Good info on big daddy style diving suits

I am new here but found this forum informative. While looking things up I came across this site http://www.divingheritage.com with interesting articles on the history and evolution of Bioshocks Big Daddy type diving suits. Here is one that looks alot like a bouncer http://www.divingheritage.com/armored2.htm . I just started playing Bioshock a month ago so I luckily won't have quite as long a wait as alot of you for the sequel, but months still seem like awhile to satisfy my Rapture cravings .

This info might have been posted before but I couldn't find it searching the threads.

I'm not surprised there are similarities--2K obviously did a lot of research when designing these suits. That's what made the BD's so neat. They represented what might be possible, with a tiny stretch of the imagination. That is so much cooler than, say, an 8-limbed half-spider, half-man horror or something similar. LOL

I know when I think of BD's, I think back to when I was a kid. We used to go to Walt Disney World a lot, and EPCOT had a pavilion called The Living Seas. The queue took you back and forth in a dimly-lit area that had all sorts of life-size ancient diving suits. Everything from leather hoods filled with air to full-on Big-Daddy-style suits. Very creepy and cool.

Glad I could contribute, me and my kids got sucked into the whole story and premise, for all the reasons others have posted about. I loved how they wove Ayn Rands philosophical ideals into the story so elegantly. Was loosly familiar with her work beforehand. There is so much symbolism in the game. Its right up there with Fallout 3 as our household favorites (Its funny but those two universes could coexist, it would be an interesting mashup).

After reading how they plan to do the multiplayer as a prequel its practically 2 games in one and hopefully it will be a little more open ended as far as gameplay after its over.

As far as the diving suits I was always fascinated with them myself as a kid and all my kids do now is draw them and little sisters all over everything (2 girls 2 boys ages 11, 8, 6, 4). They totally dug 2K's giant statues of their killer combo and are already begging me to do costumes for Halloween based on the game. Hard thing though is trying to explain objectivism to young minds.

That's really cool that there is a helmet similar to a bouncer's. I really wondered where they got the inspiration for that one since it seemed really random.

That's a really cool find!. I too had no idea that there was something behind that idea. Although, i could tell they were pretty old lookin' suits.
