    Andrew Ryan = Ayn Rand

The similarities are uncanny. A former Soviet citizen and so on. The opening intro movie seems right on with the core principles of Objectivism. Are there other references throughout the game?

I'm pretty sure that was Ken Levine's intention. Since he has mentioned again and again that this game is based off of "Atlas Shrugged" (Atlas being the name of another character in Bioshock) and other Ayn Rand novels.

I was looking around at all the write-ups for the game and never found an official acknowledgement of that, can you post a link? It does make me want to search around the city for other references.

I don't think he ever mentioned it somewhere in writing, but I know for a fact Ken purposely made Andrew Ryan's name an anagram of Ayn Rand. Check the older podcasts...

Right on, plus, the fact that it was the sign of the times during the period of WW1 - WW2, art deco, etc. when you look at writers such as, Huxley, Ayn Rand, George Orwell, etc.

Huxley released Brave New World that somewhat defined that time period i.e. what price do you pay for an Utopia society.

But weren't Huxley's and Orwell's visions of a much more "Big Government" future, where Rand's utopia was actually called 'Atlantis' (if I remember correctly). "No King, No God, Only Man" was the motto to move away from such futures.
