    MAFIA II Marketing !

Game marketing is one of the main tools to form a huge fan base for a game so that the video game players will always be on the line to read any info about a game or even see a screenshot . Well , I am talking here about the way 2K Games markets MAFIA 2 which it's really has a huge fan base all over the world let alone the non-limited number of websites that were opened from fans for MAFIA 2 but when I look at the news that writers put in ( N4G.com ) about MAFIA 2 , the number of viewers don't live up to the expectations let alone that the game didn't show itself one time in the ( Hottest Games ) List because its news in the website are careless by the readers . This puts a great game Like MAFIA in terms of hype like any casual game .

I don't know exactly what the reason behind this but I think the game didn't take its right from marketing . I am not convinced about the marketing of the game . Look at Rockstar Games and its way of marketing GTA IV whether on the Internet or in the streets , it did put a lot of posters in New york on the buildings , it released mystical videos on the internet that make the Players analyze the video pic by pic to extract any new info or features , it sent exclusives pics to websites that cover the game like ( GTA4.net , planetgrandtheftauto ) . I can't give all the details about GTA IV marketing but anyone of you who watched the huge hype of the game before it released , he will know what I am talking about .

Finally , are you convinced by the marketing of MAFIA 2 ?

    Vote .

Well marketing this time round is way better. i`ve been to many forums myself and people may not be discussing Mafia II too much but it surely is one of their most anticipated game.
But i agree, marketing must be bettered if 2k wants this to be a huge hit with the fans. A thing which, sadly ,the original Mafia lacked.

I`m sure E3 is a nice platform from where to market a game. When people actually get to see the game live, that`ll increase it`s popularity all around.

absolutely, compared to previous games (particularly Mafia 1 & H&D2) Mafia 2 is getting a lot of press a long way before release, lots of positive feedback here & on sites like Gametrailers hosting the vids.

If Mafia 1 would have been more popular, then 2K guys would have a much easier job selling Mafia 2. Yes, it's definetely an improvement compared to Mafia 1's marketing, but they should expand it. The volume of the game (more than 2 hours of cutscenes), and the time period where the story plays makes this game special, so it would deserve more attention. Anyway, there's a half year until release, and the current volume of the marketing isn't bad either. But it would definetely deserve more!

yea but they could do better because people still know nothing about mafia or mafia 2,maybe they could show some trailers on tv during commercial breaks, but maybe they will when close to release.

yes the Marketing is good but they could make more Posters in the city and on big skyscrappers also at stations. (like Sims3, GTA IV) but i donīt know if the money is there :P

Personally I think there isn't major hype because no gamer will get hyped for game that's to released in 2010, when instead there are ALOT of games coming out this year.

I think a few months before release Mafia II will have close to the same amount of hype that GTA IV got. Just watch...

I think as of right now there doing a pretty good job with marketing, and E3 will only help. but the game is set to be released in 2010. There are a lot of games now that people are paying more attention to, they just have to make sure that as the game is getting ready to be released, They market the c**p out of this game, because MAFIA II still isn't a very well known game.... well at least to a lot of people I game with in other games.
But I think everything will be fine 2K just has to keep up the good work. I'm sure MAFIA II will be a force to be reckoned with when I finally hits the shelves.

    i pretty much agree here!

the main thing though is once the game is around it's release date that it gets ALOT of commercial advertisements! ... i think that will be key to it being a success instead of a great game but not many people seem to know about it like Mafia 1.

They definitely need to advertise a lot more and be more aggresive especially since they are aiming for the console market too.The pc community knows about mafia 2 and are hyped for it cause they have played the 1st while the console community either dont know about it or have played the awful console version.
Hell on gametrailers Mafia 2 wasnt even on the list of the top 50 most anticipated games of E3!Not to mention that i rarely(if ever)see a thread about mafia 2,in which most people that answer know of the first thus why they are hyped for it while the rest ignore it.
The last trailer though left quite an impact it seems and more people got interest in it so more like it will certainly help.
One thing is certain. When the reviews start coming out and most of them(if not all )are very high then the game will certainly draw attention. It's up to 2k to take advantage of this situation.
Finally they should choose the release date carefully.A date with less games close to release is perfect for mafia 2.

Overall they should advertise more.I dont want the game to fail to meet the sales expectation cause it deserves to be successful and i dont want all those years of dev time and delays go to waste.

The best thing they could do now I make use of word-of-mouth. Why? It's FREE. Duh! So, I'm sure like myself, all you forum members are getting the word out how great this game is going to be...right? If not, you better start NOW!

This is one thing 2KC could take away from Rockstar Games' marketing playbook. The huge billboard outside of E3 in L.A. is a terrific example of this. I'd like to see 2KC implement a similar strategy. They could spend a minimal amount of $$$ right now, like Rockstar did early on with GTA IV, and get people talking. There's no need for high dollar marketing plans right now, like TV, radio, etc.

The new website is great, the billboard is great, and E3 presence is great. We need more of this to continue through the end of the year. Just little bits here and there to keep people talking and taking full advantage of FREE word-of-mouth.

Damn, I think 2KC should hire me.
