Thread: BioShock chat rooms - Good place to slow down and chat live!

    Exclamation BioShock irc chat

There's an irc channel up for those of you that want to talk anything BioShock (and anything else, really ).

We have two IRC nets that we are on: irc.globalgamers.net #bioshock and irc.starchat.net #bioshock. Below I have included a java chat to both networks!

GGC: http://www.globalgamers.net/?p=webchat - Type in user than, connect than type in /join #bioshock

SC: http://www.starchat.net/chat/applet.php?chan=bioShock - Find the nickname field and fill that in than click connect is all you have to do.

For users with an IRC client such as mIRC, xChat and so on, you can connect to GG and SC with:

    GGC: /server irc.globalgamers.net then /join #BioShock
    SC: /server irc.starchat.net then /join #bioshock

It's just a kind of chat, you join a server and then a room (or channel) on that server, and chat with others in the room. Check out the login on the Starchat page, and join the channel #bioshock, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out I think.

I've been in there for a while, it's absolutely dead despite having a number of users idling all the time.

    k, vrap.

Also, irc isn't just "a kind" of chat, it's like the original (popular) chat from way back in the day. I remember using it over a decade ago.

Good idea! When are you guys there usually?

    Exclamation

By the way guys, there's been a dev sighting so you might want to idle in the channel more Josh Downer (jjd on the forums) dropped in an hour ago and stayed for quite a bit. I was the only active person in the channel (had to drag some people from the sister channels so that it didn't feel too lonely). We had a great chat, so thanks for dropping in Josh, do come again, and please pass on the word to those your colleagues who are apt to do a bit of chatting on their downtime .

I'm there 24/7 but I'm not always at the computer, and am especially busy these days with some exams to get through.

    Question

Are you using the site's browser chat client, or your own? Did you check out the help page?

Seeing how Bioshock is getting close to release now, I was wondering if there was going to be an official chat with the developers in the near future? That would be very nice, and I'm sure it would get quite a bit of attention.

    Cool

but I'd rather not go out of my way just to chat. Of coarse, I'll probably do it anyway.

The IRC network I'm on is going to do an interview with Elizabeth in July where people who submit the best questions can win a Limited Edition copy of BioShock, and we're planning a release party for BioShock in August. I can post more details about that as the time approaches, but if you guys would like to know the info for that network now, I can post it here if no one has any objections.

I'm part of staff there, too, so if anyone has IRC-related questions (even if it doesn't relate to that specific network), I'd be happy to help.

I don't think anyone would have a problem with you posting the info here, please do. When exactly is the interview scheduled for?

The date is July 18th, and an exact time is yet to be established, but will most likely be in the evening (EST time). I shall update as full confirmation is received.

The location for this event is on irc.globalgamerscenter.net , in #BioShock. All are welcome who want to participate.

Will anyone from Irrational be there? I think a lot of people would like them to be in such an official chat. It's always a plus in the eyes of the community when they have devs come to a chat like that to answer questions.
On this one fan site we have the developers of the Serious Sam franchise come to workshops for Serious Editor 2, to help out people who are mapping/modding. It's been going on for over a year I think, and it's great. It not only gives people the chance to get help with their work from people who made the editor, it also gives us a chance to ask questions that are not related to the editor itself, but rather about the gaming industry, programming, various 3D modeling programs, future of gaming, new technologies etc. And it is this that I think a lot of people would
be interested in talking with them, especially if they aspire to be developers themselves.

P.S. Personally, I'd like to see Alexx Kay and Ken Levine there. What do the others think, who would you like to come?

I've also posted on the TTLG forums, where I understand some of the developers congregate (for want of a better word). Naturally, I can't force developers to come to this event, but I have done everything within my power to let them know about it, and I am in as much hope as you that they come and check it out.

Interview with 2K Elizabeth (with prizes!)

Ok, I'm happy to announce that the date has been finalized, and this event is now well and truly going to happen, here's the details:

The Global Gamers Center IRC network will be hosting an interview with 2K Elizabeth on Wednesday, July 18th, at 7:30 PM Eastern (12:30 AM July 19th for those of us in England). Elizabeth will be joining us to speak about women in the gaming industry and her role in developing the BioShock community.

We are also running a contest to give away five Limited Edition copies of BioShock. You can submit questions to be considered for the interview, and Elizabeth will answer five questions submitted by the public. The people who submitted those questions will get the prizes.

To keep everything anonymous until the questions have been selected, please either send your questions to me in private message here on the forum, or join us in #BioShock on irc.globalgamerscenter.net and type /msg QuestionServ Your question here. You can also hang out in #BioShock to chat with other fans or watch the interview on July 18th.

Of course, we owe a HUGE thanks to Elizabeth for agreeing to do this event! We hope everyone has fun.

If you have any questions about the event or IRC, feel free to ask!

Would prefer it if anyone interested came to the network, which will keep everything in one place, and will stop confusion between people and/or their questions.

I'm on the Global Gamers IRC BioShock channel. By the way, they have irc.gg-center.net as a shorter name to type than that long one.

I went to that FlashChat thing above, and just a bunch of talk about porn, lots of trolling also... not very interesting to me by far. >_>
