Forum Reminder: PLEASE DON'T REPLY TO SPAM THREADS

If you see a spambot, please don't reply to it. Replies require extra effort to clean, and clearing the original spam is already a full-time job.

Instead of replying, please use the "report post" button to notify the moderators.

Also, spambots tend to shotgun duplicate threads all over the place. If you report one thread by a particular spambot, there is no need to report other threads by the same 'bot--we will destroy every thread in that spambot's profile.

    Your cooperation is much appreciated.

On another forum we have an efficient way of dealing with spam. The user who reports the post makes a reply with the text "Post reported". This means you only get 1 report per thread in your mod forum.

Also, there's a site called www.stopforumspam.com, which has lists of these spammers. As you'll see if you run a Google search for spammers, lots of them create accounts with the same nick, which makes it easier to hunt them down.

stopforumspam is a great site although not full proof about 35% of the spammers don't even have a record there. We do have an inline script that allows us to check to see if the ip address of the spammer is on record with stopforumspam.com, Also I report all spammers to the site.

When someone "reports" a post we get an email that is pretty specific as to who what where and why. It is quick and effecient and works perfectly.

Interestingly enough, we normally only get one report per spam post. It is very rare to get 2 or 3. So there is no need to add a reply to the spam thread saying you reported it.

And as I mentioned up above, replies create more work for us. When we grab all the spam posts, replies (such as yours) are often left behind. So we have to go back again and clean the same thread twice.

So we thank you for reporting the spam, but that's all you need to do. No replies to the spambots, please.
