I studied writing briefly, and I won quite a few literary awards in high school and college. I'm no expert, but the passages that my girlfriend had me read were very clunky.
As I said before, my girlfriend
is more of an expert as she is paid to edit articles, tech manuals, novels, and resumes (to name a few examples). She has studied writing for years and thinks the writing is clunky.
And, as others have noted, celebrated professional authors have called it "trash". Whereas I have not seen a single well-known author step forward and call it "good" writing. Popular, yes. But good? No.
Not everything has to be Shakespeare. That's not the point. There's no shame in enjoying Twilight, but if you think it's good prose, then you don't know prose.
