Michael Mann probably stands out as my most favourite filmmaker, I like all of his films, and the series he has produced. I've recently been watching Crime Story re-runs, which stars the ever watchable Dennis Farina and features one of the best mafia villains in Ray Luca (Anthony Denison); compulsive viewing before it unfortunately jumped the shark near the end of the first series.

Anyway, a quick and not particularly thought out list:

    Manhunter
    The Last of the Mohicans
    The Big Lebowski
    Raising Arizona
    The Hitcher
    The Machinist
    American Psycho
    The Matrix
    Fifth Element
    The Lost Boys
    Aliens
    Memento
    The Thin Red Line

Additionally, all those 80's teen movies by John Hughes, I basically grew up on those.

    The Pianist
    Serenity
    Catch Me if You Can

Yup Roger Corman classic starring David Carradine and sylvester stalone. Was the inspiration for both Mad Max and Carmageddon

Basically there's a cross country race in which you score points for hitting pedestrians (and probably also for finishing first). Most points wins.

The whole thing is televised as a sort of gameshow (victims families can win prizes) like The Running Man.

also looking at my old VHS collection is Dr. Strangelove which was a stroke of pure genius, along with the (can it even be called a documentary) The Atomic Cafe.

That's a movie that I definitely want to see, but had bad luck doing so. Once I started watching it at a party, but playing a Wii overrode it.

Then I borrowed a friends copy, and the f'in video skipped and would not continue playing past the part where Private Pyle is losing it on the toilet with his rifle.

It's good to re-discover stuff as an adult— I think I'm going to pick up a copy.
A great movie, really creepy at the end too (gotta love Micky). Also, I happened upon Jacob's Ladder on a recommendation from someone that told me it was inspiration for Silent Hill. Now it's in my top ten with a great performance by Tim Robbins.

I'll search out some Jacob's Ladder clips.
    Here's some:

OI! This is considered the best moment in the film by most, but it has some disturbing images and is a big spoiler for the film. WATCH at your risk.

Clue (Has two of the best 'that guy can play anyone' comedic actors - Tim Curry and Michael McKean)

on the McKean note "This Is Spinal Tap" is great

not a movie, but there's gotta be some Red Dwarf fans on these forums too right?

    I love the Norweb bit.

"He's dead. They're all dead. Everybody. Is. Dead. Dave."

"See this hand? It is mine. See these shiny things? They are mine."

...and to think I prolly never woulda found out about it if PBS hadn't decided to air it over here. Although they gave it (literally) a random time slot, so we'd be like "Holy Sh*t" Red Dwarf is on!

Growing up in the granite city, it was probably the most thought about show we hankered for all those adolescent and teenage years. The mixture of hilarity with space travel, and they really did manage a lot with the budget, was what people like me needed (girl geek).

I never did catch the 9th season, as my family moved over to BC before it aired. Over here the stupid SPACE IMAGINATION STATION, a subsidiary of the Sci-Fi network for Canada, has not picked up Red Dwarf, nor Babylon 5 for that matter. BABYLON FREAKIN 5!!! WTF

Just saw Disturbia along with Shooter recently at the theatre. The former was an OK current-gen take on Rear Window, though not as good it had the intensity at points.

Shooter was a jumbled mess of an action film. Had the 'been there, done that' feel to it, and the last 30 minutes had the characters jumping to about 10 new places. I was thinking to myself that I'd rather be at home playing STALKER than watching it, as the Ukranian game has better gunplay than the movie did.

Glad somebody else could see that Disturbia was a ☺☺☺☺ty remake. I'll just watch the original (tho the remake with Christopher Reeves was really good too).

Except that Rear Window was boring when compared to say...Vertigo or North by Northwest.
