each scene.
And the bad guy is played by Laurence Olivier - the great actor who died 15 years before Sky Captain was made and who appeared in the film as some sort of reconstructed CGI from beyond the grave. Without giving his consent, obviously. Very tasteful.
Actually, I think Bioshock has a bit of a Jules Verne vibe to it. I'd love to see the next Bioshock game set in the Victorian era, with harpoon guns and a giant squid!
totally agreed!
"BioShock and the world of tomorrow...." well its more like the world of yesterday but the next one should be set in the same time period.
So you don't believe in charity or helping those less fortunate than youself? Sorry, I don't mean to flame you, but it seems like you haven't considered just what Ryan's objectivist philosophy implies!
I don't like religion or the state intruding into people's personal lives - but I pay my taxes because I know they will go towards paying for education, health care, social services etc.
Oh, and a chap I used to work with got irate when he was asked to donate to a charity helping third world countries - he said "Charity begins at home". I disagreed with that and told him that charity should begin where it is most needed. People in Britain (where I live) aren't starving or dying of easily treatable diseases.
When I was watching the IGN video review of Bioshock and the reviewer said that for Ryan the ends always justify the means, it reminded me of the scene in V for Vendetta, when disguised as an old man, he describes Creedy as a man "for whom the ends always justify the means."
Generally when a movie is 95% computer animated...it doesn't come out very well.
I didn't bother to watch it.
Anyone know how andrew ryan got so wealthy?
that film looks like it sucks alot that female actor sucks
He looks like Tom Hanks.....
Hanks should DEFINITELY play him in the movie!![]()
I may be aging myself - but I saw Ryan in the demo and immediately thought of Higgins from Magnum PI... yeah, I'm old![]()
i actually liked the movie, but i cannt remember the villain
