    barbarians

out of the three different barbarians, i seem to find that i lose to norte chico's (the blowgun ones) whenever its a loss (which is very very rare). and i've never lost to grey wolf's (ones with the spiked clubs). has anyone else noticed anything else like this?

Yeah, blowgun guys are definitely the strongest in my experience too. The others seem evenly weaker...

im annoyed that the barbs dont get stronger throught the game. facing a barb hut with 0.5 defence with a tank or arty army of 100+ attack is fun at first, but gets dull after a while :P

    What?

I have never lost to a barbarian. I cant believe anyone ever has (not counting bugs or glitches). You must have had a bad unit or bad luck?

No, it's the law of averages. Unless you've got overrun (7 to 1 or 3 to 1 for Zulu), you'll lose to the 0.5 barbarians once in a while. I have even lost a 2 attack horse once.

Losing to barbarians is a badge of honor! It means you've played a lot (or something).

The blow-dart barbs are all in your head. None of them are stronger than the others, but the blow-dart ones seem to spawn faster. But I've lost to all of them.

I will say that they get stronger throughout the game, but their defense doesn't go up. If they are left to sit for a long time, and you attack them with a lowly warrior or archer, you have a higher chance of losing to them.
Archers lose a lot to barbs later on the game.

I don't think I've ever lost to a barb in the first 20 turns when I've attacked with a full strength unit.

I have a few times. First warrior goes out, finds a barb, attacks, loses, probably on like turn 5. It can happen. There was a GotW seed a few weeks ago where you could lose to a barb early. I should've publicized it then so people wouldn't think I'm just spinning yarns here.

    Cool

I find that the spear dudes kill me more. dunno why. But from Norte Chico, I get better stuff, like fifty gold, settlers, galleys, and horsemen.

I've never had this happen with a warrior. with archers it happens to me sometimes.

but the worst barbs are the ones that have three barbs in the village and they are on a hill. 4 barbs is worse actually, because they will attack you twice with .75 attack, which will usually kill any non-vet warrior.

I think this statement is absolutely true. I found a barb hut on an island 20-30 turns in. Attacked with a vet warrior and got obliterated. Didn't even hurt the barbarians. They were the ones with the hammers by the way

Gee, I didn't think that they could have that many in one village.

That Mongol advantage I think is a piece of **** (barbs join them) b/c most barb huts are surrounded by crappy stuff and they are on top of the useful resources we all just love.

Barb villages grow in population if left alone. Although I have not seen 1 over 4 pop. Once they get that high in pop they tend to wander out and attack you if you are standing next to them.

if left to 4 pop, they'll definitely start wandering if anything gets within 4 tiles of it.

Could just be random luck or sample size but I tend to find that certain civ's warriors seem to do better vs Barbs then other Civs.
The English in particular seem to fare very well vs. Barbs, rarely ever losing more than one single fighter in battle.
The French on the other hand usually lose 2 fighters every battle thus taking a lot longer to take out barb huts.
I also usually have good luck with American Warriors vs. Barbs.

I hate how some of the battles flip because I lost two warriors and they took my city out. I only had one tree there so not much production and they eleminated me I felt like ****.

I think it's random luck there.

I have seen some warriors win out right or lose 1 point when going through 2-3 barb huts with just that unit.

I've also seen others that constantly lose 2 points each and every time they fight a barb.

both happen in the same games... there's always one that seems like it's a better idea to sell it than keep it going. maybe they were given the imaginary clubs...
